After reading the most toxic forum thread ever known to man, the shaky hook feedback thread I think DTG need to take strong action and ban the miscreants out right, what they have said is absolutely disgusting and do not deserve to get away with it

Miscreants? How is you calling people miscreants any better than what you are rallying against?
Hopefully DTG will ban people who call people miscreants, it's absolutely disgusting and they shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.

 

Look I don't want to argue with anyone anymore nor do I want this thread to go the same way as the Mml feedback one did, but all of these personal attacks against Jane are both disgusting and unnecessary.

 

JD said on the final post of the locked thread the community team would be looking back through everything and dealing with everything accordingly.

Just let the community team sort things out

Why start this thread ? DTG have said they are investigating it, leave it to them. Or do you just want to have your say but not let others have theirs? Delete the thread, I’m sure DTG are capable of sorting the this matter out.

Fine, but you’re just being hypocritical now as you’ve opened this thread to critique individuals who expressed their opinions. Can’t you see that?

 

So freedom of speech only extends to things that you agree with? Figures, the proponents of free speech are usually those who are the least able to accept views other than their own.

I never picked up MML as of this point, so I haven’t really been keeping up with active updates etc for it. I just had a look through the mentioned thread (didn’t have the time to read 58 pages) but i honestly didn’t quite get the topic or what people got all rallied up for, might be for the best in all honesty.

Both the MML thread and this thread could be summed up by the words “can of worms” & “opening”

 

Now the the MML I did say many time in that forum to talk about MML but all they did in linked to the Dovetail MML updates forum and leaking court documents is not the right. Like this is a forum not a messaging app and if they wanted to talk about what they were talking about they should of taken it to the off topic section but even then they shouldn't of talked about Jane.
Edit: and the only thing is was talking about is MML about the broken updates and they shouldn't of realised the route in that state I just couldn't be bothered talking about the Jane issue and wanted to talk about what it said in the title.

 

Erm, you can't leak something that is publicly available. One of the parties tried to obtain a "gag order". They were not successful.

Yea, I've seen the forums get more toxic ever since I last joined a couple years ago. I remember the toxicity when tsw2 first got announced. Forum members started singing songs at dtg and threatening to start a riot or something in front of their offices. Tsw3 also brought some new toxic members. And definitely with the mml thread.

No matter how frustrated you were or how much you hate the game, you don't go trash talking or calling names. Sure they may not be like other devs or whatever but they are working just as hard and they are human too. Like you don't want the same thing happening to you so why is it appropriate to treat the devs that way.

 

Like anyone, I'd like to see improvements to the games, but the level of rage that some people work up is incomprehensible. Who honestly believes that anything is going to change for the better by throwing anger, vitriol and sometimes just plain abuse at the devs? All it's likely to do is push the devs away from engaging, both DTG and others, and to be absolutely fair, there is more and better engagement from devs and community managers here than most games I've played. Matt has already pointed out that a lot of DTG staffers don't read the forums for exactly these reasons.

The worst part is that there are plenty of forum members, often highly knowledgeable, who post constructively, whether praise or criticism, and some genuinely insightful and interesting responses from the likes of Matt and Maik from TSG. But that gets harder to appreciate when you're wading through a mass of anger, hate, conspiracy theories and abuse even when it's not directed at you personally. It really feels like the forum is crossing a line right now, whether it's trolling, rage posting or people acting like some kind of self-appointed voice of the "community". Would you behave like this towards someone face-to-face? Do some people read their posts back to themselves and think, yes, that's how I want to express myself and that's the person I want to come across as? Are they posting feedback in good faith, looking for a point-scoring "gotcha" or just bouncing around inside an echo chamber?

Regardless, it's not right, and it risks destroying what is good and productive about the forums.

Edit: this community reminds me a lot of the Fortnite community in terms of once then add something everyone complains I know TSW and fortnite are very different games but the community are very similar.

to sum up why i made this thread for those asking for it to be deleted or making it worse etc, i believe these forums can be better and a place to talk about trains etc, but im not going to sit here and pretend everything is fine and dandy, things need to be called out, thing is generic forum member isn't a law expert so shouldn't even comment on a legal matter they know absolutely nothing about, secondly i think it was absolutely disgusting for certain members to attack janes ill wife, again we know not whats happening and should not speculate or even make it worse for jane, its things like that that could ruin someones life, i have spoken on the matter that's my opinion, you don't have to like it but oh well, if we all liked the same thing life would be boring
