Elite Dangerous was (probably still is) notorious for the poor MP experience if you fall victim to griefers and gankers. Not helped by being passively condoned by the devs as “emergent gameplay”.
That all depends. You can avoid it entirely and lose nothing by playing in a private group with only your friends. There are even large private groups with enforced codes of conduct like Mobius where you still get the experience of a heavily populated galaxy but without pvp.
That's why maps change, loot changes, weapon and gear changes. the narrative changes. Otherwise people get bored. Again I'm not saying it can't be fun for some people. Will it be fun enough for enough people to maintain? You are talking about pirates, space pirates, soldiers, superheroes ... I can see how lots of people wanna be that.
If DTG were going for a big upgrade in the "user experience" (apologies for using management-speak there) then it should be VR over multiplayer.
In DTG’s surveys Multiplayer consistently came out on top for requested features. So much so, in one survey they didn’t put it in the survey because they knew it would be top again and were already trying to develop it anyway. They failed and told us it wasn’t possible. VR support consistently came bottom for requested features due to its very niche appeal.
It's way too early for VR. VR is about to change entirely. What we've seen so far can be considered prototypes. There is a new alliance int the works to support an open standard for VR called Universal Scene Description and was made by Pixar. Adobe, Nvidia, Apple and others are joining it. Looking at what Apple is doing with there Vision Pro it looks like it might even take 10 years before we see TSW VR. Building a VR version of TSW today is the same as building a keyboard phone in 2006
Sorry, we don't need VR. The study which is conducted yearly shows that the least wished feature is VR. Maybe because hardly anyone really owns the magicals glasses.
VR (in anything close to the definition levels we enjoy today) demands a quite high-end PC and expensive glasses - without those, it either looks like Minecraft or is vomit inducing because of image lag. I think the pool of players ready to spend the necessary 4-figure sum is small.
Lol I’m already retired, I’ll probably be long gone by then I think the Xbox is probably going to be my limit for my gaming days, although I would love to try a PC but that would mean getting approval from Mrs 1dart Mart
I’m with you! Maybe a smaller experience/map (training center) plus being able to explore the trains in VR would be an incredible experience. This game is screaming for a VR mode imo. Even if just as a passenger. Quest 2 definitely could not run it though, maybe PSVR2 could, but as stated above, the install base isn’t there yet. PCVR first, maybe 5 years away? I gotta think it’s on the long term track map, even if way down the line.
Gotcha.....I suppose it feels like it has been so long since the last player poll, details can be forgotten. Running these things was part of Sam's role and I'm not sure how many (if any) of them actually made it into the game. To me they just seemed like a way to keep player interest / conversations going
Why wouldn't a quest 2 be able to run it? Assuming if VR came it would be through your system rather than a standalone app for the headset itself.
I don’t even think we ever found out any results from the last player survey as Sam used to drip feed some of the results when he was on live streams. He wasn’t really on many streams this year and then he left at the same time as the buyout.
You’re correct, I should have said stand-alone Quest 2 without PC processing help. I’ve seen Quest 2 games look great, but the sim/physics processing under the hood would likely bring it to its knees. I’d guess visuals would be rudimentary and the frame rate would still be a slide show, but I could very well be wrong!
Giving how some people are reacting to Skyhooks latest announcement, as well as US freight in general, DTG should not produce any US freight content for TSW4 and beyond.
I don't think the issue with the SHG DLC is it being US freight. Quite the opposite. People want HSC updated, and bugfixed, rather than liveries for a route where one of the locos is broken.
Then who should create it? There is no other 3rd party that can make freight routes and there are players who want freight so how should they be pleased.
Honestly, no one at this moment, US freight in TSW is extremely subpar, and unless DTG can do some changes with how they approach it, they should just leave it alone.
