I found my settings had a affect. Backdated Train sim (Xavier?) posted settings on the ATS Facebook group that I copied and made my FPS better. The major change was turning off the first setting (SSAO I think).
The thing I've noticed the most after using RWE2 for a while, is the reflections are just fantastic. Water, glass, and in particular, the different metallic reflections. RWE2 doesn't actually modify the textures, but it seems to accentuate the inherent differences that are already there between flat, moderately shiny, and very shiny metals. It really brings out the metallic differences in TSC, IMO. I also enjoy the color and sound enhancements, but the reflections in RWE2 are the cat's whiskers!
Yeah it edits the shader values that's all, you can achieve similar with Re-shade but for the out of the box enhancement (plus a few personal tweaks) it can look really good. I would love something like qUINTS SSR re-shade settings that give you wet look platforms but tweaked to a) only show on platforms, and b) only show when it's raining, that'd be something.. Here's an example of qUINTS SSR shader in Re-Shade
And the thing about RWE2, and one of the reasons I wrote the review, is that it is so easy to use. I'm not really very good at using Reshade. It is a very powerful tool, and can yield great results, but I tend to get lost in it, and can never get the colors right. I tried someone's presets that they very kindly offered as a download on this forum just recently. But with my video card and monitor, the greens were lime in color. And it wasn't that the presets were wrong...the person who shared his presets was posting BEAUTIFUL screen shots. It was just that they didn't work with my monitor and video card. And when I tried to darken the greens, I started screwing up the other colors. RGB is simple in concept, but as a practical matter, it can become a difficult task trying to get things looking right. But I found RWE2 very easy to use, as for my setup, the shader presets were pretty much spot on. I reduced the overall color saturation by 5% and made some other small tweaks, but overall RWE2 was plug and play for me. You can dive into the details in RWE2 if you are so inclined, but for folks whose eyes glaze over with Reshade, RWE2 is a great alternative.
I know I’m very late to this particular party, but what sort of settings on that shader would be a good starting point? I’m really happy with how I have the game looking with RWEPro, except for the vibrant greens of a lot of the trees & foliage. If it were possible to alter that and that alone that would be amazing. Cheers.
I have had RWE 2 since it launched. I now have the same problem as you. Have reinstalled three times. There have been no changes except for different screens - one at 1080p and one at 4k. I also posted a support ticket but got no reply. Did you finally find a solution ?
Sadly no. The author said he was unable to replicate or fix it and refunded me while generously allowing me to keep my licence. Its very frustrating as I would love to use these features. I told him I would buy it again if he fixed this. Perhaps he might find a solution if more users suffer this issue. I think it is display/screen related. I run a 2560x1440 monitor and it did work in 1920x1080 windowed mode but I didn't want to run in less than full screen.
I have got mine working again by yet more constant fiddling. But I do not know how. I am running on a 43 inch 3840 x 2160 TV that I am using as a monitor that I was given. I am so relieved to have RWE 2 working again. It makes such a difference ! Looks and sounds wonderful and the gauges are almost life size ! If I had to choose between 1920 x 1080 with it working and 4k and it not working I would choose the former. Hope you get yours working sometime soon.
I thought I had lost it again but random right and left mouse clicking on the sky and going from internal to external view brought it back. The manual I think does allude to the ppossible need to do the clicking.
Well... This is surprising. Your post prompted me to try RWE2 again and it worked. Brilliant! I can only think of three changes that may have brought this about - a Windows Update, an update to RWE2 because of the AP weather pack 2 or excluding RWE2 from checking by Windows Defender. I'm going back to the developer to pay for it again. Thanks for the tip. I had to do that a couple of times to get the start scenario screen to appear. I hadn't seen anything about that in the manual. Does anyone know if you can turn off the yellow messages - Doors Open Right/AWS/DVD that are appearing now. I couldn't find any setting for this.
