I just purchased the AP Sky & Weather enhancement pack 2.0 and I have to say it makes a big difference. I'm glad I got it.
Question, does the AP Weather & Sky Enhancement automatically apply to each of the routes once purchased?
You can download the manual free of charge it will list what routes are supported out of the box so to speak and also how to add it to routes that aren't
The Armstrong Sky & Weather Enhancement Pack 2.0 only applies to usually British routes, but there are instructions on how to apply it to other routes, such as American ones. It makes a whole world of difference! To apply it to a different route that isn't supported out of the box, copy the TimeOfDay files such as Autumn, Summer, Winter and Spring from the WeatherEP folder located in the AP assets folder and copy them into the route of your choices TimeOfDay folder. If there isn't a TimeOfDay folder in a specific route folder, all you have to do is make a new folder and just name it "TimeOfDay" and paste the 4 season files in there. If that doesn't work, it's most likely because the season files are called something different in that route's TimeOfDay folder. If so, you need to find out what these different names are and rename your pasted files to the required name. If you can't figure what the name you need to switch it to, I recommend extracting the Assets.ap file in the routes folder with a program like 7zip so it will reveal what the names of the season files are called within the routes TimeOfDay folder so you know what to rename your copied AP Season files to within the route's TimeOfDay folder. The only route I have discovered where none of these methods worked so far is Cajon Pass. I hope this helps!
Many thanks for the advice Reef & Blazin. I really appreciate it. I was able to get it working. I definitely have to say, the AP Weather & Sky Enhancement Pack combined with RW Enhancer 2 definitely brings Train Sim Classic to life
What I love about the pack is how imposing the overcast sky looks, and how high the high cloud setting looks (I suppose that's what it's meant to be ). My one complaint is that lower clouds still look like stickers in the sky; they don't look believable in the slightest. Gran Turismo 7 is also a game that does skies incredibly well. It's a pity they're so limited in where they can be used (and that the rest of the game isn't very good).
Also great fog effects and threatening sky. Also a way to add thunder and lightning. You will need to add these effects through the scenario editor.
They're working on it... Plus, I think the cumulous clouds look OK as they are during the day. It's dawn and dusk they look a bit weird.
The method I use to figure out which assets folder a route is in is with SteamDB. SteamDB is an unofficial but trusted site for information on games and DLC on Steam. Search up the Tokyo route on the website and once you're on it's page, you have to change it's website link slightly. Here's the link normally: https://steamdb.info/app/2288621/ You're going to want to change the "app" section to "depot" and then press enter. So here is what the link should be now: https://steamdb.info/depot/2288621/ And in the "Files" section it puts you on, you should be able to find out which folder the route is in. However, for some reason for this Tokyo route it's much different to what I'm used to and it doesn't seem to tell you which folder the route is in? This is what it says for the Tokyo route which I've never seen before... This is what I'm used to seeing, it's what I've always seen using this method until I tried that Tokyo route you were talking about. This is the depot page on the files section for the Granger Heartland: Kansas City - Topeka Route and the top result there shows you where it's assets folder is. torfmeister was the person who showed me this method so sorry to bother you but could you possibly work out what is going on here with the Tokyo route?
SteamDB.info needs somebody to donate a key or use its token dumper tool to decrypt the depot (like it says on your screenshot). Seems it does not have one yet. Use TS' Build>Route menu, select Tokyo Commuter and it will display its folder name. Using 7zip, access MainContent.ap and check the bottom of RouteProperties.xml, that's where the dependencies are listed. Tokyo Commuter depot: Assets\UnionWorkshop\TokyoCommuter\TokyoCommuterAssets.ap Content\Routes\359ee18d-323e-4567-bd32-8bdaa22a8bbd\MainContent.ap Manuals\EN\Union Workshop - Tokyo Commuter Keihin Tohoku & Utsunomiya Lines Manual - EN.pdf Requires: European Loco & Asset Pack (which everybody should have )
You could do all that, or you could just install RWInfo and mouse over the name of the route, and it tells you the folder name.
https://www.10a.ch/en/node/73 Great little program. Sorry.... I would have linked above, but just assumed everyone knew about it.
Thanks, I was more hoping it would show the assets folder of the routeas that's what I have more use of finding but oh well. Thanks anyway!
I'm sure you can find the locations of all assets in a route in TSTools. Go to route building tools, Check Routes and Scenarios, then click "Show Provider/Products used in selected routes". It will list all folder names for all dependent assets, but it's not difficult to work out which is the main route assets folder.
