It's definitely a classy bit of gear.

The blue & silver suits the Duplex better too.

And a new one, the Le Shuttle Class 9. Like a beefed up 91, the old livery is a pleasing palette, plus the bo-bo-bo layout makes it unique in modern Britain.

Even has a rear cab like the 91 in some of them.

I think they're nice looking. Love the no-nonsense design philosophy of a lot of Eastern European rolling stock.

High-speed trains I think are some of the best, with a few examples of my favourites:

The Velaro is also a good pick. I like the way the designers fused the curves with some hard edges. It's just a very attractive front to me. The only thing I dislike is the hump on the roof further back - the way it suddenly appears halfway along the leading coaches just looks off to me.

The ICE4 is ugly to me tbh, the best ICE train is still the Ice 3 and ICE T

Sure they are and they do fit on Riesa-Dresden as your freight locomotive towards Bad Schandau & Schona the Czech border. Remember to lower the Pantograph at Nidergrund the Elbtalbahn voltage change point. Because you are going from 15kv Ac to 3kv DC 185.5 (15/25kv) is not equipped for the 3kv system of the Elbtalbahn Bodenbach-Niedergrund section but the 180 is equipped for it.
Videos of DB BR180 DR BR230 in Dresden region

    .
If added I can see it coming in with a refrigerated van with Tadgs grain hopper recycled from Bremen Oldenburg.

Agreed on the Velaro, that thing disgusts me. It's basically a fat ICE 3 with a silver toilet seat round the cab window. Lol
    upload_2023-7-16_20-20-44.png
Now the Sapsan, that's my favourite version of the 403. Not a fan of that raised lip under the window in the DB version.

It's quite interesting. The Mark 3 EMU design changed significantly over its life cycle. I wouldn't compare them to PEPs since they're a different type of train, but I like to compare the Mark 3 EMUs over time.

The 317s and 455s were the first to be built. The initial batches of these are quite ugly I find, especially the early 455s with the additional jumper cables. The design was refined for later batches and for the 318 and 150, but it was only with the 321 design that we saw a major change in the way the fronts were designed, with a smooth and modern streamlined front. However it was paired with a Mark 3 body which has dated significantly more than the front, although the Renatus refurbishment has done a good job at hiding it. The 319 is an oddball as it's a bit of a hybrid between the modern design of the 321s and the older 455 design, due to the need for a front emergency door. The 456s were late Mark 3 builds, and interestingly this has a similar problem. You can see in the way they were designed that they attempted the modern look of the 321s but were constrained by needing MU jumpers and having to work in multiple with 455s. The 465s built not much later overcame these issues with a brand new design, although I'd actually say the fronts of those aged worse than the 321s. There were other Mark 3 EMUs but the most interesting one in this conversation is the 442, which is unlike any other Mark 3 EMU. It's as close as we ever got to a full Mark 3 coach in a multiple unit design, but is irrelevant to the discussion about the evolution of Mark 3 EMUs as they are visually unrelated to any other Mark 3-derived multiple unit.

To my taste, any train with a flat nose and any train with a front corridor connection are automatically out of the running.

I really like the design of the 232-U.1:
    IMG_5562.jpeg IMG_5561.jpeg
And my favorite TGV is the PSE in orange livery, I had good memories when I was a child. Sadly the Atlantique livery is gone and everything is in Inoui livery yikes.
    IMG_5563.jpeg
I also find broken nose family locomotives to be unique in its design, I like all of them no matter if it’s electric or electro-diesel:

Yes as a test for Amtrak. It was also sold in Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Morocco and South Korea. They’re currently being withdrawn from services.

Big ups for the broken noses, most enjoyable in the NS & the Slovenian Railways liveries
    [IMG]
It's not as striking as the the other two liveries but I do like it on the Reseau, but also I came across this pic below on a youtube vid, it seems to be the only pic that exists of it, like the black paint has been stripped off the nose.
    upload_2023-7-18_1-28-29.png
Looks good, wish they all looked like that if it has to be the InOui motif.
But in looking around I found a Dutch TS Thalys-KLM mod that I totally wish was real. Gosh. Though I wouldn't have the gradient on the window struts.

I’m afraid the PSE with the red front is photoshopped I’ve never seen that before but if you have the link of the video I’d like to see it. We use to have back in the days some beautiful special liveries but now it’s gone except some Disneyland one. On the Thalys it used to have nice Tintin & Milou or Disney livery it was neat !

    The Tintin spread does the Thalys Duplex wonders over the base, the all ruby front is pretty uninteresting. But here's the video;
Thin on the ground, it doesn't even mention the picture BUT I found the source, you're right it is photoshop, I thought it was odd only one pic exists of it...

