    Hi tormeister

Can one use the DW NYC RS3 in the place of the one included in this route?

A guy on the RWA site has done this and the lights work properly, which is a puzzle as the B&A one is a DW as well.

As you see in my screenshot I have swapped it for the DW.

There's many ways to do so.

Easy: Clone the scenario, then use LocoSwap or change the engine in the editor.

Pro: Extract ScenarioProperties.xml and Scenario.bin from MainContent.ap, change the loco via Search and Replace in a text editor. Update Props to add the DW blueprints, create a folder Scenarios\<originalScenarioGUID>\ and place the modded files in there. This will directly update the original scenario. :)

It's not a puzzle since G-TraX manipulated the loco script, controls and other stuff. (DW RS-3 has self-lapping brakes, GTraX RS-3 has not)

That's the beauty of TSC. We can use whatever stock we want.

In TSW, you are limited to the toys daddy DTG is giving you...

Quick question though. DW patched the RS-3's a while back. The patch is a stand-alone download. Would the patch work on the RS-3 in the route?

    From the patch:

    What has changed?

    •Air brake system sounds.
•Traction motor and axle run sounds.
•Bogies, coupling, rail junction and wheel flange sounds.
    •Cabin switch and wipers sounds.
•Throttle, reverser handle and bell sounds.
    •Smokier exhaust particles.
    •Keyboard shortcuts for lights.

Below are the instructions for the keyboard shortcuts for the lights:

    1. Gauge lights - Y
    2. Number lights front - N
    3. Number lights rear - Shift + N
    4. Class lights front - C
    5. Class lights rear - Shift + C
    6. Class lights color - U/Shift + U
    7. Head light front - H
    8. Head light rear - Shift + H

No it would not. It is a different engine.

The developers are doing a debug right now and will issue a patch soon. This includes the RS3 and the PA. This message was posted today on the RWA forum.

Im sorry but Im lost with the instructions on fixing the PA crash when going to Cab view. This is beyond my understanding. Is there an easy way to do this, or should I try waiting for the company to release a patch?

Open your Railworks folder. Do this by right-clicking the game in your Steam Library, then choosing Manage.. Browse Local Files. A window will open.

Open the zip I've uploaded. You will see a folder named "Assets". Drop this folder onto an empty spot in the RailWorks folder. That's all.

Have to say this is another one catching my eye as I’m a sucker for anything Alco but the reviews on Steam are putting me off. Maybe one for the summer sale.

Get it. The route is top notch.

As for the stock, the PA and FA are DTM, so you know what to expect visually. Unfortunately there's just nobody else doing these locos, so they're ok for me. Apart from the visuals, they operate well. Smokebox did the scripting.

The RS is from DW, G-TraX messed up the blueprints but this will be fixed in the upcoming patch.

Thanks Torf. The main thing for me is, do they sound and smoke like Alco’s?!

I just noticed this, there's light emitters on the PA permanently active that can't be switched off.

    Smokebox
Is this known and being adressed in the patch?

I am definitely thinking it's best to hold off and see what comes out in the way of patches, or wait for it to get discounted in a sale.

Well I've now taken the plunge after listening to a couple of clips of the RS3 working. It's obviously not perfect but will hopefully get patched at some time.

I also have a lingering itch to revisit my attempts to build part of the NYC in upstate New York, Thendara up to Malone Jn or at least part of it, but was always put off by the lack pf NYC assets particularly rolling stock (the line used to carry an overnight train in each direction from New York to Montreal). Not making any promises on that as my route building mojo is not strong these days, but it remains one of the long standing items on the bucket list of interesting projects.

Thanks for the help. I did browse the files but no zip file came up.

What can I say... just started the first scenario all stations commuter run with the RS3 and three coaches and I'm sat here with a massive grin on my face.

Superb, what I've seen so far.

Lovely choreography as you hustle between the station stops the route is alive with switching engines working the yards and main line freight overtaking. Eat that, TSW!!

Personally, imo you should buy the NYC RS3 from Diesel Workshop directly, not only is it how it's supposed to work, it also has one more paint scheme that isn't a part of the route

I’ll check that out but already on thin ice with the wife about my hobby spend the last few months, particularly when she saw all the currency exchange fees for individual Run 8 purchases!

Edit: Just checked out the price tag on the indie versions and, my lord's, think I will stick with the ones supplied with the route. That's more than some study level aircraft cost in FSX/MSFS...

After today's patch, the AI RS3s are running without any lights...

    Oh well... :)

However this is a super route, just done the little Millbury switching trip. Okay the brake function on the HH600 is a bit twitchy and there's a weird sound loop in Notch 8, but the scenario is entertaining and the branch scenery nicely done.

Yep, ditto here as well. So I substituted my DW RS-3's for the included G-TraX locos, and they too don't display headlights. Any ideas as to how to restore them?

Even after the patch I found the included G-TraX RS-3's so difficult to operate that I cloned the 2 Career scenarios that use them as the player loco and made them standard so that I could a) substitute my DW RS-3's for the G-TraX ones, and b) actually finish these scenarios.

But (there's always a "but" isn't there?) I'd still like to complete these scenarios in their native Career mode. Is there any way to substitute the player locos for the superior DW ones and still have Steam recognize this as a valid scenario and apportion points properly?

Yeah, I think the brakes are off in the G-TraX RS-3, takes ages to slow down. You have to move the handle so close to Emergency for a decent application rate, always risking shooting the brakes.

The independent brake is far too weak, even a light engine takes too long to stop using it (it should come to a halt almost instantly doing a full indy application from 15 mph) - a problem that is widespread on TSC - that's definitely something that's better in TSW.

I'm using the DW version for my scenarios. Its headlights have that warm orange glow which just looks more realistic.

Anyway, have to repeat that the route is fantastic. Devs GreatNortherner and JBFried have already published workshop scenarios - a great Boston railfan scenario and an introduction to the Spencer branch doing some shunting.

I have been away from TSC for a while and having just returned to this forum, I noticed the new G-Trax route, Boston to Albany. Of particular interest to me because I live in Worcester where the beautiful Union Station has been modeled. I watched the YouTube video by SC and was struck by the absence of any vehicular traffic on the Mass Pike which runs parallel to the tracks out to the town of Newton. Traffic is there in Rush Hour Boston-Providence in TSW2. I also have Portland terminal where there is an abundance of traffic on the roadways in comparison to none on the Mass Pike. Is there an add-on traffic pack of some sort or are these roadways absent of cars and trucks? Also, the CSX freight yard in Worcester is completely void of any freight cars.

    Thanks

    Haven't noticed (not a resident).

You're aware that the yards are not static as in TSW, they can be populated differently in each scenario.

Also CSX did not exist in the era depicted ;)

Thanks. I just went to the G-Trax site and pics that are shown do show vehicular traffic on the Mass Pike. The video must not have been taken from a specific scenario. Is there a scenario of the Worcester yard that shows freight cars?
