I don't use God mode, but when I have more time I will try adjusting the sky intensity as you advise. With the lighting difference between newer and older routes, I'll most likely end up with two .ini files that I will swap on demand.
Fair enough. One more play for you to use GodMode. It is literally a slider and you can adjust it there and then and you don’t ever need to delve deeper into it than that. It won’t break or mess up anything either. I’m contemplating re-uploading the files and removing the skylight intensity value anyway as it is so subject to personal taste. Hard-coding 0.4 isn’t applicable to every situation and was probably a mistake to have done it. The truth is it varies from route to route, even train to train. 0.3 is very much applicable to SEHS, but 1 is fine in the HST on MML. Equally, if you’re in the 158 you might even go as low as 0.2. See the issue? That’s why I designed it to be used with the slider in GodMode
The light intensity should vary with the location of the route, this is why in game Scotland looks the same as Marseille or California. IMO each route and each season on that route should provide the intensity value.
I looked into this and it seems to have to do with what browser you use. The video shows up and plays normally on Firefox, but not Chrome. Very curious.
As far as I know both Chrome and Edge are built on Chromium, so they use the same foundation. This must be something on our end then, I'll relay it to the approprate team internally. EDIT 2: It appears to be working now. I asked our IT wizards and they explained that the way we embed videos it might take a little bit for the embedding process to stick. Also make sure that YT and forum cookies are accepted, that should usually do the trick.
I'm on Chrome, and haven't had any issue seeing either video. They embed and work fine for me. I've got UBlock Origin, and Tamper monkey addons installed though, so maybe they're blocking something thats preventing it for others?
Very odd. I can't see it, or the vids I embedded on the MML EP thread on Edge although I can on Firefox.
Query: I have a LOT of .ini commands installed right now- which ones (besides Bescot's) should I remove to work with this? Or will it just supersede commands like r.tonemapper.gamma and r.color.max? There's no telling what the program will do with the redundant lines - will it take the first setting or the second? I have seen programs do one or the other. Usually they take the last line, but there is no guarantee. It is not good practice to have redundant parameters at runtime. There is no reason not to keep several .ini in the folder, renamed descriptively as I do. Engine.ini.MegaUltra.txt, Engine.ini.default.txt and so on. Same for various Reshade .ini files. Just delete the original and copy/rename the ini of your choice. EDIT: I copied and sorted your list above and don't actually see any redundancy. Sorry if I misunderstood your question. I'd just use JetWash's set of changes separately from any other's suggestions. Experimenting takes away from train driving.
Just FYI; - I’ve uploaded new versions with the hard-coded skylight intensity removed. Reasoning in the change-log - The latest version of GodMode allows you to store a number of different ini files and automatically assign different ini’s to different routes.
I just tried God Mode. What took me so long? I love being able to dial the lighting real time and change the weather - not a fan of the fog; I want to see the route. I just want to say thanks to everyone who put in the time for these mods. Combine the ini settings and God Mode with the MML pack and you have the inaugural class of the TSW Mod Hall of Fame!
The GodMode mod is amazing isn’t it? So glad you're enjoying these and the EP. A fair bit of effort went into both so it’s nice to read that they’re hitting the spot. Just re fog you can add it through GodMode but have to use really small numbers. If you try 0.001 and go from there you’ll see it working nicely, and obviously you add that into the Fog Density box. The video I shared above with the atmospheric drive was using that figure, I don't think you could create that weather using the stock game settings.
Hi, Jetwash. I have put in your V3 Beyond Ultra. I only have a 2070, at 4k, and it worked virtually stutter free with trains going at over 100 miles per hour on MML and at different times of day. I have left God Mode at the default 1.00 and it all looks absolutely superb. Thank you so much for this. Have yet to try other routes. I could not get it light enough with the previous version, Mega Ultra.
Thanks Jetwash, the lighting is more bearable now, only things I've removed from your ini is the streaming commands, just becomes a stutter fest instead of usual stutters, my rig does not like DX12 in TSW either
That’s fair enough. I’m not convinced by them to be honest, but I tried with and without and didn’t see much difference whereas some people have reported it being much better. The mysteries of IE4 huh?!
Loving these ini tweaks! Everything looks so natural. Runs smoothly for me in DX12 also. Quick question. If I wanted to dial up the night lighting a bit, which ini lines should I look at?
When you say dial up, what is it you mean? Do you mean the brightness of the sky, the environment in general or the lights?
Why can't I see the oncoming train headlights, only the light cast from them? The headlights themselves should be bright AF spots, but they're basically not visible until you get close. If this is a trait of TSW3, then I understand. Seems I saw something about the weak lighting. Anything that can be done about it?
It is, and not without the editor sadly. These ini settings do help you see lights from further away though.
JetWash lets call it the environment in general. I spawned into a couple night sessions on Trenton and Midland Mainline and the world was pitch black in front of me. However a night session on Dresden did not have the same issue. Maybe a TOD4 thing. I'm just curious which lines may be effecting the environment lighting at night. That way I can dial it to suit my taste and my monitor.
All I’ve done is made it a bit brighter, nothing more. I’m sure you’re aware, but if you’re gonna drive at night you need the room to be dark. If it isn’t, it’s never going to look right.
JetWash yeah my room is pitch black when I'm gaming. It's likely that the contrast on my monitor has to be adjusted. I was just curious about the lines in the ini file. PC is both a blessing and a curse sometimes. Regardless, I'm loving what you've done here. Such an atmospheric experience. Midland Mainline on a rainy afternoon had me craving earl grey tea.
If you use GodMode you can play around with this stuff as you’re playing. Have a look in console commands - time of day system - moonlight intensity. That’s where I’d start if you want it brighter. Glad you’re enjoying it nonetheless!
This might be a stupid question, but can you use God Mode to fast forward time? I'm thinking of the really long waiting times at Gatwick... but would it break the service completion?
My RTX 2070 does not have Nvidia Image Scaling and my fans sounded as if lift-off was imminent. Have changed from Beyond Ultra v1.3 to Ultra v1.3 and the fans are making less racket and not much difference to the visuals which remain superb. All my tunnels are improved re the whiteout quite dramatically, by the way.
phil.elliott "can you use God Mode to fast forward time?" Not a stupid question. Yes, I use God Mode all the time to fast-forward those long waits. Either that or one can use the time to go fetch the artifacts or whatever that game-in-sim is for.
Will look again. Well thank you. I would have missed this without your prompt. It is called IMAGE SHARPENING in my NvideaControl panel and I have found instrctions for using it.
Excellent, really helps the washed-out quality of sunlight. Rainy conditions also look better. Ryzen 7 RTX 3060
Can someone try Harlem Line from GCT to Harlem and report if they see a noticeable decrease in performance? I'm getting very low framerates using the High preset (other routes I've tried so far are running well).
