Today TSC (steam) "updated" my TSC installation. It's version 74.8a now (was?). I lost edited scenario's and some DLC that was not installed via the steam cloud environment. Looking closer at the steam mapstructure I noticed a new map called "Downloading" with a complete installation of TSC together with the lost files. TSC runs well from there. Now what is the sense of having two installations?? Can you delete the old one?

If that’s the version number then the core program wasn’t updated. But there was a recent update of some dlc. Seems some sort of file verification happened. I can’t stress enough that having a backup of the railworks folder is a must. As to your question, i’ve never seen the downloading folder thingy before, wish i could give you the right answer in that regards.

I even doubled my backup. Checked the backed up map structure: the "Downloading" map is there but it has no files in it. Strange.

The "Downloading" folder has been there for ages

So can you explain to me why steam suddenly creates two folders with the same content ? It costs considerable extra harddisk space.
(I moved the content of the "Downloading" folder to "Common", so far so good.)

The Downloading folder is used for exactly that, Its where steam downloads stuff to prior to it being shifted to the common folder. Sounds like something may have interupted a previous download through steam meaning it never got copied across. Usually the folder should remain empty unless an active download (running or paused) is occuring. If you delete any active download then steam will restart the download.
