I'm trying to add Km posts on a european route - is there a way to work out how apart to place them.

I prefer to not just place them randomly.

The track select tool measures the distance and displays it at the bottom of the screen

I have never used that before - is there something showing what to select?

Peter, the technique that I have used is to set a scenario with only start and finish points then as each kM or Mile passes (countsdown) go into editor and put in a kM/milepost it's accurate to a couple of metres BUT you have to stay alert!

Peter, do you know how to change the speed on a section of track?

If so it's the exact same select tool you use to do that, I'm on my phone right now so can't do a screenshot for you unfortunately.

I tried clicking on the Tape Measure and it only counts from where I click the mouse until I let go in a straight line.

I have looked at track properties in the past to change speed/electrics on a section of track - does that also show distance?

    Use the "Select" mode

Click on the rail and move in one of the directions - distance at the bottom.
