I just jumped in on TSW3 on PS5 and bought a bunch of DLC.

Still, I’d insta buy if all routes are compatible and it is a significant upgrade in performance/graphics AND had some new content to show that off. I’m easy! Oh, and not $70! Hopefully a 3 route package $50-$60 and I’d heavily consider a day one purchase.

As I’m new around here, I’m going to be stoked either way, DLC pack or new game announcement, I’m just excited for more content and that the game is improving.

Selectable layers would be the main new feature for me.

However whether I pre-order or not will most likely come down to what routes are coming. If it is something very exciting then I might pre-order. I will be buying it anyway I would imagine unless there is something seriously amiss with it that I don't like.

Nothing will convince me to pre-release lay out cash for an update while all the outstanding issues with TSW2/3 DLC will get either abandoned or carried over. DTG's promises mean nothing to me anymore. Perhaps the new Focus general management will put some pressure on the DTG local management to lay their cards open, so a more informed decision can be made?

Depending on the new features and my interest in further supporting this -game- in its current locked down state, I might be temped to keep up to date at a suitable discount once the inevitable core bugs of the new release get corrected.

A Legends of the Woodhead DLC for Glossop Line. Make use of that Tarped 76.

If it's worth my money and time. Because tsw is the only train simulator out there that has a lots to do, a timetable and is beginner friendly, it will always be a game I support. If it turns into a season pass or monthly subscription service, that is it for me. Tsc lacks in gameplay content and scenario creator is frustrating to use. Simrail focuses heavily on multiplayer which I have zero interest in. Other pc only train sims being too hardcore and unintuitive or have gotten the release and forget attitude (worser than what it feels like for tsw)

Nothing. I'd give it a year to see if they fixed everything they promise to after the inevitable launch criticism, and if they were to have done so, I might consider it.

Nothing whatsoever! I´m done being a paying beta tester, producing videos and reports ("in fashionable format please, so that our devs can reproduce the problem and fix it"). Yeah right ....... Muhahahahahaha ....

In all honesty whether I pre-order or not will depend on the British route and for me not to buy it at all there will need to be something incredibly wrong with the game.

Nothing; I didn't get TSW3 until 3 weeks after release and I kept my legacy DLC on TSW2. Not into the unpredictability and manipulative hype; I would rather see what I'm buying and whether it's broken or not.

I guess inclusion of Japanese route would increase the chance of preordering for me, but as I always check gameplay videos before getting something, it wouldn't be sure thing, either. With the pace of new numbered editions of the game release, it may be already TSW5 when Union Workshop will release their route anyway.

Otherwise, I'll probably be getting it sometime next year (Festival of Rail, similarly like when I got TSW3, or Steam Spring Sale).

Yes! I would be so on board with a Japanese route!

Selfishly, a route out here in my neck of the woods would get me to preorder too—Western Massachusetts, a route up into to scenic Berkshire mountains and Housatonic Railroad (including the spooky Hoosac tunnel) would be an insta buy from me.

I don't preorder anything any more, nor buy first day. I wait for the impartial reviews and in most cases the inevitable patch.

What's the idea behind the stream being at 2pm?
Not a whinge, genuinely interested as to why

On Steam, I'll pre-order as soon as it's available.

As for double dipping and buying the next instalment on PS5, that's up in the air. Overall, I wasn't too impressed with the performance of the PS5 version of TSW3. It suffers from stuttering and fps issues on TSW3 routes, where the Series X doesn't appear to and given the minor spec differences between the PS5 and XSX, there really shouldn't that much of a difference in general performance between the two platforms, give or take a few fps here and there.

Now if the new game gets some optimisation on PS5 and provides a smoother experience, I'll make a purchase and consider making PS5 my main platform for my TSW fix.

Probably so people from different time zones can watch it at a reasonable time for those who can. Of course it's during work hours for some but so that people in other parts of the globe aren't forced to watch it live at like 4 in the morning.

Nothing Dovetail says will make me preorder a product from them. If they want day one money they have to offer a good day one experience, and it almost is never quite there with Dovetail.

When TSW3 came out, i was playing TSW2 a lot, and i was proper excited with the extended SEHS -which alone was worth the purchase imo, its one of my favourite routes. But now it is a different story, i barely play TSW3 right now (in fact, it hasnt even reached half of my TSW2 hours), i have zero interest on a new game. It would need something groundbreaking, or a massive route like the Elizabeth Line, which would mean hours of fun for a commuter train lover like me.

