Does anyone know why it gets forever to start the game up on Xbox? I have a series x and it takes forever to load the game up, probably a few minutes. Whereas loading a route up is so much quicker
The more DLC you have installed, the longer it takes to load the game. Based on what you’ve said i’m guessing you have lots installed. my Series S for example, with 2 routes installed loads the game in seconds.
My series S with all British routes and locos ( bar RHTT, WSR Class 52 and original IoW) also takes literal seconds to load up.
Same on PS5; think I’ve got most of the content and it takes minutes to initially boot up the game. I think it may be right that the more individual pieces of DLC you have installed impact the boot time, as pre add-ons manager, when you could only have 64GB installed, it was quicker (still took ages, mind)
Although I imagine for folks who sign in to a dovetail account, that has its own issues, as quick resume and online logins never play nice.
With almost every DLC installed, my Series X gives me enough minutes to go and fill up and boil the kettle, pick out which tea I fancy, stick it in the pot, add the water, come back to my desk, sit down, let the tea get just right, pour it, and enjoy a few sips before the game loads up. It's a little faster on Series S but only barely. TSW2 for comparison, with only five fewer routes installed, takes a handful of seconds on the same console.
I have noticed on PC that TSW often takes noticeably longer to load up than it used to although I do have a lot more DLC installed than I used to. I couldn't make a cup of tea in that time though !
Same on my PS5. It now takes several minutes to load up. It's the only game that takes several minutes to load.
I have been noticing an increased length of load times within the past few days on my series x, I wasn’t sure whether it was just me at first, so I decided to wait and see if a thread on the forums would perhaps pop up about it.
I have just timed how long it takes on the series s to get from the xbox home screen to the tsw home screen, skipping all the animations/videos. The time was 26.22 seconds and this was without quick resume which took 4.62 seconds.
Same for me on the Xbox One X. But, isn't this one of the things which will change when the add-ons manager update is rolled out for the Xbox?
A quick test I did just now. 220GB install, 56 addons. Series X: 1 Minute 57 seconds. Series S: 1 Minute 41 Seconds
I was just about to speed test mine when update started for sehs 3.5gb…….and now BML ……..I’ll get back to you lol
TSW2 on the same system, same installed addons, minus SKW, CJP, BCC, BBO, EBG, NYT and NTB loads from full shutdown in 8 seconds even without Quick Resume. We'll see if the addon manager is a significant factor in this, but I remember it loading fast on TSW2 even before that was added.
Right, Xbox series x with TSW3 deluxe and all uk dlc except Somerset and no other games (I bought the Xbox just so I could play tsw3) 44.27
By my reckoning that would work out at about half as many gigabytes as the size of my install, if you have all the UK DLC and the four routes from the deluxe edition. Which seems consistent with the load time vs mine.
I'm on PS5 and have most DLCs, it takes a couple of minutes to launch the game. If I was cynical I'd say the game is verifying all the DLC licenses you hold with DTG are legit.
Its been slooooow to launch since day 1 on PS5 but I always found it pretty quick on Series X. I haven't played it on there in a little while so I will have to check if something changed.
Just an update, played on my Series X last night and load times were just as fast as ever. Measured in seconds. FWIW I have most of the US and all modern British DLC. No BR blue or German stuff. On PS5 I have pretty much all the DLC and loading times are sloooow. But they are slow even when I don't have all the DLC installed.
But given it's consistent irrespective of your internet connection speed, or even not being connected to the internet at all, it's clearly more likely a matter of it mounting each DLC individually when you boot it up. Is someone maybe able to move their TSW3 folder to a 7200RPM HDD, add that drive to their Steam library, and run it from there, then tell us if there's much difference between that and the SSD they normally load it from? I can't test that on my XBox since it's a Gen9 application and so won't run from anything other than a Gen4 NVMe drive, but it should also give insight into where the bottleneck lies, as if it loads in a similar time from HDD, then we'd know that the problem is not a matter of how fast it reads the data, but rather how long it takes for the game to process which DLCs are installed.
With all my DLCs added, it has taken over 2 minutes 45 seconds to load up on my PS5. It is by far the slowest game to load on my PS5
No difference at all on my 7200RPM drive and SN850X, both did it in exactly 1 minute and 3 seconds, very interesting indeed.
Alrighty then, so the bottleneck is indeed not a matter of how fast it's loading the files, but rather the processes the game needs to go through in order to mount them.
