I was going to sarcastically type "an editor" earlier... shame on me. Consider me pleasantly shocked!

I'm a sucker for simulators in general so I would buy it anyway. But the official editor is a good reason on it's own.

I'm going to wait and see if that winter update includes any of the overhauls I want to see, none of which are included in the base TSW4.

Or if indeed it materialises at all...

    Nothing.
None of the base routes interest me.
I find high speed routes dull, and the 80x equally as dreary.
I'll probably only get it if a decent dlc route comes along that actually interests me

My pre-order will be going through. Got the best section of track in Great Britain included so you can't argue with that!;)

I said throughout the entire speculation timeline I would see what they annouced evaluate the value vs cost and decide

well I’ve done that and the answer to the op question is nothing I’m ready to pre order

problem is I can’t. Xbox is giving an error when I try.

only for tsw would that happen lol

Yes, I have to say I would never have even imagined they'd end up releasing any kind of editor after all the challenges the DTG team told us. Safe to say when they announced it during the stream I was genuinely surprised. Definitely a step in the right direction and opens up almost unlimited potential for the TSW series!

If I fell off a chair and hit my head so hard that I forgot who DTG was.

No particular feature, but a combination of things made me pre-order. The new HUD and consist editor/free roam were nice things, and the routes included seemed decent enough for the price. Overall, well worth the asking price, especially since I was able to buy the Standard Edition for -25% before they sneakily upped the price to -10% on Steam.

I'm not sure, but I've read somewhere that there is a 10% preorder discount and a 15% TSW3 loyalty discount. By buying the Standard Edition you have used up your loyalty discount, and the store will only show the preorder discount from now on.
    I think that's how it works :|

No clue. Haven't seen such a mechanic before on Steam. All I know I was able to buy the Standard Edition at -25% yesterday evening, and now it shows as -10%, although Steam seem to recognize I already own the Standard Edition myself, so the -10% Standard Edition is only for gifting now.

As long as everybody gets the chance to buy the Standard Edition for -25%, all is fine. "Offer ends 26 September", Steam said yesterday about the -25% discount.

I will buy the special edition because I love the marketing strategy of DTG, the good development of the licence, the correction of all bugs they identify and the whole attention of details of the cheap dlcs they make.

For me to change my mind would need a grand overhaul with tons of new features as well as bugfixes and stability and large graphics upgrades.
It would have to feel like a new game, basically.
Also, actual new and different countries. Austria is new, sure, and I welcome them, but it's still about as uninspired as it gets considering both Germany and Switzerland were already in-game.
I have my preferences, some of them obvious based on my profile and previous responses, but there are wholly new and exciting regions left unexplored! Austria is new sure, but it's still the just Alpenland, which already has some representation.

    Features that could help accomplish this overhaul, aside from graphics overhauls;
    • Dynamic failures (or failures at all, toggleable, both on/off and in frequency) so things like brake-checking actually have a proper purpose and you actually have to monitor if your train is doing what you're expecting it to.
    • Different modes, both playable as well as implemented as AI if you're the driver. Things like guard or conductor. Train manager and shunting staff (the ones that would make the hand signals as you're coupling), etc.
    • The ability to leave your active service as a menu button instead of an incredibly irritating prompt that only pops up when you don't actually want it to and almost accidently click "yes" on occasionally because that's where your cursor was.
    • Working and interactable radios by default including some simulated interactions with dispatch, even if somewhat simplified. (doesn't have to be voiced, at least not on the player side)
    • More interactivity with the systems on the train including things you could mess up, like, allow me to forget attaching the brake pipe with all its proper consequences. Don't fool-proof the trains by simplifying functionality.
    • Working on-board computers so no black screens unless they're actually unused in the real trains.
    • Additionally, always make sure you have HUDless methods of seeing some basic information, like stations to stop.
On more analog trains, and even a lot of the modern one, just add a clipboard that has some of the basic instructions for your service so you can actually see what stations you were supposed to stop again in an immersive way. Maybe even allow custom notes on it.
    • Overhaul for your own player character.
    • VR!
    • Multiplayer. Including co-op if combined with the different game modes such as guard/conductor mode and train manager and shunter.
Of course you can think of more functions, but for me, fullfilling most of these would actually justify re-releasing the game.

Nothing in the DTG promo convinced me to urgently pre-order the fourth incarnation of this franchise, a train control desk simulation.
Fooled once, fooled twice, not going to let me getting fooled trice ...

It all looks very promising and to some perhaps even tempting to part with their cash for a pre-launch or early adopter's discount.

I'll happily let the gullible take the bite and be DTG's voluntary guinea pigs.
I'll wait for the release, the reports, the quarrels, the excuses, the discounted X-mas sale.
None of those new routes will offer radically different gameplay from what we already have.
Weather, lighting, draw distance, sound occlusion, I don't expect sudden miracle here since everything still has to be compatible with the consoles.
Save slots and 100% reliable resumes, perhaps not really necessary on the short routes?

The much expected editor will come in phases, and it will be a very steep learning curve for those who think they can whip up a route or locomotive just like that. Just think about how long learned and experienced pro 3rd party developers need to work given the previous very slow release rate? And when there are no assets provided or the present DLC becomes uncooked there will only be a bare baseboard.

Here is Schnauz's usual snarky evaluation:

20% for Xbox, 20% for PlayStation, but further discount if PlayStation plus member and Steam offer a loyalty discount on top of the 20%. Great news for Microsoft customers NOT lol I’m on Xbox too :(

    Indeed, 20% on XBox.

It's not like they can't do loyalty discounts on XBox, the Glossop line had a discount for BCC owners on XBox.

Actually, having thought about it, there's a way DTG could convince me to preorder TSW4.

Release the promised TSW2 patches from a year ago.
If they made good on the promises made when TSW3 was announced, I'd trust them to keep the ones they're making now.
