Changes from the current route Electrification extended to the end of the route Potential extension of the route to Didcot Parkway or further Elizabeth line portal (potentially Paddington Liz line station) Potentially Heathrow, Windsor, Marlow, Henley and Greenford branches Services IET Express (Class 800) Operate express services to various destinations eg. cardiff, swansea, pensance etc approx 8 tph Closely related to the Class 395 Bi-mode (diesel and Electric) Top speed 125/140 MPH 2. Class 387 Stopping and occasional express services to Reading, Maidenhead, Didcot parkway etc Heathrow express services Already in game from London commuter Bi-mode (third rail and OHLE) Top speed: 110 Mph 3. Class 345 (Elizabeth line) Operates Elizabeth line services from the Core to Reading and Heathrow High frequency metro Opportunity for extending into the core Route could either start at Acton Mainline (First station after the core) or Paddington (last station in the core) Can go down to Heathrow or stop at Hayes and Harlington if the Heathrow branch is not in game 6. Class 166 Networker Already in the game Run Greenford, windsor etc shuttles Occasionally runs stopping through services to the end of the branches Diesel Hydraulic 5. Class 57 Night riviera set Probably not worth it considering how few services they run Run from Paddington to Penzance 6 trains a week Slow and steady (Don't wake the passengers) One of the last Loco Hauled services
I would say you could set it before November 2022 and you don't have the issue with the 345s, also the 166s no longer work in the Thames Valley, so the 165s would have to be created. Also the route should run London Paddington to Greenford, Heathrow Airport, Windsor & Eton Central, Marlow, Henley-on-thames, Newbury and Oxford. Also maybe you could included the class 70 or 59 to give greater amount of freight locos in the game.
Fair shout! Maybe have it so that the 345s run into Paddington rather than the core? I think the extra stuff you added on top would be nice but its probably quite a lot more work to go all the way to Oxford and make 2 more locos which frankly Dovetail may not be able to do. The 166s was purely a personal mistake; I meant to say 165 I apologise for this mistake.
The original Kuju GWML went from London Paddington to Oxford. Most of the branches are quite short. Also a class 59 is not to different from a class 66.
are they really that similar? I guess it might be that easy! I would really love it to go all the way to oxford but I really don't feel that dovetail will be bothered to do a route that long
but its not as detailed. SEHS has nothing on it but the GWML to oxford has many stations and details along it
In another thread somewhere DTG have stated they have no plans to revisit GWE either as is or by starting over. So further requests are really quite pointless.
Would love this, but Matt unfortunately said on stream that it will probably never get extended because of its age
Personally, id like to see the line extended to Swindon + Branches bar heathrow set in 2018-19 with Class 800,387,43,345,165,66 to reflect the transition away from HST. Though another possibility (as far fetched as it is) could be to do a network with the Golden Valley line (Swindon-Cheltenham),Bristol-Birmingham (Cheltenham Spa) and South Wales Mainline (Swindon-Bristol Parkway) with IETs,158,165,Class 220,43,66,70 (+387 for very rare runs)
Arguably the older routes would better benefit from upgrades since they would bring them more inline with the more modern routes which increases enjoyment of the routes.
You forgot the Brentford and Colnbrook freight branches. Also the Class 165 operates the branch services with Class 166 cascaded to the Bristol area. Personally I would prefer a rebuild and extension of the original and include the Class 180 dmus. Then again, it might be nice to see GWE remade as either fully electrified or pre 1998 with diesel only traction. In any case, GWE requires a complete rebuild as there is far too much missing that will NEVER be included due to the current rendition being effectively obsolete. SEHS has received so much after its own complete rebuild and it would be a complete shame and waste not to give GWE the same treatment. Please DTG, give this route the love it so desperately needs and so far has never and will never receive. Make GWE all that it can be.
Really would love to see GWE extended/remade. Want the extended route to Oxford ideally, but didcot with more branch lines would also be great along with the Class 800. If it needs to be a completely new product, I'm 100% happy to buy it full price.
Exactly, I too would pay for a completely new build with all of the extra bits that we have come to expect. Clearly the current rendition is pretty much obsolete and perhaps it is time to let it go much like they did with NEC being binned for TSW2.
I think at somepoint in the future DTG are going to have to revisit the GWML whether it be further west or over this section again because the demand is definitely there from what I can see. Obviously they should do a route in the old Eastern region first.
I think a redone timetable would change the route a lot for the better, while not having to do anything major. There are times where you can load up the route in free roam at London Paddington and you will see no Hst's in the station, at busy hours. I see so many suggestions which suggest a modern rebuilt GWE or an extension, but few to none which mention small changes such as a loco add-on, or more services to the timetable that were missed out. Realistic things that would be more likely to happen.
I believe this route is too old for the dlc and modifications we are talking about here,it would be a complete rebuild if iam correct, don't ever see that happening myself, don't forget it was the second route ever built for tsw and all the technical stuff has moved on since then.
