Today I just bought Train Sim World 3. I started the tutorial part of the game, and managed to get through the Class 66 part of it. I struggled a bit with setting the switch until I figured it out, but that is about as far as I got. Once I'm outside I can't find my way back into the locomotive. I stand next to the door and look up. The reticule is a white dot. But, I don't know how to open the door or get up the ladder. Pressing Y or A or any other button on my controller doesn't do anything. So what now?
Depending on what you are playing it on be it a pc or console aim your curser/pointer over the door handle if the door is closed and select to open then look at the steps and it should say "climb up steps" or words to that affect to climb back into the train.
one quick way to get back in the cab if you have a keyboard is ctrl+0, teleporting you back into your seat.
How did you get out of the cab. If you’re on Xbox if you press the right stick down it puts you out of the cab (external camera). If you press right stick again it will put you back in drivers seat. In external camera you can only view, not open or close things. Hope this helps.
Thanks for all your prompt replies! I play on a PC with an Xbox controller. I was outside because I played the learning module about switches, you start outside there. I fiddled more and eventually the correct prompts appeared under the cursor: open the door and climb in. So I'm back inside The controller seems to be very fiddly and sensitive. I probably need to train more (pun intended!). Thank you
Thank you! I will use the mouse and keyboard rather than the temperamental controller. Seems to work a bit easier. So now, in the shunting tutorial I managed to set the switches and drive the locomotive towards the wagons, and on the external camera it looks like I managed to stop right against them. Even so, the text box shows a coupling symbol and '20m'? Using Ctrl+C or ControlShft C doesn't do anything. So now I just stand there and can't couple up.... I am getting a bit frustrated... why isn't there a proper manual that explains how to do these things?
For freight, coupling is usually done out of cab on foot. When the train is in position, you walk up to the coupler and click on it. For some multiple unit passenger trains, it's done with a button in the cab. When the train is in position, click (and hold) the couple button. This is common in the UK where the passenger trains frequently join and divide midway on a given route.
The text box normally shows the distance from the cab to the area that needs action. If you’re trying to couple up with external camera I don’t think you can in tutorials. The text box is telling you that you need to get out of cab and walk 20m to where you will be able to click and uncouple. On Xbox you have to move the cursor around the area of the coupling and the click option will appear, it’s a bit hit or miss sometimes.
As said above, use the external camera, fly over to it and click on it to couple - or walk over to it. (for click, i mean use the A button on xbox controller) Matt.
Yes, one interface quirk of TSW is always confusing until you get used to it- those distance figures are always measured to you, sitting in the driver's seat. You could be a long way from the X, especially in a reversing move! As for the actual coupling: Most British and German cars are manually coupled. You have to either get out, or use a flying camera as said above. US trains are equipped with automatic couplers (what in Britain are called "Buckeyes"), although IRL the hoses and cables still have to be connected by hand; i.e. on US routes you can drive into the parked rake (slowly!!!) and the couplers will grab on their own, whereas on most UK and German routes you have to hook 'em up by hand.
Thank you all for your helpful replies. Very much appreciated! This is a great community. I won't be able to play for a day or two, but then I will try again to move those wagons. I'm sure I will manage one way or another.
