I used to concentrate on one route at a time. I would run any services or timetables in that route regardless of the locomotive used. I now find myself concentrating on a specific loco, and run any service or timetable it has no matter what route it takes me to. I know some people do completely random and bounce around everywhere each trip. What is your favorite method?
I tend to go through the journey chapters for routes but have multiple routes so kind of depends what I'm in the mood for! Been trying to get through the class 20 on TVL at the moment though before moving onto the 31! Also close to finishing PFR and SOS finally! Had GWE on the side with SEHS. So I kind of jump between Journeys but like to play the locos as the journeys set out mostly
I do sometimes do other routes but I mainly stick to ntp as I love thrashing peaks and buckets across the pennines but I do also love driving westerns on various routes.
It varies. I mainly do Journey Mode but of late have been expanding to do layers that don't turn up on that. Sometimes I go through the list alphabetically, other times I decide to have a region themed run, e.g. focus on Germany for a few days. However of late I've been making more use of the Quick Drive randomiser which has actually thrown up some interesting runs I might not have reached otherwise. I've also been trying to clear some of the outstanding route scenarios. Of course if I buy a new route I will tend to focus on that for a few days before going back to the above. Having just added BCC, LIRR and Lubeck from the Humble Bundle and folded to buy Glossop, they will be my focus for the next few days.
I used to concentrate on a specific loco while playing in the past, but I was switching routes every couple of days to do something different and was sticking with it for a couple of days until another switch or switch back to previous route. However, for some time I've been doing journeys first (in TSW2), because otherwise I needed to repeat scenarios & services I already had done when I wanted to finally check the journeys. In TSW3 I can never remember where the journeys are located (as I play it much less than TSW2), so I choose a route and a loco and do a service that may interest me picking it by its length and time of day.
Fairly certain things were changed so that if you run a scenario that's part of Journey Mode, then it gets ticked off. Timetable runs still don't though.
I tend to move around from route to route and loco to loco. Sometimes I put myself into "driver mode'"and operate the train as realistically as possible without relying on the HUD...other times I prioritize the "kinetic experience" and rely on HUD info to keep the train on the rails and obeying signals while enjoying the run through strategically placed cameras, e.g. on the roof of the loco facing the rear of the train, between two intermodal cars or on the roof of a passenger car or an intermodal container in the middle of the train.
I tend to pick a train and see where I can run it. Enjoying TVL at the moment but switch to others fairly frequently. Prefer a diesel to electric but at the end of the day, I just like driving trains
I’ll usually be in the mood for a country and then a service style (express, stopping, or freight). I jump around on different routes and rolling stock to match that vibe. My favorite services tend to fall between express and stopping. Victoria to Brighton, St Pancras to Faversham, and all the DB Regional Express services would be good examples.
I tend to play a different route each time depending on my mood and how much time I have. Although if it is a new route then that gets a few runs. I have just bought Bremen (a very nice route) so that alongside Glossop will get some attention for the next few days.
If a great route enters my collection and I get captivated by it or by a specific loco then I tend to play mainly in that route but with occasional dips into my collection, which could take me to pretty much anything I own. If I haven’t recently obtained such a route then I revert to playing a good selection from all my routes and with many different trains. I will always have my favourites which I will go to more often and some content that hardly gets a look in but there’s no real desire or need to stick with a route just because it is my latest purchase, or to not play older stuff just because I’ve played it loads before. I don’t feel the need to get an equal amount of money’s worth out of everything.
Depends on the day of the week. On Fridays I run F40PH’s all day. F40PH Fridays. The sabbath day for F40PH fans.
Having acquired no less than four new routes yesterday with Humble plus Glossop, did a whistle stop tour of three of them yesterday evening. Later on today, want to test out a theory on Glossop (re how not to have the AI take over while changing ends) then saddle up BCC to check out what’s been fixed since my previous refunded brief ownership.
There is no pattern to my play whatsoever other than the fact that in TSW I play mostly modern German Routes (I love trying to drive hudless with PZB… and generally failing) and London Commuter + South Eastern Highspeed. Sometimes I don’t even know what I‘ll play until I get to the menu. I prefer scenarios and when I‘ve run out will just pick random timetables. Never touch journey mode. In TSC, despite having a large collection of routes from various countries, I now focus just on the uk and have been building up my content to be able to get the most out of workshop scenarios and their sometimes horrendous lists of dependencies. This does have the benefit that in TSC, I never have big empty stations. This sale has cost a lot, but I think I now have all necessary requirements for all the scenarios I have. At least with a bit of help from the Locoswap Tool. So in short - Pretty random across both Sims.
Someone suggested for Glossop (may have been Dadrail) to straight away go down the other end and sit in the drivers seat. It certainly seems to work but all the running around makes you late!
Usually I just focus on a certain route (like now linke rheinstrecke) till I complete the journey on them. But usually I do it by era, start off at the earliest route from that region (like sos for the u.k. for example) And work my way up to the most recent (like glossop rn)
Yes that’s what I’m going to try, change ends before opening the doors so when I drop back in the game, in pole position to not get kicked out by the AI.
(In TSC, but anyway) Good question! I find that it takes a wee bit of time to learn ins and outs of a loco and a route, and most scenarios have a trick or two. It's a nice feeling to achieve some level of mastery. So I focus on a single DLC. Usually that means playing its scenarios, sometimes I add my own, especially old ones with many liveries. To spice things up, between replays I play a free roam (on a different route), which is basically exploration for 2x4 hours. If it takes too long, I split DLC. Usually it's due to very many liveries supplied. There are many reasons for this, but one upside is that it allows immersion, and when moving on, it's always nice to enjoy the new environment.
I bounce around depending on what catches my eye. If there was an interesting route released recently, I tend to run that more than other routes, but most of the time I look at the route list and either choose one and go from there, or exit TSW entirely and do something else.
I focus on one route for a while (currently been on SEHS for the past 2-3 months). I will only change the route I drive in if I get bored. With locos it depends because some routes I tend to stick with the same loco whilst on others I switch between them all.
I tend to change up my routes and locos quite often. I tend to have phases of enjoying German, American and British content (the latter is currently the case), but there’s also a chance I might spontaneously play a route I haven’t touched in months.