Otherwise, nah, i will pass. I dont even know if i would ever buy it tbh.

Not true. The game stutters on XSX just as much, if not worse. On most routes, the stutters occur around large cities, but the Bremen Oldenburg route has massive drops in fps that occur frequently. regardless where the train is. It's like watching a video on a shaky network, where the playback pauses often, "buffering".

Believe me the PS5 suffers badly compared to the XSX. The tile loading type of stuttering is unfortunately present on all platforms, but on top of that there is generally poor frame rates which make the PS5 experience sub par. I tried a run with the ROG 37 the other day on SEHS and quit the game out of frustration. The XSX is like butter in comparison, although it does have other issues (audio) which have been well documented on the forums.

Not owning a PlayStation, I didn't venture any opinion on how the game performs on that platform.
What I can say for sure is that TSW3 plays very poorly on my XBox Series X.

The PS5 situation is strange. It does run noticeably worse (not terrible but lower FPS) than XSX. Also the PS5 has an inexplicably long load time on startup (like, in the minutes).

I have both platforms and every other game I have looks and runs identical between XSX and PS5, so I think it just boil down to Dovetail not knowing or caring how to optimize on PS5. London Victoria is one example… smooth as butter on XSX, a slideshow on PS5, and actually better on XSS than PS5.

But, on the flip-side the game actually looks slightly better on PS5. It doesn’t have the flickering texture issue that the Xbox has in some cabs and train exteriors. And it also seems to have slightly better LOD when it comes to details like train numbers (see my thread https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...d-blurry-texture-issue-on-unit-numbers.64833/ ).

Xbox also has the weird compressed/tinny sounds since day one that the PS5 isn’t affected by.

I happen to own a PS5, Series X and Series S so I have the ability to compare all 3.

    Two words, Animated Diggers!

Add these to the game, I'm in.

Actually, no scratch that. I'd settle for an ingame store that knows I own all the DLC. TSW2 had a perpetual red "new" dot that was present even when there was nothing new or left to buy. Although this was fixed for TSW3, for some reason it hasn't noticed I own the second loco pack even though I bought the pass and I can see, and access, each of the individial pieces of DLC. My OCD can't stand it.

I've put all my hope in TSW4! Fingers crossed.

I'm glad the PS5 version exists because the Xbox version was unplayable because of the audio issues and I really don't see any difference in stutters. There is too much of them on all platforms to even notice the difference. I even see less texture glitched trains. TSW 3 on Xbox was a major disaster for me. It's only since I have a PS5 I can enjoy TSW3 again. If I was still on Xbox I would have been so furious TSW4 would be released as I never would have had the opportunity to play a version of TSW3 that was not totally broken .

I've been playing TSW since even before the release of CSX Heavy Haul, with the beta version we got to test at the end of 2016, and since TSW2020 it´s the only train simulator for me. If TSW4 is the way forward, then so be it.

If there is a preorder with a discount I will take it. And for what feature?

I'm in a similar position to Vern. I have a list of things I'd really like to see happen on release day of whatever is announced today (primarily all previous DLCs fixed, especially services that can't currently be completed...) - but I doubt there's anything today that would dissuade me from pre-ordering.

Yea this is probably the beginning of the end in my opinion . I will not be pre ordering
    * update after looking at the actual cost for the deluxe version while I’m disappointed on the us route choice, I do think if you like some of the content that is a good price. Is just my opinion

I thought my disinterest was as high as it could conceivably be.

    Then I watched the stream.

Let's see if they deliver the promised fixes for TSW3 content. Not gonna hold my breath.

I certainly not pre order the TSW4. I've already made a mistake when i did it with TSW3. The route selection is somewhat weird tbh, biggest bummer for me is no North America freight route present for over a year since Cajon Pass. The only thing that grab my attention is the Flying Scotsman, I've got special place in my heart for UK steams, but other than that none. I'll wait until steam doing a sale, a big sale before i grab a copy of TSW4.

If I had saw enough to know basic things of setup type stuff had been done and working and no texture flicker (basically if I’ve seen enough to say it’s good on my criteria before release and theirs a treat for pre ordering I would do so)

Have to agree with you on that, only way I'll get TSW4 is either when it's heavily discounted or I get it as a present, same as TSW3. I'm not pre-ordering or paying full price for TSW3.5.
