A quick question regarding the Austrian route:
Why do you all think it‘s only Lindau-Bludenz? The TSC route had Lindau-St. Anton am Arlberg; and also the section to Rohrschach! We could use the Flirt from Luzern-Sursee on the Swiss section- although it wouldn’t be 100% realistic but it would bring in a. lot of variety :D

Because they don’t work for dtg and therefore know everything

oh, that makes sense. But we don’t know anything about the German route, do we?

Not too worried about the routes, they will probably be the usual mix of “good choice”, “meh”, and “what the f…?”.
I am very interested to know what is in store in terms of TSW4 core improvements and fixes. Stuff like more variety of passenger headwear or additional mastery achievements will likely go down like a lead balloon, when Scenario Planner, audio, steam physics, rain effects, to name but a few, all desperately need attention.

There hasn’t been much speculation of a specific German route. Some have thought the sehs treatment to Dresden rieasa .. sorry for the spelling … which would be fun love the little branch line. Others have speculated routes for the vectron leak. I love the German trains so I hope it’s good whatever it is

Whatever is announced on Tuesday will have a dramatic effect on my future with this game. If it's the ECML, with Flying Scotsman and 800s, 700s, 387s etc then it's probably all I'll be playing for a very long time.

On the other hand if it's something slightly underwhelming like Settle and Carlisle, then I can see myself taking a very long break from this game, at least until a more interesting route comes along. I'd say I'm "done" with the game, but I never believe anyone on this forum when they say that in a dramatic "woe is me" post, and that includes me.

Admittedly though, the idea of attacking Ais Gill in an A3 is very appealing. But not as appealing as racing along the Scotsman's home route.

I still have over 10,000 timetable entries to complete. I’m years away from a break no matter what happens

that said … I really hope it’s ecml so many want it so it must be good

if it.is the Austrian route folks are thinking and if they do it more like tsc and not just the on section of it in the middle even better

The 420, which route is that supposed to layer on when it finally comes out?

That was actually my preferred suggestion (and on to Salzburg or Kufstein eventually) for the last of their bi-annual user polls. It would have been a great way to start another country. Vectrons are also everywhere in this region.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the route from ATS included Cambridge? Kings X?
It is all moot anyway as I hardly play TSW.

  14. I took a break for a year or so. Made the jump from the original TSW straight to TSW3. Perusing the forums has made me mindful that I could be reading comments from my original experience so indeed, it does appear that we've been here before. That's why I won't be leaping in especially if the water is tepid. I like TSW but I'm not a mug. If its meh then I'll pay meh, and I'll be content to wait for that to happen in sales etc.

Hma. According to roadmap like 3-9 months, but all that depends on tsg. Maik and his team are in charge of making it, testing. Also important to mention that they help dtg with their content. If dtg keeps pulling tsg into their content, then it could get delayed even further. If we're lucky, then maybe we will see it by christmas, but i honestly don't know

I think there’s a possibility that we might get more information on Tuesday since they did mentioned that the stream is going to be similar to festival of rail when they announce all DLC that were coming out for the next 3 months. I think we might get information on all upcoming DLC for the rest of the year since December nothing really happens. If TSW 4 does release 9/26. That leaves only October, November, and maybe early December for releases.

So from what I can gather, no major new leaks since we got the Antelope and Vorarlberg route names? Someone posted a few more Tier 1 mastery images within the last day or so, but nothing more apart from that? Just wanna make sure I don’t miss something because the amount of posts to keep an eye on is rather high ;)

Also, we’re still allowed to talk about leaks here right? The Reddit sub will seemingly warn and subsequently ban you now if you mention anything unofficial.

Speculation/discussion is fine. But statement of fact before dtg announces it isn't. Saying something is coming on this exact date because leaks say so vs saying something might come is 2 different things. It's like someone creating a post on forums saying wcml is coming next week to tsw even though it's not on the roadmap and not officially mentioned by dtg vs someone saying wcml could be released

Nearly as bad as Trainsim dot com... I mentioned in their Run 8 section they need to look at adding Antelope Valley to SoCal. Thread generated a bit of good natured banter and along comes the section moderator threatening to lock or delete the thread.

Say what you like about DTG, but you have to give them credit for keeping this place open and relaxed within the bounds of reason.

