I wondering what the community will think about this. Since it seems we might not get eurostar in the game at all. If we had a choice would you guys prefer a 16 car ICE 3 or TGV doing these services or none at all to keep the route realistic? We have Midland Main Line HST layering onto this route in St Pancras soon. I thought it would be cool if we had ICE 3 layering onto this route making St Pancras even more busy. Note the ICE 3 is a 8 car train so would have put a extra 8 train to make 16 and is a little more identical to the eurostar 374. But just want to know your thoughts on this. It's okay if you agree or disagree. Joethefish
ICE 3 because its the closest train to a Class 374. However in the future that can become the German version of 374 these are Hollandstrecke Duisburg Oberhausen Arnhem Utrecht DB Baureihe 408 & Schnellfahrstrecke Stuttgart Ulm Rhein-Main LGV Est Européenne DB Baureihe 407.
I like the scenario/explaination behind the TGV Layer as it is, and it's quite plausible. However, a TGV in SNCF livery running a Eurostar service is a bit more of a stretch. So, it's realism for me here.
One thing I think is maybe making a copy of the timetable. One that features one of these trains and one that doesn't. Like they did with Dresden & I believe East Coastway
I honestly do not care. I don't live in the uk or Europe and my train knowledge is essentially nonexistent except that they exist in tsw. I wouldn't be able to tell what layers are realistic or not and I wouldn't know unless someone told me but at the end of the day, I wouldn't care. And generally for me, I like having more traffic or more variety/gameplay.
Dresden was mainly forced so the game would work on Gen8 consoles; the ICE3 isn't common in that area, but ICE services are, so it's not a far stretch. As for East Coastway, that was also a forced move, because the BR Class 313 (which came as a DLC for ECW) has 3 cars per unit, as opposed to the 377's 4 car setup. Substitution in a timetable requires the same number of cars (for stopping points mainly), so a copy and edit job was done for the 313. This proposed one for SEHS would be a very different story from either of them.
I’m usually a fan of slightly unrealistic layers, like the tube train on GWE for example. But putting an ICE on SEHS and acting like it’s an Eurostar would be a huge stretch…
The ICE3 at St Pancras is only realistic that one time it came as a trial run in 2010 at St Pancras but I’m all for realism onto the game. Even the TGV is weird even though a Postal unit came as a potential cargo train between different hubs in Europe
Fair enough am just hoping now we get eurostar somepoint down the line if not this is probably the only way to get more traffic on HS1
There’s already both a TGV and ICE 3M layer on SEHS. The TGV is drivable but the ICE 3M is AI, you can see it parked in St Pancras at some point in the day. for Eurostar services, I’d like to see an unbranded 373 instead personally, since licensing is an issue but it’s still a really good train to have in the game, plus on PC there’d be a branding patch mod anyways. The ICE 3M is out of the question, the one we have in game isn’t TVM and KVB equipped, which is why the current layer for it is AI only.
Not a bad idea but I think Matt said he will never do a unbranded train. But what if down the line they added the ICE Valero since it's basically the same model as the 374?
You are correct and remember in train simulator classic people have used it on TSC SEH by owning DB Baureihe 407 DLC and Schnellfahrstrecke Frankfurt am Main Mannheim DLC. ICE3 Velaro D has a TSC Manual that can be modified for TSW 3 if made
There's trains on other routes that should not be there. The G6 on BRO is approx 2 years before the loco existed.
I don't have the g6. There should be an option to remove trains from routes without having to delete dlc
Making an unbranded train is a last resort. There were moments in time where certain trains were unbranded which also goes into consideration. All other options are considered before going the direction of an unbranded train.
I wouldn't mind an Ai 'pack' for situations like these. I would imagine it coming with a selection of trains for a route. Or a train for a selection of routes. They would have no interiors so devs don't waste time with that and you wouldn't be able to ride them but they would fill up stations and yards. For instance, a 390 Pendolino pack would fill the platforms of Glasgow on Cathcart, it can be seen at Edinburgh on Edinburgh-Glasgow, it can fill platforms at Brimingham on the cross city lines and it can even be seen passing on the Bakerloo line. I think it would be worth a few pounds but no more. They would be basic models with no interior modelled and very few sounds so hopefully cheap to make and easy on the fps.
