I accidentally went too far on the platform once and turned back to have the train on the entire platform, let passengers board, closed doors and wanted to continue, but the signal infront of me that was once green is now red, and when I call the signaller he told me that my train appears to be off-path. I mean, I understand it partially since I went over the signal beforehand but why, seriously why can't I continue now due to a small mistake??

Because you already passed the signal, making it red just like real life. You're not even allowed to reverse into a platform in real life in some areas as it can have serious consequences. If you're going to reverse, don't go behind the signal

Restart or load a previous save game will be the only solution.

This is not an issue on GWE. For some reason, reversing through a signal after an overshoot will make it revert to green! Saved me once!

You can reverse so that some of your train is on the platform but the front hasn’t passed back beyond the signal. This means when you have loaded the passengers there will be no signal in front of you to impede your progress.
