I was browsing the internet and came across this page, The Grand Central Railway offers Vehicle / locomotive testing at speeds of up to 75mph on our double track. and wondered if it might be a good place to record loco sounds for TSW Testing and training at the GCR | Great Central Railway – The UK's Only Main Line Heritage Railway (gcrailway.co.uk)
Hi, I think this is a great idea for Devs wanting to get sounds from motive power away from the restrictions of the mainline. (For the UK stock). Good call.
While I understand your point on the upper speed limits, I'm not so sure it matters so much with sound. I think it as long as they get the full range of sounds. The upper speed limit may not matter. I stand corrected if I'm wrong.
From my experience, not really. Some units don't need to be recorded above a certain speed. You would want the traction motor/engine sounds, transition sounds from one sound to another (you know what I mean), transmission sounds after a certain speed and running sounds. Unless they happen at higher than 75mph then that's an issue. But for most units in tsw, you don't really need recordings up to like 200mph. Sometimes you don't really need running sounds above a certain speed since dtg can just do like guesswork using trends and videos online if you know what I mean. It's just running sounds after all that just gets louder.
