Ooo. Excited to test out SoS!

 

What time will the update be pushed on Steam?

 

Downloading now, ps4.

 

Well be giving the SoS patch a thorough test this evening, if it's a good as promised Ambergate will be getting pre-ordered.

Anyone know if the journeys Matt added for the 2nd loco add on pack made into this build please?

 

Does this SoS patch also address the wheel slip we see on the HUD at high speeds?

 

I’ve only had time to briefly run the Jubilee on the stretch of WCML on PS5 so far. Definitely feels much better to drive now.

Pressure didn’t rapidly drop off at low speeds.

The Jubilee feels like it takes a bit longer to get up to speed, not so overpowered.

Best part was at 25% cut-off and full regulator that it didn’t wheelslip at high speed, even when I got it up to 90mph.

Happy with the quiet safeties until we have finer control over the firing. Once manual firing comes to the game, I think the volume could be raised to a level between the new quieter levels and the deafen loudness it was at before.

From my quick little drive, I’m very happy with the update so far! Well done team! Can’t wait to get my teeth into it and 100% complete SoS now

PS: Can someone who's already got the patch do one of the freight runs starting at Basford Hall, dropping down the Independent Line see if you still get a SPAD in the tunnel?

 

The wheel slip at high speeds was the most annoying part of SOS. I can't wait to try it later

 

Still unfortunately getting a pretty catastrophic derailing when trying to complete the Edge Hill Coach Shunting service at 06:34 on Spirit of Steam. It is just after where you start going forward again after the first lot of reversing.

 

Can we expect in CajonPass a trailer car subbing into timetables? It would be so enriching for train consist. And what about releaseing livery randomization in CJP, Matt was thinking about? There are so many great livery for cars in CC...

 

How about CJP SD70ACe banking comm capabilities? Is it brought to the ES44C4 standard? Is the banking comm button aslo overtake/control the DP engines air braking input i.e. bailing off it's independent brake when combining auto brake + dyn brake.

Well, for the first time since release, I could finally complete the Reliable Rescue scenario. The new safety valves also mean I could actually enjoy the run instead of scrambling for hearing protection. The updated physics feel better, but someone more knowledgeable than me will have to judge the accuracy.

 

Can confirm that missing loco layers on CCL & ECW* are now present.
* Don't ever recall having the class 40 and Class 52 for railtour duties on ECW but there you go!!!

There is a timetabled service : The Manxman - London Euston to Liverpool L.S.
Jubilee + 10 x MK1s

Is it just me or is anyone else also having trouble taking this train to 90mph ?
I remember back in TSW2, this train could go upto 95 to 100 mph ( I think the locos. were overpowered ) but it is feeling a little slow nowadays.
Is it prototypical if it stays around 65 mph. Matt ?!

Also, I've noted that the uncontrolled wheelslip at high speed has been resolved.
And quieter safeties are definitely an upgrade, so great work on that

What reverser setting are you on? Just trying an 5:31 express service, my train sped up top 90 mph quite easily.

 

Starting at 75 -> 50 -> 25 -> 19%
Were you pulling 10 carriages while doing 90mph ?!

 

TBH that sounds more of a realistic top speed. Jubilees were essentially Black Fives+ and a more realistic cruising speed would be around 75 to 80 MPH.

Some performance logs on this page Review: Jubilees & Black 5's: Locomotive Performance (tripod.com) with speeds generally topping out in the high 70's, one or two just getting over 80. So the 95 or 100 MPH of TSW2 was pretty much overpowered and fictional.

 

DTG JD make the patch for br146 introduction for main spessart bahn and class 377 introduction for east coastway

 

Still Matt, as I just posted, sustained 90 MPH or even 85 MPH with a Jubilee seems a bit fanciful. Maybe a Duchess or Princess could manage it, but even then the fireman is going to be shovelling coal like billy-ho.

But local services going 75 & 'The Manxman' rattling at 60 seems a little odd !

But again, I'm no expert on British Steam, hence asking !

( PS : I'm not facing any problems while taking a local up to 75. It's just that Manxman feels a little slow )

 

I managed to get The Manxman service to 90 mph, yes it take some times to accelerate to 90 mph since it's not a diesel nor an electric traction. I tried to vary the reverser settings between 15-25% to manage the boiler pressure as efficient as possible.

See, you are 4.4 miles from Acton Bridge at this point. In TSW2 you can cross sidings at Minshull Vernon at that speed ( which is 9.5 miles from Acton Bridge ! ). That's what I'm saying. It's not like it's stuck at 65. Feels more sluggish at that speed.

All seems okay to me now, if that used to be the case

 

Driving The Manxman myself now and the physics are significantly improved - it's really noticeable. Not only this but the safety valve volume is now at a much more reasonable level.

As a suggestion, is the reason the Jubilee can hold 90 or thereabouts possibly because the TSW fireman can shovel coal at unrealistically high rates? I recall seeing several mentions of Duchesses and the like having two firemen to maintain the very high top speeds they were mechanically capable of.

Perhaps a factor to think about implementing with the manual firing physics would be a 'fireman tiredness factor' which might more realistically limit performance on the express locos - just a thought. This could even be slightly randomised, representing the capabilities of different firemen.

Excellent work so far, I really hope manual firing comes in the not-too-distant future as steam is a lot of fun when it works properly.

 

Is that how it should be? ROG 37 removal of white 375 to depot. Hanging under the 375 last car, clearly not in the right place

 

Look forward to trying this later as it sounds much improved. Hopefully some DLC will follow for this route at some point. Be good to try keeping to time on the stopping services.

 

Looks like a good idea. I don't think the Jubilees are designed to comfortably cruising at 90 mph, since it's shaking very hard at that speed (in TSW3 at least). 70-75 mph are more than enough imo.

 

It's still not possible to keep time but this is down to the automated timings on the timetable being used rather than the real thing - I really hope this is reviewed and updated. The physics themselves do seem much better than before, with the caveat about the Superman-like fireman mentioned above.

 

Question re PS4: Will it now be possible to select the Class 375/9 SEW on SEHS? Thank you.
