I think they had only driven depot services, so yeah...

Arguably one of the best areas of Scenery in-game is Marseille, on one of the worst routes in the game, visuals wise. It's a funny old game.

I was able to download this for free Xbox Series X and the Microsoft PC game pass store. The next step for the train is actually adding in PZB that way we can run TGV Duplex on Schnellfahrstrecke Köln-Aachen Hauptstrecke Rhein Ruhr Paris Gare du Nord Dortmund Hbf and Hauptstrecke München-Augsburg München Hbf Paris Gare L'est

Has there ever been an instance of this happening? Just because something is made free doesn't mean you're owed money. Apple hasn't been refunding people who'd bought paid upgrades from System 7 onwards.

It didn't happen with TSW2 going free on Epic, although it could be argued that as nobody owned that before it went free, it's not comparable.

The only similar situation I can think of is Rocket League, and I can confirm that no refunds were provided to you. You did get a few tags and cosmetics to show off that you were a player before it went F2P, though.

Though not 100% the same scenario, I have received refunds from vendors where I'd bought a product at or near full price, and then put on a deep discount a week later; I forget what it was as it was in the dim and distant past but it was a price reduction of some 70% so I was rather displeased. In a similar situation (though not with as deep a discount) I received a store voucher for the difference, so the situation isn't entirely unheard of. Discretion is the order of the day, and if I'd bought TGV a week before the announcement of it being made free I absolutely would have pressed for a refund from whoever. Bought a year or more ago, and I'd just accept it

Do people also ask for refunds in real life stores were you've different discounts on products every week?

For myself I got lucky this time but a couple of years ago I played a lot of Battlefield were I had premium membership. After a while the company gave the premium membership with the maps for free, I didn't bother because I had a lot of fun and it was a year later. If you want things early or want security (like with energy contracts etc) you mostly pay for it, although I can agree it can be annoying sometimes.

Last note: also thanks to DTG for this free DLC ;) . Hope there will be more French routes, and/or other countries in the future.

Steam does allow users to refund products that were bought soon before they went on sale, so anyone who bought it on Steam and were covered by Steam's refund policy can get their money back.

Unfortunately PlayStation and Xbox's predatory refund schemes don't allow this.

Frankly I understand the sense of unfairness you might be feeling from this particular promo operation; on the other hand it doesn't take an accounting degree to grasp that a company issuing refunds to a product that has been on the market for two and a half years is, from a business perspective, a very different thing than handing out a freebie. The latter is neutral on the balance sheet while the former amounts to operational losses. From my point of view it just doesn't seem realistic to expect Focus Entertainment or any other business to go this far as a "greetings from new the owners" gesture.

However I think it would be fair if Focus Ent. opened up a list of people in your situation who would request it, so as to later grant you a consequential discount on your purchase of an eventual future French-themed TSW3 route whenever such an extension might be released.

I don't think LeadCatcher was asking for a refund, more questioning the people who do so.

Whilst I think all of us in such a boat would like for it, I don't think any of us (who have their heads screwed on) think we will/can get one.

You mis-read my comment -- I do NOT think the give away is unfair in any aspect. In fact I find it is rather incredulous that anyone would expect a refund. I bought the route went it came out, had several hours of enjoyment over the time I have had possession of the route and hope the people who now have access to the route can enjoy it as much as I have. The company (DTG or Focus) are not indebted to me in anyway. They provided a product that I wanted at the time of release, I purchased the product and that is that.

Honestly, I will take a free route any day of the week. I honestly wouldn't have bought the route mostly because high speed electric trains aren't my cup of tea. It's nice to have it but I probably won't use it and that's alright since I got it for free. Definitely better than spending $40 for a route that I wouldn't use.

That is the only reason I have it tbh. Will most likely never utilise it. My main motivation for downloading this when it became free was so that I could breathe some life into HS1 on SEHS.

though i personally don’t know the exact area first hand

I would have to say the distant scenery of the route compared to real life is probably its biggest fall for me.

though I find Marseille Saint Charles and Aix en Provence nicely done stations in game (something about Avignon not seeming as done right for some reason to me), Marseille station having a particularly nice environment.

All three stations on LGV are pretty good - Avignon's scenery, however, is poor.

Marseille - Aix is probably one of the better sections of scenery in the entire game.

Well... frankly speaking... for the ones who were interested on the route and purchased it,- like me - these are not good news!

So the message DTG is giving lately is, do not purchase nothing from launch, wait for discounts on routes - as surprisingly they comes close to the launch - or even they could be free some time in the future as a gift, so you get it even you were not interested in.

That is the conclusion I came to, after looking what they are doing, now.

Of course if you do not have money issues, this does not matter you.
But for the others who it implies an effort is different situation..

I bought the LGV Route in 2020 when it released, like many others did.
We payed to be able to play that DLC from then until - we believed - forever. Of course, this turned out to be turned over *checks notes* 2 and a half years later (with LGV's Sale Life cycle being firmly dead, if TSW's DLCs are all similar in that sense).

If you went back and told someone who was really interested in LGV at release:
Hey, don't buy this! It'll be free (for a week) in 2½ years time!

Would they listen to you or just proceed as they planned? My money's firmly on the latter.

Yea, free stuff isn't just going to happen. How can one predict when things are going to be free. The only way you could get things for free is winning competitions and giveaways dtg does every once in a while, being a dtg tester or being an ambassador which requires you to meet certain criteria. Sales do happen, but dtg giving out free stuff is almost never. Lgv was only free as an exception for the acquisition

For those of you saying it doesn't work on TSW2, it works for me. I actually still play TSW2 at this moment in time but I have been impressed with what has come out so far for TSW3.
My hope is in the future we'll see more routes and loco add ons enter the "TSW Platform" eg: WCML, ECML, A SEHS Extension to Margate from St Pancras would be very much welcome especially with the Classes 390, 350, and 800 for the WCML, ECML routes mentioned. Maybe even add a few tank engines, the EE 3B battery electric locomotive and Flying Scotsman as well. I would say more but it'll end up being a very long list. XD
Anyways, just wanted to confirm the LGV route works in TSW2 for me and I currently have the Epic Games Store version of it.

I think DTG are actually rewarding loyalty currently certainly on steam atleast. We've seen successive complete you collection bundles with discounts and now we've got the Glossop discount solely for owners of BCC (with the exception of PlayStation because meh Sony is Sony).

I can't recall a period before where DTG actively offered discounts aimed at existing customers only.

    Thanks for your comment.
But please notice, I am not saying everything will free in the future.
I said "...they could be free some time in the future as a gift"

What surprised and disappointed me, was the fact, after I purchased the last 2 routes at launch time, just few weeks later they had big discounts!
But of course they can manage this issue as they wants.

Could is a pretty far fetched thing to apply to decision making.
Discounts - that's fair. They're quite regular (on steam) but for an Xbox player - we'd probably be asking what a discount is.
