TSW3 on PS5. Hi, please forgive my ignorance if this is an easy thing to do but I can’t figure it out. Is there a way on PS5 when using the outside camera view to stand still? The camera is ALWAYS moving when I’m using this view. I can kind of slow it down with the joystick but not stop it. Thanks folks.
If you have a USB keyboard, you can connect that to the PS5 and then use number 8 to access free camera. You can then freely control the camera (use shift and arrow key or controller stick to move faster) and also the camera stays where you position it (I use this method for getting screenshots or doing railfan views).
You don't have to use a keyboard, but it is difficult to make much use of the free camera whilst the train is moving without one. On a PS5 controller you can either go to settings and set the 'immersion camera switch' option to free cam, so that by default when you click R3 for the external view it goes straight to free cam. Or you can leave that alone and instead when you switch to the external camera view, hold down the R3 stick and cycle through the available external views with the right button on the d-pad and second along from the fixed external camera is the free cam. However, as you cannot speed up the movement of the free cam when using a controller alone, using it whilst the train is going any faster than 30mph means the train will be heading off into the distance the moment you switch to the camera and you won't be able to catch up with it. You can only really make use of it if you use it whilst the train is stopped, get far enough ahead and then stop to watch the train go by before it catches up with you. With a keyboard you can press shift whilst moving the camera and it will increase the speed so it is easier to catch up, get ahead of the train, and see the train from a standing still perspective. But even then, once the train is going faster than 80 or 90mph even that is too slow to keep up.
No. There are several exterior cameras. The free camera is the only one independent of the train you are driving. The others are "tethered" to the train, i.e. they move along with the train. So, if you don't move one of these, they stay still relative the train. You can still move their position in relation to the train, but you can't go very far. Very useful for actually doing changes to the train: you can open doors and windows, uncouple cars, lower or raise the BR363 coupler, even change signals (although this is difficult if the train is moving fast).