I'm completely the opposite, underwhelming in my case describes the perfectly the soullessness of said 800's, 700's and 387's coupled with ECML south with it's billiard flat and straight running.
You can't do ECML without a Deltic or at least an HST!
There's absolutely no comparison with the S&C, how you can call it underwhelming is beyond comprehension? One can only guess you've never had the pleasure. The way it cuts and winds through the glorious Pennines, its' history both in with regard to its construction and more recent 'saving'. Its' viaducts and tunnels, the stunning midland station architecture (most of it still intact), its' tricky grades and weather actually make, for certainly me personally, a way more engaging drive.
Sadly nowadays it's all 158's and 66's, yawn but a 70/80's route era would be perfect with 31's and 47's doing the Leeds/Carlisle trains (with the odd D200). You could, should with every get AC electric's, run diversion services over it albeit with dead electrics as they were common in the 80/90s. Then there's always the 'Specials' and for those pick your traction, for certain it's run the S&C at least once!
But each to his own and I respect your opinion, albeit the wrong one!! ;)
Admittedly the Scotsman would be a welcome addition providing DTG master steam physics and I'm in no way adverse to ECML, I'd just prefer it to be North/Scotland section with some geography and topology to break it up. And a Deltic!!

People should be free to voice their thoughts and opinions within the bounds of decency. If they accidentally or fortuitously say something that turns out to be true, so be it. If they breach a trust or an NDA, there will be consequences. So far that hasn't happened and speculation is rampant, which can't hurt DTG or their partners.

I think that we will definitely get a German route, just because there is a German city in Austria, that never covers a German route.

Based on the Epic database leaks, there almost has to be a separate German only route. Also, the fact that a Central European Edition appears on Epic (as opposed to an "Austrian Edition") further corroborates the leaks that the Vorarlberg route is coming since the line spans both Germany and Austria.

It's all completely subjective. For your information I have been over the S & C, I just don't think good scenery equals good gameplay. I'd rather have a route with varied gameplay and traction first. If I want to play a game with good graphics and scenery I'll boot up Forza Horizon.

I totally agree that scenery doesn't equal good gameplay, take bakerloo for example!
As you rightly say varied gameplay and traction primarily do and that's exactly the point I'm making. We've had a plethora of recent modern 'white goods' EMU traction for the UK and it's about time for a change.

Are we seriously having this debate yet again? People will always moan no matter what period a route is set in. You'll moan if it's modern and I'll moan if it's historical (although I wouldn't be aversed to a 50s ECML).
I love driving modern units. It's what I see in real life and what I grew up with.
Besides, you're getting a BR Blue route with whatever JT is making.

Since TSW2 we've had Brighton Main Line, East Coast way, Southeastern high-speed, Cathcart, Birmingham, Midland Main, Glossop, Edinburgh-Glasgow against Spirit of Steam and Peak Forest.
Disagree all you wish but the facts say otherwise.

This, I'm sick of every time someone mentions/brings up a modern route. Someone of a small group will inevitably say the trains are soulless/boring/clean/one handled (like that is somehow a bad thing?).

I didn't say we hadn't had some more modern routes, I disagreed that it's time for a change. It's not time for a change, it's time to maintain course. People want to see the trains that they actually see in their day to day lives, with the variety of both traction and liveries that brings.

Steam routes are clearly something they work on, we've had one this year, and one last year.

The "facts" also say modern routes sell better. Pretty sure I remember Matt saying as much on stream.
Older routes don't have as much mass appeal. An average joe will recognise an Electrostar because they commute to work on one, so of course they'll show an interest in TSW. That's the whole point of the game compared to something like TS Classic, which is more for the die hard enthusiasts.

    Which may I ask:
    I can name I think 2:
    TSC
    and
    Trainz

Any simulator thats the same/samegame/diffrentname is still the same game. GBRJ is NOT a seperate game no matter how you look at it and trainz 23 is the only real one to consider regardless of how many there are. Anything open source dosen't really count as it isnt paid and or is community made.

For sure! I don’t dislike modern EMU routes but they’re light years away from being as interesting as the stock that came before them.

I think that ECML South with an Azuma is the blandest possible choice you could make with that route, especially when you could set it in the BR era with Deltics or the Big Four era with the proper LNER, having the glorious A3s and A4s steaming out of King’s Cross. That’s not even mentioning HSTs or Class 91s as well! There’s so many more interesting things you could do with ECML.

