Dtgs Continued Failure Of Communication.

The biggest slippage in communications I have seen is the decrease in general TSW streams hosted by DTG rather than ambassadors.

not much else really, they’re articles when they’re needed + extra, and they routinely show up in forum discussions, though a little too quite since the class 700 ish

Oh, DTG routes are generally better, but communication was better from Skyhook is all I was saying

I'll second this, I can think of another game I have in particular. It's had problems since the last dlc, over two months ago, still not resolved and not a word from the devs. Although, that has been the case since the base game was released on console over a year ago.

The issues that prevent completion of a mission are very frustrating to customers. But you communicate with customers, period. I don't recall much direct communication with other game developers. Thanks for that.

DTG hits the absolute bare minimum of "make vague statements about looking into something that don't get followed up on". That's not something to praise.

Right, now that my GP38-2 / GR420b is warmed up and cruising to Oakville to prove that this scenario now actually works... just wanted to drop in about streams from my perspective anyway.

Back when Covid happened we kicked off the RailfanTV streams as a way to over-communicate and provide as much entertainment etc as we could, felt everyone (including us) needed it, so we were going 4 or 5 times a week.

For me personally (and I won't/can't speak for the rest of the team), once "normality" (whatever that is for each of us!) returned, I personally had to have a difficult think about the Streams.

As many of you know I absolutely love streaming, I love playing the game and I love talking to you all.

But, I also had this strong feeling that rather than playing the released content on streams, I should be spending more time playing the non-released content and feeding back to the team.

There may also have been strong hints from domestic management, I mean, I'm not saying rolling pins were involved because my wife doesn't have one, but, Amazon seemed to be getting browsed in the cookware department!

Thus, I took the decision to dial back my involvement in streams that were not "essential". I had already stopped all my own streaming a few years back (around NTP release I think!) because it was taking up too much time and I was finding it hard to be awake during the day.

Of course, here I am at 23:50 in the office fixing bugs but... somehow I feel a bit better about that than if I was here streaming.

So I guess long tedious story short - I dialled back for personal reasons primarily and to allow me to refocus any later nights on development work to support the team.

These days, however, I have a good team supporting me directly in the Production area - which is why i'm considering returning to streaming a couple of days a week - casual let's play types - and by only doing it a couple of days a week I still leave myself time for anything else I need/want to do of an evening as well, feels like finding a better balance would be the right way forward.

I try to be in amongst the forums as much as I can and frequently write a few posts each day, I feel I'm doing the best I can reasonably on that front given I have other stuff waiting for me to get back to it. Feel free to DM me if i'm missing something though, many of you already do and I enjoy the interactions :)

Just generally on this thread though - I do think there's a bit of a mix-up between "lack of communication" and "lack of communication I want to hear". That's not all the feedback by any stretch - but reading the thread through tonight it did seem that was present.

We're not perfect, but I think we do ok for the most part and JD does a fine job leading his team, there's always room to improve and I know for sure (a *bleep* just blasted in to a 30mph limit... one moment...) JD is taking all your feedback in to see what we can do better.

I will say JD is very much in your corner, literally in my messages multiple times a day about various hot buttons in the community, directing me to threads for thoughts or to flag things up to me.

... and with that, I have arrived at Oakville Yard, Equipment Move is now completable so I can submit those fixes and go home :)

The almost instant turnaround on the SEHS timetable issue says otherwise.

Complete understandable explanation given their, do try not to feel pressured into overwork of course :)

Sounds good on the streams, would that be the TSW general channel or your own one ? I have been recently looking back through your own channels streams on TS and enjoying the content, specifically looking into the ones with the DB 232 something I’ve looked forward to for TSW later down the road.

That's one example of a timely fix of a problem.

And there are others, to be sure.

But there are many more examples of issues that don't get addressed for months, sometimes years, sometimes never.

And things like the NYT debacle which should never have happened in the first place.

One swallow does not a Summer make.

On the other hand, I'd rather just get on with playing the game and driving trains rather than worry about communication from the developer.

If false promises are better communication. The route is still broken on consoles. All the supposive hot patch fixes have not been fixed at all. Like it was never released at all.

Patch 1 only had half the fixes that were in the patch notes.

The missing fixes from patch 1 and a few extra fixes were supposed to be released in a Hot Patch as we were told.

But somehow patch 2 was released and we still don't have the missing fixes from patch 1.

And if you read what has been said on the MML feedback threads ( once you read between all the toxicity on the threads ) you can see that Jane has contradicted himself a couple of times.

So how is it better communication when it's been pretty much false.

I like a good water cooler story but so far that is all their communication has been just stories.

And if they were such good communicators then what about the 187, Cane Creek, and HSC. No word on any fixes for those yet.

Not saying DTG is any better, but I honestly don't take anything any developer says at face value.

I've worked in customer service for all my life and I know a brush off when I hear one

I think Colossal Order has done very well in their community engagement surrounding C:S2. I realise they have more resources and a larger community and circumstances are different, but they are regularly communicating with said community and have released a roadmap for DLC that goes well past a year away.

The secrecy around new DLC for TSW is not beneficial IMHO. Instead of listing something on the roadmap as ‘US Route’ or ‘German Locomotive’ just tell us what it is- or give us genuine teasers- especially for example when said German loco is almost certainly a Vectron anyway!

Personally I’d always prefer someone tell me the truth, not matter how infrequent that may be, than someone making up fairytales just to say something then completely fail to deliver on their promises.

I don't really prefer the communication of Colossal Order over DTG. What you see now is CO on a huge marketing campaign. They are selling a new game and they know they are the new SimCity so they better act like it. If you have seen the announcement "show" you notice that there is still a lot of work in that department. I'm really not waiting to see Matt and JD perform scripted jokes in their livestreams. Also the forums of CS are not very alive and there is very limited communication coming from the team.

I think lowering the amount of streams was a good idea. It really wasn't that good of a look to have every day a stream after Covid. During Covid it was understandable they were not at the office working hard to fix what was broken but after Covid I was many times angry they still had time to stream whilst they just had sold me a route that needed fixing.

Then they emerge in late August with The Next Big Thing -- and the crowd goes wild ... yes?
