Today I wanted to make a suggestion to add working in cab radio's into TSW 3! Now, I am mostly familiar with US routes, so this post will lead more towards US routes in general.

Now, what do I mean by working in cab radios? Well, I mean that the radio lights up and functions, but no voice transmissions (yet).

This is the model of radio in the current Acela DLC. If an actual somewhat working radio like this does get added, you could also use it for more realistic running. For example, in real life, the conductor contacts the engineer on an Amtrak to say ok to go. I was thinking that if we had a radio that worked like this, with all of its functions and stuff like that, we could actually go closer to real life operation!

Overall, I think it would be a cool feature to have, and one that wouldn't break the bank for DTG's development team.

Sand Patch Grade has working audio for the radio. It is just random dialogue, but even then it made it feel so much more alive. I really would like to see that brought back.

Even small things like that make big differences! I would love to hear some squabble on the radio about a mbta train trying to diverge at canton, or something like that! I can also record the audio for the radio for DTG if they need it because I have a scanner that picks those up!

That would be very cool, I’ve been thinking of getting a scanner myself for railfanning

You Should! For me getting a scanner totally transformed the experience of railfanning! What's cool is that sometimes if your lucky (and if the dispatcher isn't listening) some crews will say have a great day and stuff like that! You also get to know what is happening on the rails, and you kind of pickup some stuff that you wouldn't normally know. If you are gonna get a scanner, a good one that I use is the Uniden Bearcat SR30C. I've also heard good things about the Uniden Bc125at!

I do think that a working in cab radio could be the next step up in immersion for TSW 3 as not only does it add that sort of communication element that train crews have, but also adds a sense of realism!

Alright, thanks for the advice! And yeah, having that communication element will definitely add to immersion and realism.

They seem to be looking into AI speech so radio messages could be on the horizon.

That would be cool if they added it for an update, but I just hope that it isn't a paid update lol

I don’t think they have ever done a paid update unless it included a new route

I have a scanner and I listen both CP & CN near me and it can be interesting what you get hear them say over the radio.

Voice transmissions would probably be near impossible for timetable mode, but great for scenarios. There is a polish train simulator with working radio for scenarios and it makes it feel so realistic