There’s also more gameplay potential. For example, you could have a scenario recreating a section of Mallard’s record breaking run by setting it in the steam era. Ideally, you’d want an ECML route that includes Stoke Bank for that.

In my opinion heres the issue: Setting it too far back has the modern junkies arguing constantly. Setting it to modern has the oldies and fan of BR/Big Four getting annoyed.

This is why in my opinion, we should just split it into 4 routes covering diffrent eras, then, everyone is happy, no?

Or maybe people would rather no ECML in any form. Who knows? Me personally I don't care much for the old set south ECML. I love the TSC ECML (ATS version not DTG version) As that has a lot of variety in service but asking for that entire route in TSW is ludicrous.

In my opinion what comes, comes. Bickering about era to this degree is kind of pointless.

Anyway thats moreso just a general message. If you'd rather keep going, by all means do. I just wanted to share my opinion.

It's all completely pointless until we know what 'The BIG announcement' is anyway, we can argue till the cows come home and are no wiser. I'll agree it's more than likely a modern route and traction.
You chose to engage me after I put forward an alternative point of view to your post so you're as much to blame as I am to having this debate!
As for the BR blue, I've previously addressed this in prior posts and having nothing more to say.

Presumably that would mean Peterborough to York, which is far from the most interesting portion of the ECML regardless of the time period.

I would have to disagree, scenery is dependent upon route, ones like barkerloo are naturally underground so expectations for how dark tunnels look is easier to please. Then theirs the stations they are each unique and you can see scenery details in them. Then theirs the outside with quite a large amount of scenery and above ground unique station details.

bakerloo line is a good route with strong scenery. For your statement to be correct it would either have to be a good route with bad scenery or a bad route with good scenery of which it is neither.

Just my take on scenery, it’s important and for example no it doesn’t have to come out above Red Dead 2 but if we’re talking GTA III (edit: changed from IV as that’s really extensive due to Liberty City) it should be a lot higher.

as I say a lot of stuff with TSW should be pushed to its limits and not kept back for the sake of keeping back.

What I want to see is balance in the eras chosen on content. The 90’s era German content that we’ve had recently has been a very welcome change and just adds to the variety.

I don’t expect everything modern to be dropped but the rate we get historical releases is too slow. I’d just like to see an even split between the rate at which Steam/Diesel/Modern content is released, alternate the era after each DLC. It would certainly be an improvement over the current modern majority release schedule we have now.

In the case of ECML/WCML, they’re long routes which will need to be released in segments. Do each segment in a different era, for example: London to Birmingham in modern era and then have a WCML Shap route in the BR era (eventually adding the Class 370 APT-P of course!)

I don’t actually dislike modern era however I do have my own bias when it comes to order of preference, which is basically Steam, Diesel and finally Modern. I just find the current modern after modern release tiring, give us more variety in route eras please DTG.

We haven’t had any BR Green, Intercity or NSE content yet. Even some vintage slam door EMUs would make a nice change.

Maybe a bad choice, I'd completely agree the above ground and stations are pretty good. I was making the point based on the tunnels alone.
Perhaps LGV would have been better....but then again that's crappy gameplay and scenery!

I enjoy LGV quite a bit actually. It's the only truly high speed route in the game, and the TGV is great fun.
Scenery is probably my least important concern when it comes to TSW routes. I honestly don't notice it if it's not directly in front of the cab, and I never play as a passenger. Obviously I want it to be good, but if it's considered bad I probably won't notice unless it's truly atrocious.

I quite like the gameplay, maybe could have had a few more differences in different areas but if that reality then that’s fine.

the scenery of LGV is somewhat quite off, mainly the long distance, but Marseille st Charles in particular is one of my favourite station designs in TSW to date.

Same here, I don't want every release modern but at the same time I don't want everything backdated.

I have already said my piece on era on another thread so I will shut my gob there but I can't ignore this:
Which is just totally wrong as Posh to Cross is by far the dullest. PBO to York is not only more scenically interesting but also a lot more operationally interesting. All factors combined it is my favourite section as Although York to Newcastle has the best scenery, overall York to PBO is the much better section and get's more interesting the further back in time you go coincidentally.
