Recreating the industrial areas of my home town as it was in the 1960s. I've been working on this project for a long time but I have been making good progress lately, in between other projects. It will be payware, but I intend to include a number of locomotive types constructed here, including the New South Wales 46 Class shown here. Would that have been built at Metropolitan-Vickers? IIRC 18100, one of the GWR gas-turbine loco's, went there to be to be rebuilt as an 25KV electric for testing on the WCML.
Yes, they were built at Bowesfield Works, a joint venture between Metropolitan Vickers and Beyer-Peacock . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowesfield_Works
Any updates mate? I had no idea about this thread. Until it was linked to me on my thread Australian Rolling Stock | Dovetail Games Forums
As I'm now retired, I have made more progress recently, detailing the Metrovick works, and building a South African 5E1 class and a Coles rail crane. I'm aiming for the route to be finished by the end of 2023. The main outstanding task is signalling the route. Then I have to think of scenario ideas.
So hopefully we'll see some more Aussie locos then. The Western Australian Government Railways had their X/XA/XB class diesels built there. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WAGR_X_class
I intend to make one of those too, sharing the simulation and sounds with the Class 28 Co-Bo to save time. In this picture, you can see the multiple gauge tracks, the narrowest being metre gauge.
The route looks phenomenal. I pale to think about the number of custom assets you had to make. It has a very consistent visual atmosphere which is very important when routebuilding. I look forward to seeing more of it!
