It will be over a year, we get an annoucement on the 22nd then streams the following week previewing the new game and released at the earliest the 5th of September.

TSW3 was released 2nd of September last year. Or 29th of August if you got the early access.

So yes it will be a year.

And it is like a typical console game where a new version comes out every year that you pay for. Since 60% of players are on console its a sound business model to make money.

Yes PC users forget they are the minority.

Since you know the whole concept of a business is to make money.

Otherwise it is a non profit organization or a charity.

I still wouldn't rule out a TSW 3.5 with bundle, akin to Rush Hour

Hello Dovetail Gamers, we are proud to announce that the hit rail simulation game "Train Sim World 3" will be coming to the Nintendo Switch family of systems. It will be a cloud version of the game, and will feature the "Schnellfahrstrecke Kassel-Wurzburg" route, the "Southeastern High Speed" route, and the "Cajon Pass" route. We will consider the possibility of releasing some of our popular route add-ons in the future. The game will retail for £39.99, or $49.99. Thank you for watching this Dovetail Direct.

(That's totally how this is going to go there's no other possible option I swear)

    I don't have a bubble to burst, I really don't care.

It's just that pretty much everything is lining up to be a new release.

People were shocked when TSW3 game out, they didn't think it would be every two years...
    No difference here...

And of course Jan or any other won't confirm or deny anything. To imagine them doing anything different is just bizarre.

Have whatever views you want, but this is what it is:

"Smithfield" (TSW4) is in the Epic Database.
With it, there is a Central Europe Edition (Austria or something), a Flying Scotsman Centenary Pack, UK edition, US Edition, and German Edition. As well as unreleased content such as the Vectron. They all have the "Smithfield" codename in their entries.
It's worth noting that these are not tagged under TSW3.

The "leak" from the french leaker indicated the 22nd of August as the pre-order date. As does the 'smithfield' entries on EGDB.
If the past is anything to go by, the new franchise installment / yearly bundle goes up for pre-order pretty much as soon as they're announced... What else is happening on August 22nd? Dovetail Direct.

Dovetail Direct was described as a "Festival of Rail / Spring Summit" style event. What was the Spring Summit? Well, it was a reveal of upcoming content. It also totally replaced the August Roadmap.

Jan's comment relating to the "Direct" nametag was to rule out the idea of a Season Pass, not a big reveal, which it very obviously is.

As much as we may not like it, there's no point talking a blind view of what is happening for the sake of satisfying our own wishes. It's happening.

Yup ,that pretty much covers it. We can speculate on routes from what Matt mentioned a week ago or so about smaller deeper holes by reusing assets, stations to open new places.so I guess it can be interpreted different ways. By now we all know NYT timetable will be release after TSW4 or what ever name they come up with. The ECML with the flying Scotsman showing up on the smithsfield has pretty much ended my thoughts of Bedford to london routes as it would had reused many of the current assets.Even so I’ll take ECML if done correctly. Hopefully this is what ATS has been involved in the background.not sure what route the Vectron would release on but I’m guessing something that would required dual power.

As long as they don't bring forward all the trophies from older content I'll be happy, it would be much better to start trophy lists fresh and go back to having a decent list for each new route and loco.

Edit: I obviously worded that very badly, I meant I don't want to see any trophies from old routes, auto popping because you've done it before isn't fun, doing it all again is even less fun, I only want trophies for new routes.

ECML is nearly as good in terms of reusing stuff, just a bit more modification needed.

Hard disagree. If you want to start fresh, go right ahead. Make a new profile. I personally don't want to lose my 800 hours of work.

A new release, a new bundle of bugs, no fixes to the previous ones. Like seriously... nobody even tried to fix the nr.1 feature of TSW3 - the dynamic weather... but let's throw more broken features into the mix, surely that won't backfire... It's like building a house with stones and mud and when it starts falling apart, you add more stones and mud.

Surely if it's the "new game" DTG will claim it to be and a lot of people are happy to accept it as, why would you have the option to carry anything forward? New game, new start.

If however it's an update, then you would have every right to expect all progress to be carried forward.

I guess that this'll be the launch of TSW4 then, since TSW3 was heavily discounted in the summer sales.

Hopefully it'll include a ~1960s, steam-diesel, transition era recreation of the Settle & Carlisle route, since DTG have built up a stock of north west English assets of this era from NTP, SoS & PF. It's the big one in terms of mass recognition and initially I assumed that DTG would launch steam on this, but it makes sense to hold off until they've learnt most of what they need to know and ironed out the major bugs and received feedback.

As a Brit, I feel guilty for the US & German steam fans being neglected, but can see it make sense to concentrate on an area that you already have assets for. I'm looking forward to period steam in these countries. I wonder which potential player base is larger, so which will come first ? I think that Germans are more enthusiastic, but the US is such a large market, so I guess the US.

