Hey Gang, I have been asked to create a new thread to share update images etc, so they are not lost in the bigger Skyhook feedback thread. Anything not related directly to the patch, please go ahead and continue to post in the feedback thread. The idea here is to share ongoing progress with the patch.
Morning everyone, A couple of visual updates from me. Will and the gang have spoken about 158 updates, so I want to touch on environment a bit today and show you progress. There are numerous custom assets that have replaced existing assets right across the board, with Jon and his art team working very hard. I want to share one of the new bridges, of which there are many, at Loughborough. Attention to detail is getting ramped across the route.
We are also adding clutter and new signage across the route as I type to you now. I will get additional photos, but I believe personally the route is becoming much more alive. This is a demonstration of new signage. The artist just kindly sent it to me now. The signs are not finished, so you will see the placeholder text by the disabled sign (yes we know and we are backfilling text as signs are going in ). You can also see a significant detail increase across the station, from canopy edgings, to custom posters, to more detailed blinds in windows etc. This just happened to be the station the artist was working on, but this is reflected across the route. Every thing from whole new major buildings, bridges down to little things like flowerpots and better quality (and more accurate) station signage. In short, everything big and small has been revisited by the artists.
I also want to share one of the new custom buildings, of which there are quite a number. Please be aware that this is work in progress (so still not fully polished etc), but you can see we are adding landmarks that were not present in release, for that extra realism we all aspire to.
Looking pretty nice, the above changes across the route are going to really elevate this DLC, to the point that the 2 versions will be quite distinguishable. Can’t wait to get my hands on it now.
Fantastic stuff. Can I ask, because it’s an oft neglected aspect of this game, if you happened to have watched that night lighting comparison I did? It isn’t a criticism of Skyhook at all as all TSW3 routes look like this. If there’s anything that can be done with it at some point, particularly with the scenery around the chapter markers, it would vastly improve the night driving experience. Awesome work nonetheless however.
Looking great. I already enjoy the route, mostly due to the 158. But these additions will take the route to the next level.
Echo the above sentiments. Looking great. Also a fantastic (and fast) response to the feedback which should be a learning point for all the developers going forward.
The screenshots are looking very nice, looking forward to the updated version with the new timetable. I do think the openess is refreshing, I know different companies do have different ways of operating but sometimes the cloak and dagger, we can't reveal anything doesn't always help. My reticence to purchase Peak Forest being one result of it.
I hope that you all will indulge me whilst I share a few more bridges. I think they are such an important part of any route, both for getting your bearings from the cab and the immersion they add. Dan "The Bridge Man" from the art team has just sent me these images to share with you all that the art team has created. You can see the depth of detail in these handcrafted bridges. This selection also highlights just the sheer variety and style of bridges that Dan and the art team have crafted. An incredible array of custom bridges that are visually so very different. I actually personally love seeing this. As an aside, you can also see in these shots updates from the foliage team as they work on foliating (what a great word for a Friday afternoon) the route based on feedback. You can see the additional attention to lineside foliage detail quite clearly. As always, caveats apply, these are all currently work in progress and are still being updated. I hope you all love these bridges as much as me, helping make this route so much more immersive.
Can you get him to have a go at the Gillingham Level crossing bridge, as the one in game is just a blue box... Joking of course, but it would be nice!
I like this one especially, it’s nice to see touches like warning signs - they make what are otherwise ordinary patches of scenery pop.
Massive hats off to Skyhook and all those working on the MML Updates, they look like they'll make a world of difference to the route. Looking forward to them, and I think this will speed up my purchase of the route. (I was going to do it when possible, but I think it's now priority #1.)
long time since I have been to Gillingham. Was a steam railtour many moons ago. I think Dan would have his work cutout for him for life as a bridge builder if we had him work across the entire TSC and TSW catalogue
The updates here look good. I'm not buying TSW routes on/near release after just how burned I got with Trenton but keep this up (and following the good release feedback on the 158) I'll be picking the route up at the next sale.
Well done SHG, your level of post-release support shows you really care about this route. You generated some good will here so I went ahead and purchased it on this basis. Other Dovetail partners would do well to take a leaf out of your book! Will this attention to detail be extended to any of your previous releases once you’re done with MML?
Looking great. Will the "Brush" sign make it onto the factory at Loughborough at all. If not no worries. Thanks for keeping us updated :P Hentis
Looks awesome! I think this is going to be one of the biggest patches any TSW route has ever received.
jane-skyhook wow, that is some amazing work, here we have what will be the best route on TSW3 I think. The attention to detail is clear to see. Dan "the bridge man" has a new career in virtual civil engineering and deserves a big thumbs up and well done form us all!! So please pass it on
Thank You for the screenshots particularly Barrow upon soar Footbridge. Can we be updated on additional services and AI services being implemented, particularly a number added + AI totals please.
Can I ask jane-skyhook Any chance of creating a custom tile category, set with a much bigger streaming value than standard scenery assets for specific landmarks on this route. Such as Radcliffe Power Station? I think it would make a real difference to see these on the horizon or through trees and between buildings.
Thank you for the updates Jane and thank you to all the team for the updates you are putting in place. This has gone from a route that I was going to pass on to a must buy when the patch is out especially given the love given to the 158. The forums can be a toxic place but this topic and the main mml feedback thread shows when there is good communication from developers and an honest converstion so people can set their expectations the topics are far outweighed by positive and supportive posts. As one for future routes perhaps you guys could look at the pylons in a future model. Love the pics of the power station but it'd a shame to see the same generic pylon when the east Midlands is full of different types. Minor one though and only me sad enough to notice. have a great weekend all.
I am loving these updates. Thank you for sharing them and thank you to you and the team for working hard and bringing these to us.
jane-skyhook You´re doing really decent customer communication. And it seems you´re about to walk the talk. Great, all thumbs up!
Hey Alex, I am certainly planning to discuss the new services in detail. I am just giving Tom more time to keep adding so I can discuss with some clarity where they are at. Tom is plugging away at them and has been for quite a while now. Once his work stabilises I will discuss with pleasure. Likely just after the holiday weekend.
Thank you so much for these kind words. It is so appreciated. We want to give you the best route we can as the dev team each has huge personal pride. The feedback from all of you here has really helped us with that too.
Its not sad at all. I dont think we will be able to get that in this round of patching, but I have certainly noted it for the future. I agree with you on the comms. I am really grateful to everyone who has been so helpful, including some robust conversations that have been handled really politely. It has helped me personally with the reception I have received here, but most importantly the feedback has been invaluable to the work on the route. I appreciate it very much from everyone. We have had good conversation from everyone and I hope that continues as MML matures and other projects in the pipeline. I intend to stay here communicating with you all until you all get bored with me!
This is looking absolutely glorious so a massive thumbs up to you and your team: you've definitely earnt the long weekend. The only question I have is whether the GCR bridge over the MML at Loughborough has been changed to resemble the real structure any further as the rest of Loughborough really is looking brilliant. Have a great, well deserved, weekend!
This looks great, Jane - thank you for all the hard work and for keeping us informed. At some point would you be able to tell us a bit about work on signalling and signage - making sure AWS ramps are in the right places and activate only in the correct direction, TPWS trigger speeds are correct, and speed restriction commencement boards are in the correct places with the correct numbers on them. My apologies if you’ve covered all this before - there are quite a few threads and other information sources to search now! Thanks in advance.
