This is more like a request to Dovetail Games to kindly have a change of heart to redistribute 'Retired' payware routes as freeware. I have downloaded a few freeware routes that requires the retired routes like 'Hatchet Hill Quarry' and 'Phorum Peninsula'. The freeware routes are completely useless without the retired payware routes, it's unfair that the routes aren't even available not even as freeware or even the payware routes assets would had been great. It's just a shame to see so many routes gone to waste, both the retired and freeware routes that require retired payware routes assets! Optionally, it would be a good idea if the route builders could optionally fix their routes by removing 'retired' route assets and changing them into something else... But, it would be too much of a hassle and not to mention many route builders can't be contacted because of unknown reasons. So, it's probably best if DTG could just redistribute retired payware routes as freeware...
If routes are retired because of licensing issues they can't even be released as "free". So it's not as simple as just releasing it for free, you'd still need permissions if they were removed because of issues relating to that. Phorum Peninsula - was replaced by the Heritage Pack though, and i think it would be difficult because of the amount of content from 3rd parties in that one. I can't comment on Hatchet Hill Quarry though - I don't know on that one. (again all personal opinion, not speaking for DTG )
It's completely understandable, everyone has a right to share their opinions. As for this Heritage Pack, I've never heard of that? Yet alone any download or where to get it from. Here is a screenshot showing the Hatchet Hill Quarry route being required, for some routes I've downloaded via the Workshop. Apparently the route was once available on the Steam store??
Train Simulator: London Transport Heritage Collection on Steam (steampowered.com) - That Hatchet - apparently you still can buy it - Train Simulator: Hatchet Hill Quarry on Steam (steampowered.com) (I found that in a search) - https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/removed-steam-dlc-discussion.64992/#post-606075
Thanks for that I'm a bit concerned about the Hatchet Hill Quarry route link. Fair enough it is a Steam link, but I tried searching for the route in the Steam app and 0 results shows up. I signed into Steam and was able to add the route to the cart but when I launch the Steam app to see if it added to cart in the Steam app the routes not there. It's showing signs of red flags to me, giving me a strong indication it's a scam.
I mean i get that - but I doubt it's a "scam" as it's on steam but it's most likely an old link that wasn't removed.
I and a few others that I know of from this forum have purchased this route this way (since it was delisted I mean), just do a search here for Hatchet Hill and you will likely find our past discussions of it. It is not a scam and it downloaded as normal once purchased as does any other DLC through Steam. Of course whether you choose to believe me or Danny is up to you.
