What trains do you have have had the best real life to game translation in terms of model, sound and physics etc?
A few of my top picks are:
    German- Br 101, 401, 612, 403
    Britain- Class 323, 465, 31, 20
    US- Acela express, Acs-64, M7a
(These are based off what I've seen in-game and how they compare to what I've seen online.)

I'm pretty sure the M7A has way too much Acceleration currently doesn't it? I've seen it mentioned several times.

Depends on what you are looking. Sounds a bit off, but the BR Class 08 & Class 20 / 37 are one of the most detailed UK locomotives when looking at stuff like isolating c´cks, traction cutout etc.

The 323 & 465 are on top of the UK EMUs, not that the 700 is bad, but there is only minimal technical deepness in this unit outside of the driving experience. (no traction cutout, haul mode not working etc).

Beside a few exceptions, i would say every loco / train is worth the money looking at the price and what we get. (i use mods). For those working with / on real trains know that is impossible to recreate all function of the vehicles in digital. Its just too much, too complicate and way too many things to be worth the effort.

Currently TSW delivers a very good driving experience with a basic experience in assistance procedures. No need to implement every single valve. On top of the DTG side a very well simulated braking behaviour for all core countries.

  10. The Class 66 from SEHS is pretty good. Dad Rail (you tuber) is a 66 driver irl and seems pretty happy with it.

I would assume the 3 Caltrain locos, the F40, MP36, and MP15 should be close given DTG did make a trip to San Jose for a research trip.

I'd scratch the class 401 from the german section immediately, the sounds are unrealistic as hell compared to the real one imo. ICE 3 doesnt sound that good aswell, especially at 50 km/h.
one of the best is as you said the class 101 (we talkin' germany, right?) and also the 423. the 425 is also not bad, if I may add that aswell.

Even still, there are mods that can bring it more in line to reality.

If we forget about the horn the Peak sounds gorgeous and looks very well modelled too.

The Class BR 101 on the Northern Trans-Pennine route, It has the most realistic dashboard of any MDU IMO.:love::love:

    The DB BR 101.

It was a great loco on release and then cwf.green brought a multitude of improvements to it in a TSW3 patch release. These are all outlined in this post:

    https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/tsw3-br101-changelist.58759/

Very impressive! So many details are just right including my personal favorite: the ability to temporarily disable AFB (and thus the LZB braking curve) by applying either the indirect or the electric brake in isolation. This makes running the 101 on KWG a blast. Running your own braking curves tends to smooth out the ride, but requires the you know the grade undulations on the route.

Those mods are all part of a game update distributed to all platforms. The accuracy of the physics is described here:

    https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/br101-testing-tsw2-vs-reality.39402/

If you are on PC, you can run at 200km/h with the 101 on KWG by using the God Mode mod. Spawn on foot, place a 101 IC consist, set a route, and take off. If you find some freight traffic, you will have plenty of braking curve encounters!

The ones I can think of are
8F and Caltrain diesel fleet because the Devs went on them.

No way can any of the kettles be said to be like their real life counterparts. Not yet anyway!

Class 20 and 31 are stand outs with all their creaks, groans and wheezes. The 37, 40 (oh for tunnel reverb), 45 and 101 all hold their own well. The 33 and 52 I have little experience of but certainly give a good impression of themselves.
I can't comment on any in game foreign traction as it's limited to the odd bit of ICE running where my focus has been on business and not its' actual performance! Do like the DB101 though in game.

I concur, from the sounds and physics to the realistic guard features. It is probably one of the most realistic.

The 31 and the 20 stand out as the best UK locos to me, whereas the Rivet 37 is easily the worst

Yeah it is broken with about 1,2 m/s² of acceleration instead of 0,9 m/s². It should not start like the rocket it is in-game.

I've obviously never driven it but having ridden in a southern 313 many times I have to say that feels good although I'm unsure of the door closing alarm which doesn't sound quite right to me at least.

In terms of physics the 166 seems to be very good according to a lot of people although I've never travelled on them