This all sounds very nice until we end up getting a proper 390 (or whatever), and then people complain they have to buy it again.
Absolutely correct and if you are wondering the closest German train to a 374 are 407 & 408. The only way to get it into the game seems to be something like this if you have Schnellfahrstrecke Stuttgart Ulm DB Baureihe 407 Duisburg Utrecht 408 and SEH you will find them on the international section of Saint Pancras running Express to Ashford skipping Ebbsfleet or stopping there then Ashford. Off map Channel Tunnel
The problem with this is that like above mentioned, players would have to pay for it again if it came to tsw as a loco or route dlc so they'll be complaining. They'll also complain that the devs wasted their time and effort on only partially modeling a train. So I don't see it happening
I'd prefer it were kept authentic for such an iconic route and train. I think the issue is down to licensing. Eurostar is also has a massive rebranding coming up soon with the Thalys merger.
It’s always been to licensing as Eurostar is hard to give it and is quite in a recovery because of COVID bad results and just merged with Thalys so I don’t think they really care about that now maybe later they will give licensing. Christrains struggled a lot while releasing his pack for MSTS and apparently even the design of the 373 is owned by Eurostar. That would be a challenge for DTG. PS: TGVs packs were released for Trainz by LaFranceEnTrains and the creator admitted not having the rights from Eurostar, he still used their logo though but the modeling is horrendous I regretted paying for it…
Where would licensing stand on say a GNER era route with regional eurostar class 373 in GNER livery on what was referred to as White Rose services I wonder?
Depends who owns the GNER license. If it's held by the DfT then it's fair game. If it's held privately then it's probably a dead end.
From my research it's owned by nobody; the trademarks are all dead. I'm not sure this is the case; AHS released a Class 373 and haven't had their offices raided by the SNCF Special Forces yet. However I'm much more convinced the Eurostar brand itself is problematic.
DTG should put the ICE1 layer on Southeastern high speed instead of the TGV duplex as the ICE1 was one of the starting routes of TSW3 and it almost looks like the euro star DTG could even make an unofficial Eurostar livery
Sometimes fictional/unofficial in the best way to go if you can't get license of rail operator it is also fun too sometimes DTG has to have a mix of fictional and realistic
The TGV was chosen because it’s the only train ( beside the Class 395 ) fitted with KVB and TVM-430 unlike the ICE 1
Keep it realistic or at least give us selectable layers so everyone is happy. I don't want to see a TGV on HS1 just as much as I don't want to a class 40 in 1990's Cornwall. If you do that is fine but why should one side have to suffer for the other?!
If you want fictional liveries, go to creators club. As Lamplight says, it's supposed to be a simulator.
Much agreed if it means a much more busier timetable (though not too unrealistic obviously). But what about some TSW routes which have either empty routes and/or stations - that's surely ruins the immersion more for a simulator than fictional liveries?
I'm for it to be honest, but I appreciate you'd have to have it optional for the purists. My idea would be 406 on Brussels services and Duplexes on the Parises, although the former would have to be AI.
It doesn’t for me. Sure, both cases are ‘wrong’, but in the one, there’s merely stuff absent while in the other you have actively added unrealistic stuff that just doesn’t exist. It’s the same reason why I strongly dislike the ICE1 on LFR and would have rather left the ICE slot empty there. To answer your question: no, a fictional livery is exponentially more immersion-breaking to me than an empty station.
Not for me to be honest. I would rather WCL just had the Sprinter and the class 37 rather than those ridiculous layers as for me they are immensly immersion breaking. A reskin into Intercity livery of the GWE HST would have been better than those layers even if the sounds, lights and interior were incorrect.
