A straight forward yes or no. For me I don't use it as for me it doesn't work correctly having fog in the middle of summer after 10mins

I usually have it on just because it's my default setting. It always seems to go either Fog or Heavy Rain/Snow (temperature allowing for Snow), but it can be good at times. It (fog) came in quite rapidly on a WCL Penzance ECS run, really looked nice with the bay, etc.

At other times it's just frustrating, though. Gets repetitive after a while.

I do still play with Dynamic Weather on as I like the changing from sunny to cloudy, but I do agree with everyone else in the community that It either goes to fog, rainfall, or snow most of the time. One thing that I have done to counteract this is download the god mode mod, which allows me to control the weather. If I get fog, I just remove it and hope it doesn't come back lol. So for my final answer, yes, I do use dynamic weather.

I stopped using it, because literally every time it starts raining after a few minutes and it won't stop for ages, no matter the month/season.

If they updated the feature to make rain much rarer, especially in summer, I would use dynamic weather more often. Alternatively, maybe it would be sufficient to increase the time between two random weather changes, so that the rainless period is longer.

I use it mostly but have started turning it off if I am really not wanting another sunny day to turn into the sort of weather seen on a B grade horror movie cliffhanger scene.

Maybe Chatham has a strange microclimate and is shrouded in mist when not under a deluge of biblical proportions!

I still think there is work to ease the transitions as they're a bit binary at times but i do use it.

Dynamic weather definitely needs more work to make it more realistic and usable. As everyone has said, it seems to systematically switch rather quickly to poor visibility weather which is just not credible. The algorithm that it uses obviously requires significant adjustment, hopefully this will happen in the not too distant future.

Never use it. It’s just delayed rain. For me, the weather changes are much too abrupt and predictable.

I like it, but two things annoy me.

    • They didn’t add regional variations to match the real world location of the route.
    • They let some complainers talk them into removing the cool close-up lightning.

I do use dynamic and rarely ever now use custom, I certainly don’t want either removed and just want to see dynamic fixed/update to not constantly rain every 15 minutes and to get rid of that over exposure lighting thing when it goes foggy.

I rarely use it to be honest. I think it needs to be more stable and what I mean is if you start with clear skies is that you end with partly sunny skies or cloudy skies. If you start with light rain than maybe end with heavy rain or just cloudy skies. I don't think it should go from clear to fog to then heavy rain. Is just my opinion

Yea that lightning was spectacular… probably my favorite thing about that tram sim game are the thunderstorms lol
Sort of wish we had weather like that on here.

Any, to answer OP… I’ll sometimes use dynamic weather, but I’ll start with rain so that it phases into something else, hopefully. Usually I’ll play with it off though.

I use dynamic weather when I am playing TSW3 and when I do the IOW route I then use custom weather and on one service the weather went from fog to sunny and back to fog and I usually use dynamic weather when I am playing TSW3

I don't use it any more because it changes the weather too often, and you almost invariably get rain/snow/fog. Contrary to popular belief, it does not rain most of the time in the UK!

Also, the fact that the dynamic weather gives you snow for 6 months of the year is very unrealistic for the UK.

What tsw needs is a setting similar to Tramsim which has dynamic weather but you can set how quick the weather transitions. So if you set the dynamic weather from cloudy to rain, you can set the speed of transition to either very slow, slow medium, fast or very fast and it is a really good system. In tsw it just rains every 5 minutes when it is clear skies and will last for 20-30 minutes, stop and then rain again. It isn't constantly raining every day and it's clear the dynamic weather is set to have a high chance of rain or snow so we should be able to change how fast it can rain/snow.

I don't use dynamic weather anymore because of the unrealistic weather changes

It would seem I worded the question wrong as most of you who clicked you use it also claim it isn't good, Which tells DTG that they can get away with such stuff. Maybe I should have asked Is Dynamic Weather fit for purpose?

