Having recently replayed the GWE scenarios there’s a couple of things I want to go over. -It was nice to return back to diesel locomotives on a modern route (I don’t have MML). The 43’s were particularly fun to drive up to 125 mph, the 166’s have their timetable problems but I still enjoy the commuter runs between London and Reading. -Paddington, Slough and Reading were modelled well with further praise to smaller stations like Hanwell, Southall, Burnham, Taplow and Twyford. However some stations and the outside scenery is bland in comparison to newer DLC, I feel Maidenhead was especially hard done by (both Station entrances are shocking, missing the clock tower just past the rail bridge and York Road stadium.) -The ECS moves for the Twyford and Windsor branch trains provide some variety (Small point: I like the random freight wagons dotted around the map, gives some atmosphere to the route) Overall, GWE was the TSW prototype. A glimpse into the future of what we have today. Unfortunately, as the game progresses GWE will remain in the same state bar some QoL improvements. It’s a shame as even a Rush hour timetable can bring it back to life.
Yet again I say, GWE should be rebuilt with more distance on the mainline as well as the branch lines, not to mention a few realistic dlc classes.
GWE has had a few improvements recently. Well about 18 months ago or so. Those random wagons you see dotted around are new. A few new freight services were added with the class 31 cement wagons for the class 66 to haul. A busier time table was added too. But yes, nothing more will come to it which is a shame as I feel it has alot to give with time and love.
Yes.I agree totally. Hash tag Rebuild GWE. Perhaps also redo NTP and ECW, maybe even TVL too. These routes are really being left behind at this point.
I'm sorry for the side question, don't mean to hijack the thread, but: what exactly is TOD4? I suspect it has something to do with changes in outdoors light depending on Time of Day (TOD). But I still have no idea what is TOD4, and was there a TOD3? TOD2? If anyone can point to an explanation, I would love to read more about it. Thanks! Speaking of changes in outdoor lighting, I was driving in the snow on MML the other day, and it feels like I'm having a stroke: suddenly, everything turned really white and blurred, and then came back into focus. Is that related?
TOD4 is the new lighting and clouds they added in TSW3. They added 3d volumetric clouds, rather than flat cloud textures. The new skies on the newer routes look much, much better overall. The lighting is also more realistic, if a bit overexposed.
The remedy for the 166 timetable problem is to drive it like you stole it haha Although it breaks immersion a little.
Tod4 is the brand new lighting and 3d clouds. Tod3 is the legacy content lighting and uses 2d clouds. The one before tod3 where the clouds didn't really look like clouds. Best if you take a look at tsw2020 tsw videos