I would love to see UE 5.2 support along with support for DLSS3. For me, graphics quality at high fps is just as important as good game play for immersion into the game. Many of TSW3‘s shortcomings are compromises between performance and graphics quality. UE5.2 and DLSS3 would give a lot of breathing room here. If this could be somehow done without abandoning older hardware, that would be a winner too. Although I do experience bugs and shortcomings of the game myself, I can’t get upset about it. Quite the contrary. I am very greatful that such a game exists and manages to stay alive as a business. This is amazing. In a time where an evening in a movie theatre is more expensive than the game itself, I am not bothered about yearly updates in any way. I am very much looking forward to what’s coming, no matter what it will be .
One thing I would like to see is that all pre-TSW 3 Loco DLC are separated from their Home Routes. I would like to be able to continue using the Red DB BR 182 without having to waste a single Byte of Storage Space on Rapid Transit.
Air vehicles: this is already bothering me since the launch of the Harlem line that the skies are void of vehicles. Not every place in the world you will see much helicopters but you see planes and their condense trails. In summer we occasionally even see air balloons or a zeppelin. Make the skies more vibrant with sporadic air vehicles. You won't sell me TSW4 with it but it would bring a smile on my face.
I would be VERY disappointed if this year's game does not include the Scenario Planner 2.0 and Livery Designer 2.0 that was on the roadmap I think back when TSW 2 was still the current game and then removed and never talked about again. It really does need a huge overhaul in terms of UI, features, functionality etc
Is it just me that finds it difficult to search for things in CC, I hope they make that a bit easier.
It is very annoying to search for stuff yes. The UI makes no sense, you could be scrolling through somebody's liveries and then scroll back and get a whole new set of liveries it's so broken
I would like to have it so that we can look up the actual loco or certain users. For example, currently looking up class 66 in the search box will look for it in the title. If it doesn't have class 66 in the title, it doesn't appear so we should be given the option to look up the loco/rolling stock instead
Phew, thought it was just me that encountered those problems. Fingers crossed for a fix/ update to it.
My wishes for TSW4: 1. american and german Steam 2. more northamerican freight, not one route only like in TSW3 3. NS trains at SPG and CSX trains at HSC 4. PTC for american freight routes 5. longer trains at SPG and Clinchfield 6. freight at Boston Sprinter and LIRR 7. additional british modern freight locos beside the 66
I wish that going forward, DTG puts more focus on trains and loco add-ons rather than new routes. I'd rather have each route feel complete and have a great variety of trains rather than having a dozen incomplete routes with hardly any variety in what trains you'll see along the line. There's so many routes in TSW currently that I really wish had more rolling stock made for them that might never come, such as: - Boston-Providence (HSP46 with the BTC-4 and CTC-4s) - Clinchfield Railroad (GP7, U36C) - Sherman Hill (SD70M, ES44AC) - Brighton Mainline (Class 377/1, 377/3, 377/5, any variant really) I get more excited seeing DTG release a new train compared to most routes that they release. I want each route to feel more full-fleshed rather than being abandoned with like 2-3 trains and going on to the next route.
The hsp46 might be better in its own route rather than as a loco dlc for boston providence so there's something to release with future mbta routes. I looked up mbta rolling stock and did not really see a whole lot.
Sure, it’s possible for a new MBTA route to include a HSP46, but I’m not too confident in our chances of another MBTA route besides the Haverhill Line which I feel a GP40MC is more fitting for. The HSP46 is just THE locomotive you’ll see running on the Providence line (that and the F40). Besides, how often does a train in a new route get layered onto older routes that it would fit in? It doesn’t happen much.
Oh I see. Makes sense then to see it for the route. I thought the hsp would have been more prevalent on mbta lol.
One thing I really hope comes to fruition is that we see new, more modern freight train instead of the damned Class 66 which feels like its everywhere!!!!!!!!!!!! Would be nice to have something like a 59, 60, 68, 69, 70, 88, 90, 92 those are what I personally want to see at some point, either as a loco DLC or part of a nice route!!!
I'm not sure they'd have much luck selling 377 variants, as it really wouldn't change anything up on BML. To be honest, they should already be included. I'd love a HSP46 loco DLC though, would buy it in an instant.
