Shouldn’t a lot or most of the passengers on the platforms be engrossed in their phones? It’s a common thing these days.
If I was driving NTP, TVL or SoS I’d be very concerned if the passengers pulled out and started looking at their mobiles… In any event, I vote no. Cellphones, useful as they are, have become a scourge of modern society as people plod along with them glued to their ear or texting oblivious to anything else. Height of ignorance too. In the supermarket on Saturday, behind a woman who was on her phone in the queue and kept talking while packing and paying the checkout cashier, walked off still yapping away.
I've always said that the pasangers should be holding something in there hands. Yes some mobile phones or bags or a case or something rather than just walking around like a zombie
Obviously not early set routes but like it or not they’re part of modern life. Walk into any station now and the majority of people will have a phone in their hands.
This. As a confessed old fogey I am thankful to have spent most of my life bereft of mobile phones and social media, and to have lived through the golden years of rock and popular music when people knew how to sing and play their own instruments. Although a cellphone has its uses, on a train I would rather read a good book.
So guys what do you think about passengers holding something in there hands instead of nothing any ideas. I've said a phone a bag a case a brolly a ruck sack
You could have some pigeons resting at the end of the platform and when the train arrives they fly away. I'm getting carried away now lol tell me to stop
Let's get the passengers to behave like normal humans, walking normally, staying off the tracks, boarding and exiting trains as expected and dressing for the weather and season. If those things can be accomplished, then we can move on to what they are carrying. I do agree about the pigeons though. And where's the garbage? We don't live in the sqeaky- clean environment that TSW would have us believe.
At the start of a service I open the train doors for the passengers to get on only to find they were all on the train already and they play a trick on me by getting off and walking away. I then drive my empty train to where I thought those passengers wanted to go. Instead of passengers holding phones, DTG need to make the passengers act like passengers and not like idiots. Here’s a clue for them to work towards… Passengers should get ON the train at the START of a service and get OFF the train at the END of the service. Pretty simple concept. At intermediate stations, some can get on and some can get off if they like but having everyone get off at the start and then no passengers left to get off at the end is the thing that is driving me insane.
I respectfully disagree with the suggestion. All it would do is encourage gen z to spend even more time staring at their phones
Having a bit more life around these empty dead stations like birds a few planes flying over diggers that move cranes that move would make the apnosphere a lot better
But since TSW is a simulation of real life, it would only make sense to have npc‘s with smartphones in their hand, because it’s common at train stations
My favorite example of this behavior is going non-stop between Victoria and Gatwick or Gatwick and Victoria. At Gatwick, planes are flying overhead, but no one boards or disembarks from the trains, indeed there are very few passengers there at all. My explanation is that all flights have been diverted to and from Heathrow, a fact not communicated to the TOC.
Interesting approach. The guy on the left won´t be hit by a cement truck. The guide dog could come as a tier 2 bonus for some mastery.
I think DTG have already thought of this, and future proofed passengers to have mobiles? Take the way that passengers act. Standing mindlessly in your way. Or walking mindlessly straight into you, trying their best to shove you into the path of the train that you are taking over from. All that's missing is their mobile devices
Nowadays people just doing nothing and looking around, contemplating, are considered zombies, while those staring at their phones are considered normal... not good.
People constantly looking at their phones, sometimes while crossing the street in traffic, doesn't bother me anymore. What does bug me, and I don't know why, are people who wear those silly- looking ear things and talk loudly to themselves. We used to stare at those people and imagine they were disturbed.
I don't mind the concept of mobile phones (I do find them rather useful) but personally people standing on a platform as a train is coming in is not a situation I like in real life and most certainly not one I want to experience in TSW as well. The wife doesn't let me get on the bus anymore as this is something that really riles me up and has caused a few less than favourable situations before!
Some of the NPCs have idle animations, like crossing their arms when standing still for example. I guess you could add like a 20% chance of pulling out a smartphone as an idle animation, which would obviously have to wander back into the bag/pocket when the NPC starts moving. Could also further separate that into looking at the phone (typing/chatting) and holding it to one‘s ear (making a call).
Having a good crowd system would be a big plusfor immersion. Some games have great crowd animations, but those are AAA games with stratospheric budget (assasins creed series, hitman..) Maybe one day such crowd system will be included in the engine itself. With limited budget in TSW I would like some variety in what the zombies are doing : - having luggage, small animations (like books, phones), small interactions (talking beetwenn themselves, using benches, ticket machines) And some more variations in themselves : - taller, smaller, more clothes, childs.. Another thing that can be done maybe is adding static people that you dont need to move around that may be more easier, cheaper to add and easier to perform different things (like the railsfans we already have for ex. )
Not as of yet in TSW, it’s been said before there’s difficulty in not getting them to wander off or appear on their own. most games tend to avoid them being implemented for various reasons and personally it’s definitely not the be all and end all if it’s decided to go down that route. edit: though regards to the thread topic, I think things such as phone, birds, guide dogs, luggage, wheelchairs/mobility devices and food/drink items would be some other good things to implement for passengers.
During the past few days, I've been working my way through the scenarios on the West Sommerset route. What a hoot it id to watch train-watching passengers dash from one side of a platform to the other and mob up when the passenger doors open!
Aye, lock em all in the waiting room until the train has come to a stop and the guard has opened the door!
I think locking them to the benches would do the job. They could even be unlocked after the train has stopped but before the doors have openned if they are well behaved. I think I may take this suggestion to management as it will suit me perfectly!
Take a closer look! This and other threads have noted an "old man" sitting on a bench reading a newspaper on the Peak Forest route. Well -- take a closer look, male chauvinists . . . that's not a man (the clue is the shoes).
That could well be a guide dog being trained by a sighted person. I notice the dog isn't wearing the high-visibility harness that most working guide dogs carry.
View attachment 117807 Not really, it´s a rather good photoshop from a german comedy site. (I know, Germans and humor ...) Another one below. Recommendation for arm implants (38cm) to get your selfies without the need to use a stick. Available for left and right handers. Still a little expensive but cute! In short, don´t take it serious.