Please god no more 25mph limited heritage railways - or perhaps make them transition era with those speed limits, and if people want to drive slowly, they can.

I hope that they transfer all the player hours/AP statistics this time. Not doing so before was bizarre and nullified the whole point of them. At a stroke, my most driven engine became the least driven. I hope they're not deciding what to produce, based upon these garbage stats. (and DTG; I'd like an explanation)

TSW3 Is due to leave gamepass just before the leaked release of TSW4. DTG did the same thing with TSW2 for TSW3. It all makes sense really...

Yeah. And I guess that makes JD the original leak seeing as he was the one who gave us information about the Game Pass exit back in November.

You won't lose it. Trophies/Achievements are connected to the Steam/Xbox/PS account. So, achievements from, say, TSW2/3 Riesa - Dresden will always be there on your profile.
They just won't be attainable on TSW4, under their suggestion, so to make way for more trophy/achievement slots for newer DLC.

What would players think if they proposed the “Dovetail RailPass” at £9.99 per month and you get all DLC included? :o

No way, Jose. I don't accept that in Trainz let alone in TSW. This is a game/hobby, not a monthly outgoing that needs to be added to the household bill sheet. I can pick and choose what DLC I buy and wait for a sale on the ones I'm not sure about. With subscription, once you stop paying everything is gone.

Agreed, the RailPass idea would be abhorrent to most people including myself, but there may be a minority who are starting out on the TSW journey and wish to try out different DLCs without shelling out too much. Mind you, not sure that would work well with Steam given that it leaves the Pak files sitting there, I’m sure that would be open to abuse.

As long as we retained the ability to buy DLC in the regular fashion then frankly I don't care what DTG do with any sort of subscription service.

Doubt it would be aimed at existing players with large collections but perhaps it's a good way to allow new players a route in without having to splash several hundred quid to get the best experience.

Even then I believe dtg let you import your old accounts for TSW3. Why not do the same for 4?

There will be no subscription pass as they will never be able to be maintain it at a price point of £9.99 per month. I'm not seeing me paying every month €10 for a train game. I would do the same as with Netflix. Pay one month, play it intensively a month and dump the subscription for 6 months. They would have earned €20 in one year. Whilst I spend hundreds on TSW3. It just does not make sense

Have stated in a previous thread. Flat out no to subscriptions. Unless the quality and quantity of routes improves. I'm not buying. Even then I'd want a country specific sub. So you'd only pay for say UK routes for example.

In any case, the season pass content that turned up on the Epic DB yesterday was registered against TSW3 application, not TSW4.

If you read page 1 there you find the answer... It's in reality the same system as free to pay... No payment subscription. Confirmed by DTG

In any event, a Season Pass is not the same as a subscription. Probably similar to Snowrunner where you are essentially pre-purchasing that years forthcoming DLC. So if anything more akin to crowd funding. Though where Snowrunner is concerned, I still can't quite finish the last logging missions in Taymyr (Russia). Keep rolling my trailer/truck on that slanted bridge and losing my logs in the river. I should really bring a crane with me!!

Going for Season Passes would be a typical DTG move. It completely removes their responsibility on bug fixes and upkeep, and even gives them freedom to reduce quality. If people buy a season pass for 3 DLCs over a year, for example, then one or more of those DLCs being subpar has no consequence because a user no longer has the ability to refund the poor DLCs because they've already paid for them.

It's a really disheartening path Dovetail are going down.

On the other hand it can bounce the other way. Using Snowrunner as an example, I bought the first two but didn't bother with the latest ones as the maps just got really hard or outlandish.

    Still a different thing.
That's in-game, i.e. services completed, mastery, your profile and stuff. That's fine.
The point that user made, which I agree with, is that Xbox/PS/Steam's Achievements or Trophies shouldn't feature preserved DLC, to make room for more achievements on newer content.

When they read people expecting only 3 routes in one year they must be rolling over the floor as they want way more money from us than just 3 routes worth of money.

Absolutely agree with this, if it is TSW4 then please do not bring old trophies over on the PlayStation, start a fresh list.
Otherwise we will likely see the same issues that happened in TSW2 - TSW3 with unobtainable trophies

Yeah, I have the feeling that if DTG wanted to do something like that the price would need to be 20€ or more to make any sense.

TSW3 is leaving Game Pass soon and we suspect it is because it is going to be replaced by TSW4 / TSW2023 (name doesnt really matter). The same thing happened with TSW2 when TSW3 was released last year.

It seems there are hundreds of DLCs being added. These will probably be the old DLC updated to work with the new version of the game.
