Since there is an Xbox DLC sale going on between TVL and WCL as the route to buy on this sale. Due to myself having NEC Boston Providence and BML from the 2022 winter sale which was the Rush hour routes. Between these two 1980s-1990s routes should I go for DTG-made TVL set in 1989 sectors BR North Eastern Region or the Rivet Games route Cornish Main Line Penzance St Austell set in 1990-1993 BR Western Region? In terms of rolling stock is the DTG-made TVL Class 37/5 better than its rivet games version on Cornish Main Line Penzance St Austell WCL? For DMU is Class 101 Daisy which I used to play for a bit on TSW 2020 Xbox version Huddersfield Line NTP 1983 better than a Rivet Games Class 150/2? Since I stay away from Rivet Games products due to their constant state of being glitched despite the patches meant to fix them
Thames Valley would be my choice. It has a great industrial feel to the route plus if you have class 20 and 31, it gives more loco options too.
Tees Valley is a great route and I do definitely enjoy it. The 101 is fantastic once you get the hang of it and getting 3 locos is nice. The extra dlc is also pretty great with the 31 and 20. I might end up getting WCL as its on sale just as I already have the other routes though.
Take both, both are old good products (not like recent ones) In my opinion Rivet is still much better than Skyhook in terms of quality of textures and sounds. I found myself enjoy their routes much more than SHG (as for SHG I appreciate the extravagancy of Canecreek more than HSC for example... yes I know, Im weird, that's why I return to WCL, NTP, TVL, CCB, IOW...).
Tees Valley is a one I return to regularly. I’ve had this from day one. WCL is ok but ruined by the abysmal sound of the 150 which has never been fixed. Unrealistic flange squeal.
Tees valley is really good and stands it own despite the age. The class 31 & class 20 loco DLC extend the game play on it as well.
Tees valley all day. Back then time and effort was put in to these old routes. The trees look real and the country side. Buildings look great and basically a lot of love put in to it. Routes today look cheap and rushed with cartoon trees and over exposed lighting.
I would say Tees Valley despite the fact it didn't go to Bishop Auckland. It is one of the best older routes with some interesting freight workings. It is a shame that like all the other older routes its potential was never reached and it will unlikely never get the TSW3 upgrades. WCL does look lovely despite some of the inaccurate scenery but it feels too much like a compromise route with no suitable express trains (not the silly and unrealistic layers) and really St Austell is not a good place to end a route.
Like others have said, tees valley. It offers soo much more variety compared to wcl. Plus, you can get the 20 and 31 dlc which are pretty good in my opinion.
You have a point there and speaking of Class 150/2 it has Poor implementation of AP Class 150/2 physics and sound package. If there was another Rivet route that is on sale Bahnstrecke Olten Sursee Luzern with something like Deutsche Bundesbahn Bahndirektion Frankfurt Niddertalbahn Bad Vilbel Glauburg-Stockheim made by TSG. My choice is NID due to any Rivet Games route that's patched and still glitches despite the patch to fix it
The vote of 87% at this moment for the TVL says it all. As I have said before WCL is rubbish and I am surprised that Rivet Games have done nothing to improve it and get it right. Jane at Skyhook is doing everything to improve their offering MML until it meets with our satisfaction, which is so reassuring. Shame some of the other developers don’t take the same view.
Can I ask (sorry for the slight hijack) what the current state of WCL is? I know the 150 is still suffering with bad physics issues and sound problems? Is the 37 still buggy (brakes etc) ? Also wondering if keeping to the timetable and getting gold medals is able to be done? Its been on the wishlist for a while but obviously wasn't going to pay full price for it but is it worth £14 current state?
Personally I’d get it for £14. It’s not really bad enough not to get it at all. However the 150 is appalling. The 37 is a nice touch though with it's freight work and also doing passenger services.
As David5150 said the 150 is appalling, the route scenery is diabolical but for £13.74, I would get it in the hope that Rivet will update in the future although unlike Skyhook, it might take Rivet a few years to start to make it right.
Rivet seem to have brushed this one off unfortunately. I’ve seen multiple threads about the poor state of the 150. No response from DTG or Rivet to my knowledge. Absolutely shocking. Why is this allowed when we pay for a product? I no longer play anything with the 150 in because I get so frustrated at how bad it is.
I actually think the 150 is in a worst state now then it was on release, everytime they tried and fixed it they just made it worst. Part of me wishes they'd just roll back to the original version, at least then we could actually run on time.
Tees Valley is great. I think I may prefer it to NTP since there's more service variety (esp. with the 20 and 31 DLCs).
The current DLCs on sale with xbox end in a days time. Hope there are some more released on discount afterwards but somehow doubt it!!!
TVL is one of my favourite routes, particularly if you have the compatible DLC. That said, I picked up CML in the sale and I'm enjoying it. I'm not familiar with the route or the 150 so the inaccuracies which people are angry about haven't been an issue for me. Given how infrequent sales are on XBOX I'd therefore recommend buying both as you might not get another chance to purchase either at a discount....
I agree, TVL is a very good (gritty northern) route but the thing is, you're primarily using the 101 and in my humble opinion WCL is by far and away the best of the two routes to run that train. Unlike the relative flatness of TVL, not only do you get ample opportunity to open up the throttle and maintain speed limits on the tricky downhill sections of the line but you have to do so within a very, very challenging timetable. Sure, to those who know better the 150 is a bit wonky and the route itself might not be particularly authentic but if you're looking for a bit of old skool charm then that little 101 really does feel at home on this route.
Doesn’t look like there is an xbox continuation sale of different products. Still we have a Steam TSW sale until this Thursday.
Tees Valley is truly great. I got the British pack (which included TVL and its two loco DLCs) back in the TSW2 days. The included 101 is great fun, and it’s one of the only routes for me (as more of a passenger driver) where freight is truly fun because of the amazingly recreated steel works and sidings… they feel truly massive. The route offers lots of variety, the landscape changes significantly between the two endpoints. It’s also generally in a great state… can’t remember the last time I encountered a bug on there. West Cornwall Local is also nice with its lovely landscape and station models, but it doesn’t have anywhere near as much variety as Tees Valley, and many also continue to criticize the Class 150 on there (although I personally don’t have huge issues with it, it does lack the personality and authenticity of the 101 though).
You are correct they should have simply done it all the way to Plymouth from Penzance. Distance is 79 miles 38 chains. If that would be done you would have seen it something like a typical rivet games route poor scenery all the way up to Plymouth. This is why I haven't gotten a Rivet Games product
driverwoods#1787, I don’t blame you for not buying a Rivet Product. What is it about Rivet? Skyhook are bending over backwards to correct their product but Rivet do nothing and charge the same price. Although I like most of their locomotives and station replication, their scenery design is abysmal and amateurish. What annoys me is after reading this forum and their’s, unlike Skyhook where Jane has been magnificent in responding and informing the forum with what Skyhook are doing to put their route right for us all, Rivet’s Jasper has rarely responded and have never said the Rivet will work hard to correct their abysmal WCL and make it look more realistic and seem prepared to leave it as a shambolic fantasy mess of an offering.
The Reason why I don't buy a Rivet games product is that when they fix it more problems occur and will reappear again furthermore they will not reply to the community about the mistakes they did and fix it to make it realistic.
