Been away for about 2 years ...... More or lessthen gave up on TWS2 because of bugs.
Seemingly not fixed but for a few?

    1) It seems not funny spending 30m on a long 'trip', and then getting stuck. TSW3 the same thing?

    2) I bought extra stuff like a lot of locs and routes for TSW2. It seems you have to buy the same ones again?

    example:
    loc tsw2.jpg

.3) And is Steam still a must on a windows PC, or can you order a standalone windows version ?

There's a SAVE feature now: you can save your progress, and resume the trip in case something goes wrong. The feature is not perfect, but it works in most cases.

Most TSW2 content can be played in TSW3, as long as you play on the same platform. See more below.

There's TSW3 in XBox store, and also in the Epic store. No standalone version.
The DLC only works within the same platform. So, if you purchased a lot of DLCs on Steam, you're better off buying TSW3 on Steam, so you can play that content.

There is no standalone version. All versions come from some store similar to Steam (Epic Store and Microsoft store).
Of the three, I still recommend Steam.

The save feature isn't reliable though. It can break and not work properly

Once you buy a tsw compatible dlc, it is available for both tsw2 and tsw3. So no need to purchase again.

Just get the Standard Edition. Could go for the Deluxe Edition if you want Spirit of Steam.

The regional editions aren't worth it, IMO. 2 routes less but only slightly cheaper than Standard Edition.

What are you looking for? There's mostly uk, German, us content, there's freight, passenger. Do you want older or newer era routes, etc.

Regardless, here are my recommendations per region.

Deluxe edition is probably what you want to pick up. You get 4 routes for cheap and there's a sale on steam right now ending soon so might want to do that. There's also mods if you're interested.
    • Sherman Hill: realistic braking physics and mechanics. There isn't much to look at visual wise but if you're looking for well implemented braking, it's for you. You also get longer consists up to 100 freight cars. You will have to go slow and learn how to master the brakes. There's videos on YouTube you can watch to learn.
    • Cjp: comes with standard or deluxe edition.
    • Oakville: fast freight
    • Sand patch: lots of variety
    • Clinchfield: if you like the f7, then it's a good route. You get services to multiple branch lines divided into multiple parts. The scenery is good but it is very monotonous.
    • Peninsula corridor: f40 is good to drive, manually lapped so a bit challenging. Gp38 has unique freight services. Mp36 is great dlc (subs in), mp15 adds in unique services so another great dlc
    • Boston Providence: acs64 for high speed, f40 with cab car for stopping runs on mainline and stoughton branch. It's also getting an acela soon, signaling overhaul, lighting update work volumetric clouds.
    • Harlem line: m7a and m3a are great. There's some pathing issues related to dispatcher so trains can get stuck forever but it's still a fun route. It may seem short but takes around an hour for a single run. There's also shorter runs to yankees stadium station.
    • Bakerloo: highly recommend, it got a timetable update with over 600 services so it's really busy.
    • Brighton mainline: highly recommend, you get over 1000 playable services. At least 1400 if you have all layers (sehs, gwe, ecw, 313: requires ecw). You need both gwe and ecw for all the freight.
    • Southeastern high speed: comes with standard or deluxe edition
    • Great western express: 43 for high speed, 166 for commuter, 66 for freight. Can buy diesel legends where you can run br blue trains in a separate timetable
    • East coastway: nice, relaxing route. Can buy the 313
    • Island line 2022: much improved version of the original. Short but sweet
    • Northern trans penine: br blue, can also buy heavy freight pack
    • Tees valley: br blue, can buy 20 and 31 which add layers
    • Cathcart circle: service variety (circle, newton, neilston
    • Birmingham cross city: may only have a 323 but it's received lots of love. Many new features. You also get unique layers which you'll need ntp, gwe, tvl and any of the routes that have a class 66, rhtt.
    • Railhead treatment train: new freight cars, adds seasonal new services to sehs and bcc.
    • Spirit of steam: if you like steam. Not my favorite
    • Lgv: if you like French high speed and going at 300kmh. It's a roller coaster ride too.
German routes: almost all are great, the good thing about german routes is that they layer and sub into each other so routes can get busier.
    • Msb: it's like the base route required for layers on other german routes
    • Munchen augsburg: high speed with the ice and sbahn with the 423. Got some great sounds. You also get freight layers and other passenger layers if you have other dlc.
    • Rhein ruhr osten with g6 dlc: the g6 is an excellent dlc, the route comes with sbahn with 422 and freight. Quite a scenic route
    • Hrr: comes with only passenger runs by default (422, 425). But you get freight layers and other passenger layers. You can also buy the 101 which is an excellent dlc.
    • Rsn: if you like German freight. You can also buy the 155 and 363 for more freight action.
    • Koln Aachen: high speed, regional express, other layers too. You can also buy the 423 from new journeys expansion for a brand new timetable so it feels a bit busier.
    • Bremen oldenburg: lots of variety and ai. You also get the 110 and nwagen which are great if you like older german content
    • Skw: comes with standard or deluxe edition
    • Dresden chemnitz: you get a tilting train, very scenic and steep gradients and lots of ai at dresden
    • Dresden riesa: tons of variety and trains by default. You'll need hrr for the 101 runs and ska for the ice runs.

Thanks the advice given went for standard tsw3 in the sale, that steam pack looks rather primitive, like i got in TrainSimulator. ...

Q:1) I downloaded some 58 GB via steam, and then another VERY SLOW (6.5MB/s) 70 GB again, is that normal?
Can you stop that and resume tomorrow?
Q:2) i wonder how and were do i find all the stuff i bought in the past?

Your can pause downloads whenever you want but it's better to keep it downloading no matter how long it takes. Download speed is dependent on your internet.

You can see them in the manage dlc page if you scroll down. It's going to be on the right side where all your dlcs are.

    1. Go to your Steam Library
    2. Select TSW3
    3. The DLC tab is on the right side, just below the achievements tab.
    4. Click on the "Manage my X DLC" on the lower right of the DLC tab.
      X
is the number of DLC you currently have.

Thanks, just started TSW3 ... seems that all my 'acquirements' in TSW2 are lost?

If you bought it with the same Steam account, you should have all the TSW2 DLC ported to TSW3.

PS: If you mean "achievements" then yes, you need to do them again. They might not even be the same ones.

Just had my first stint with TSW3, seems to work, apart from some occassional stutter with my graphics, although i have a 12900 i9 and 3080ti, maybe a bug LoL. I don't see much graphical improvements yet over TSW2 however.

PS you ever saw the Blue-Max? Old movie with Peppard as an arrogant German ww1 asshole pilot, great film.
