That makes so much sense, i get it now. Could the portal junctions just be added as some sort of gameplay update or does it require a whole new game?
Nothing to do with map tiles or how those work. More a case of the entire timetable system would need rebuilding. How it works, how the game references it, how AP points score it, how the medal system works... (TSW4)
oh wow, fair enough, as of now we can’t really do much but speculate. But yeah an ECML or GEML south would be great in TSW
My stock answer to any and all suggestions for an ECML section. It *has* to have a Deltic, backed up by a Paxman engined HST. That's the ECML those of my generation associate with, maybe the 91's and Mark 4's a bit (usually kicking cuckoos out of your reserved seats) but certainly no more modern than that.
i doubt they’ll make a route of that popularity and length backdated as the majority of their target audience prefers modern routes which has been proved in surveys, what would make more sense is setting it in the current era with appropriate stock, then a deltic/other backdated stock pack to run on the route, pleasing both audiences
The basic roadblock to making a modern-day ECML (just like a modernized GWML) is apparently a licensing problem with the 800-series. AIUI, Hitachi regards the very look of the train as a trademark- and have not been willing to license it.
i don’t believe it because the whole A train family is trademarked and we got the 395, and the 800 is in TSC with an almost identical model to the real thing
However, apparently a license for TSC does not extend to TSW: DTG would have to do it all over again.
In that case I will take my Deltic, please, with 47's on the semi fast services, Cravens DMU's on the locals...
yes that is true, but my point is that hitachi have allowed other models that are trademarked and even patented it such as the 385 and 395, which is hitachi designed an 800 shouldn’t be hard to do at all
The only issue with that, is that HSTs are utterly boring as whereas Deltics are 2-stroke-engined beasts. Sorry, but one cannot escape the facts of life. Don’t get me started on the modern plastic EMUs that pass for ECML power these days. It’s good to be old hehe.
Before I start I thought I should just say that I am not ill! In real life railway terms I love the 80xs and these days genuinely rather having them than the 225s as they're interior is much nicer, they will do what you want them to do and don't take a year to do it, they have immensely improved the service on the ECML since introduction and there are many more reasons that I won't bore you with. However as an enthusiast and from a sentimental point of view I would be utterly disappointed if an ECML route in TSW doesn't have a Deltic and paxman HST because for me these are the trains which I associate most with the ECML and I spent my whole childhood listening to to beautiful sound of the Deltics. Even though I criticised the 225s I still adore them from this point of view as I have had an absolute blast with them and when they go will miss the distinctive sound they make when passing at high speed and would love to be able to hear it in TSW. Doing the ECML with it's legends makes much more sense to me as we will be able to experience the 80xs for another 20-30 years (or more) in the real world but the HSTs, Deltics and soon the 91s are things of the past that only have a finite amount of time left before being forgot about. Also if an ECML route is done modern I will literally be able to do it with my eyes shut and it wouldn't, like other routes, be a new challenge or experience. I do fear however with the 700 DTG are gearing up to make ECML south (the most boring part) in the modern era soon, so all of our cries will be pointless.
I rode the ECML between Kings Cross and Cambridge quite a bit, and it has to be the dullest stretch of track in Britain.
Tell me about it, I have to cover the stretch from Kings X to Peterborough more than once a day and I genuinely look forward to getting to Peterborough (which is shows how bad it is) as I know it gets nicer after there.
i’d take a deltic if it was on the York - Newcastle because the modern day route is probably the most dullest part of the ECML IMO
i commute on the Great Northerns everyday as to work and the southern section isn’t bad at all, especially south of welwyn, one of the best stretches of the ECML IMO. Best part of the east coast is between Grantham and Peterborough and up north between morpeth and dunbar, one of the prettiest railways in the world even with the wires
York to Newcastle isn't a dull section as you have some very scenic parts as you get towards Newcastle and even closer to York the scenery is rather pleasing (not that I concentrate on it too much). That's strange as I too travel over it every working day and the only positive I can find is that I get paid for doing it! Totally agree, this is the best part of the whole country as the Lincolnshire landscape is wonderful and some brilliant people live along this section!
yep, i’m not really fond of the York - Newcastle part it’s just bland to me personally IRL and on TS, but the newcastle to edinburgh is so beautiful especially around alnmouth
Your company pays for your travel to London (I presume that’s where you’re office is)! I would travel along a dull desert to get to work if the company I worked for paid for it! Do they expect you to work whilst you’re travelling. I suppose you are looking forward to the 700 if it’s the train you use everyday as I know I am!!!
This sounds like a half decent off topic discussion. What is the most boring section of railway in britain... Would have to come up with some parameters but could be interesting (or boring of course)
realistically the ecml south offers the most gameplay so it would be the best in terms of lasting longest in general and i feel it would sell a lot more than a further north section
Was better with the 153's running it. Plain boring now, the 139's are LOVE too. *My opinion of course*
Never been on one, so wouldn't know Go on networkers, javelins and electrostars all the time so they're "plain boring" I guess Not sure what would be so special about a 153 to enliven an entire journey tbf
It was even better in the 80's with the class 121 and 122's, although of course three of them came a cropper on the town branch. I remember the two years running when they went through the wall into the bus station (well almost). The 153's weren't really suitable for it really, in term time it would take ages to load at each end of the line and I imagine they were expensive to run for such a short stretch of line. The 139's are efficient I am sure but the ride is poor, one of the two units in particular seems to shimmer along the newly laid track, they crashed and banged over the old jointed track. Some of the locals call them the mobile chicken sheds.
Speeding up a line like the WCML is more fun though, as you're passing through junction, stations, seeing other types of train, and the less densely populated part is more scenic. The most boring for me would be a single track branch with just the one service, no freight, no remarkable scenery (rural or urban). The St. Albans Abbey branch perhaps, although even that has Watford Junction.
Tunnel, Angerstein Wharf Branch goes off to the left, Greenwich junction from left, Charlton, Woolwich Dockyard, loads of deep brick lined cuttings and mini tunnels then one long tunnel into WA... Some interest there...
What about Ebbsfleet to Ashford? The only good things about it are that you're going quickly, but there's only two types of trains and the occasional freight (All class 92), and the only two real "highlights" scenery wise are the Medway Bridge and bluebell hill tunnel. For the rest of the time you're going through the kent countryside (all rolling green fields, no major landmarks or variation) and for a lot of it you're either in a cutting (so can't see anything) or next to a big road (A2, M2, M20) none of which are particularly great either
I think there’s something intrinsically interesting about any railway running along side roads - even more so when it’s 140mph running. For me, boring is running an ICE 1 for an hour under LZB, acknowledging SiFA every 30 seconds whilst doing tunnel bridge, tunnel bridge, tunnel bridge over and over. I don’t think anyone is ever going to agree on ‘boring’, things are fun for more than just their objective use.
Yeah, the speed on HS1 is quite exhilarating, because there's so much around you, because it's not quite as long as some HSLs
A very scenic HSL is the Paris - Milan line, extremely beautiful, went on with my girlfriend last summer
Goes to show what I know. Didn't even know Cambs HAD fens... Then again the only time I go anywhere near there is when I miss the M1 coming off the M6 and the A14 is a bit better than it was