Whilst dynamic weather isn’t perfect yet, it is a highly requested feature that we’ve now got. I’m sure dtg can and will improve it

Yes I use dynamic weather most of the time and when there is time left at the begin of a service, I fine-tune the clouds and strength of wind with the "God mode"-Mod :)

The more I play (which is not a whole lot these days), the more I tend to go for custom weather. Dynamic weather not only needs tendencies reworked, but more importantly, some of the switches are so sudden it completely ruins the experience (fog especially). So yeah, I end up curating my rides by setting the weather myself and leaving it static.

I usually use dynamic weather but I gotta admit it seems it'll always switch to extremely bad weather, like heavy rain, thunderstorms and dense fog.

Actually, I can't remember seeing heavy rain without thunder. It always seems to thunder during heavy rain.

I had two runs on MML last night with dynamic weather and didn't get any rain or fog. One run was only 25 minutes the other nearly and hour.

What I experienced what makes a nice dynamic effect without getting rain or fog is if you set the slider for cloudiness in custom weather settings to about 1/3 and add some wind as well. Especially on the newer routes the cloud shadows provide some nice effects then so you get a bit of dynamic weather feeling here and then. :)

For me the biggest problem is indeed that if you start with clear blue sky it turns to a thunderstorm within 10 minutes. On routes like KWG that’s not as big of a problem but on routes like RSN it suddenly starts to rain even tho it was clear blue sky 10km ago.
But by far the biggest problem is that it starts to rain although there are literally no clouds above you. Normally it should start with a lot of clouds till you don’t see any blue and then start to rain and not the other way around XD

Funny you should say that. I was on MML most of the day yesterday and only needed the wipers once, what’s going on with dynamic weather in the East Midlands? :o

No, but with a caveat that I used too, but found it too predictable, and often led to fog which was undesirable in most cases.

Sometimes it's really cool and smooth, but most of the time it's rubbish: you standing at platform at clear sunny day, just clothing the doors, applying some throttle and BANG! - fog everywhere!

I have noticed that with the fog it suddenly disappears too which doesn't look right. I do think though that the bad weather is very effective and can be immersive and atmospheric so I don't mind it, I just wish the chances of it happening were lessened.

I 100% agree. I do like the “surprise” element of it, rather than choosing the weather beforehand, It just needs a bit of a tweak.

I never use it as I personally find it unrealistic. The transitions between the different weather patterns it way too fast and they’re pretty predictable too. The fog transition is also broken so it’ll either appear or disappear out of the blue.

I do, but the values really need to be tweaked because as it is it is definitely biased towards ever-worsening weather.

I hardly use dynamic weather due to most of the reasons already mentioned such as it mostly ends up as thunderstorms. However, I did use dynamic weather yesterday for one of the 1hr 26mins services from Cross City - and was quite interesting. I started with foggy conditions, then after about 20-25 minutes it became clear skies. Then towards the end, clouds started to appear and at the end of the service it started to rain - although was still mostly blue skies!

I use Custom because I like to take the edge off the bright sunlight a bit, and also bring the wind up to make trees move a bit.

I generally avoid it and use custom weather. As others have said, in my experience when enabled it always seems to change to precipitation within 10 minutes and is then very reluctant to chage back. The instances of a steady downpour coming from almost clear sky is wierd too.

I do use dynamic weather. It doesn't bother me too much as I barely get time to play nowadays but for the most part I like it -apart from they're being no clouds in the middle of a thunderstorm

Am I happy with dynamic weather? No, it definitely needs more work and tweaking to get it more realistic feeling.
Do I use Dynamic weather? Yes because despite its faults, TSW3 is all the better for it.

Something has happened recently and has been noted elsewhere in the Forums, specifically the MML feedback thread: Dynamic weather is now less likely to result in a storm before the end of your run. I have gone back to dynamic weather and have not seen rain in days. So I appreciate whatever was done to make the weather more stable and yet less predictable, as in not always ending in a rain storm.

Don't use dynamic weather as it is not realistic. I check the IRL weather for the route I'm about to play and simulate the IRL conditions with the fixed weather settings in game.

Actually use it as default the only time when I turn it off if I have to do a Facebook Group Challenge that uses TSW3 since they have a condition of Dynamic weather off.