    Fairy Queen

    Fairy Queen.jpg

Owned & operated by the East Indian Railway Company from 1853 to 1910s. Had a colorful career by being the loco. to pull the first train in East India between Howrah & Raniganj. Converted to Broad gauge in the late 19th century & spent the rest of her days as a steam shunter. Came under the possession of Indian Railways after independence. Her historic value was recognized so she was preserved & restored. Now she pulls excursions between New Delhi & her workshop at Rewari on independence day & republic day.

Also, it's the basis of 'Rajeev' in Thomas & Friends :D

Here are some beautiful german trains (my opinion)

    Class 403, 3rd Gen Intercity-Express
    ICE3.jpg

Class 407, 3rd Gen Intercity-Express, Siemens' new Velaro design
    ICE3VelaroD.jpeg

Class 182 "Taurus", beautiful musical scale on departure:
    Taurus.jpg

Class 423, basically the "default train" in DB S-Bahn traffic
    423SBahn.jpg

Class 4110, Stadler KISS, 2nd Gen Intercity
    StadlerKISS.jpg

There are some more but there is a limit of 5 images per post and I don't want to flood this thread so let it be like this, shall we? :D

This one is also known as ÖBB Baureihe 1016/1116 which runs SKA Linke Rheinstrecke SFS Hannover-Würzburg the whole name of Kassel-Würzburg by running sleeper train duty Würzburg to Aachen both ways

This might be where we disagree;- bar Azumas and 91s, 390s are arguably the best looking trains

I agree Azumas and 91s are the best looking but not followed by the 390s any day of the week.

I don't mind the Avanti livery (unless there's some version that I haven't seen that is terrible), the worst of the mainlines has to be East Coast (the dull/dirty light grey with the fuschia stripe)

    Please

    Use

    Punctuation.

Your verbal-diarrhea word-salad method of posting is especially ironic because you say you are trying to be "technically accurate" but just end up being even more confusing to those who don't know what the hell you're talking about. You go to the extent of saying "the whole name of Kassel-Wurzburg" but don't put any commas to break it up so it combines with SKA and Link Rheinstrecke (I assume you mean SKA as in Schnellfahrstrecke Koln-Aachen but then you say SFS and I assume that means Schnellfahrstrecke) to make some uber-route that teleports around Germany and makes no sense.

I'm sure you'll reply to this by saying "thanks for letting me know" but you've been told this many times before and yet you still haven't changed, so it obviously isn't sinking in.

Yes that East Coast livery was horrible. I never particularly liked the VTEC livery but it was a country mile better than what it preceeded.

It suits the green with the small yellow face more imo. But the big yellow & green ain't bad.

    Oh yeah going back to the 460 facelift, here's something I made, behold the '460/2';
    Class460a.png
Tidier, smaller, dynamic light formation, less waste around the upper window trim, simplified chin fairing, easier access to the coupling, and removal of the silver band to make it cleaner. Something along those lines, that's how I'd improve it, whilst retaining some of the original character.
    Class458a.png
And as a bonus, that's how I'd revamp the 458/0. In-line conventional light formation to compliment the flat face, black door stripe to match the side window aesthetic, even more so with the newly rounded corners on the front windows. Refined chin, looking less awkward and removed the ill fitting rectangular side cab window to simplify the silhouette. And just like the 460, got rid of the superfluous silver piece on the forehead.

I know it's much more minor than my changes but actually makes it look much more respectable.

I would have to go with the LNER A4 with and without the side valances, LMS Princess Royal and my favourite steam locomotive class - The BR Standard Class 7

Planting these hot bits of gear.
Desiro Lastochka for RZD, big round head, stylish lights, wide rigid desiro body and a handsome livery, plus the hazard orange chin makes it pop.

    Next a German piece.
Cordia Br 1440. Might be divisive but it's a weirdly good looking unit, good balance and it looks rather smart in the DB bwegt livery.
    ... also the HLB livery.

    Carrying on.
Another Desiro, Br 462. Got that same charm as the Lastochka, only slimmer & taller, looking more futuristic with the headlights. Looks good in the RRX livery (orange nose only) but even better in the traffic red imo, lets the body do more of the talking.

Not as good as the Gresleys but better looking than most southern, GW, LMS and other Std designs.

Bears more than a passing resemblence to the NSW Government Railways C38 Pacifics (specifically the first 5 streamlined ones) albeit with a slightly more Art-Deco style

No offense, but C38 looks like engineers saw the 611 & wanted to build something like it but when they went to the executives to ask for the budget, they got half of what they asked for... :D

Well, not 611 herself, because she wasn't built until 1950, but perhaps one of her sisters (The first group, J-class 600-604, were delivered in 1941. The next batch was built in wartime and so didn't have streamlining, until it was added after the war.)

When I see that the first thing that comes to mind is Emily.

I like the unique design of the large wheel.
