Will the 700 of additional layers available in Livery Designer 2.0 be capable of being applied to old liveries created in TSW2 & TSW3's beta version 1.0, or are the full 1,000 layers only available to be used on newly created liveries in TSW4?

Roadmap live stream here for all to enjoy!

Timestamped, as it's pretty long, and you might only be interested in particular sections.

I don't believe this has been changed, but tagging in DTG Matt to confirm.

It's more the issue of objective data not reloading on a second run that concerns me, as it does inhibit chaining together a driver's shift.

  5. Thanks DTG JD
Is it possible for DTG to provide a more technical discussion on the longer term benefits of some of the changes in TSW4 that maybe are not so readily apparent? Things like portals etc under the hood that are not immediately visible but which can have a longer term impact.
I think that might help understanding on the disconnect between TSW4 and previous titles.

One question regarding addons manager. I did watch the stream but was too late to ask my question. I play on PS5.

With the plethora of new routes coming, and some like Blackpool - Ormskirk usitilising many layers, will I soon be reaching the 64gb limit for relevant content loaded?
With some routes now reaching 8 - 10gb it might not be too long before I load a scenario that uses content and ai from 6 different routes and I've hit the 64gb limit. Are we going to run into the same problems on PlayStation later on down the line? It might not be apparent now but as more and more routes become larger and larger I don't want it to become a problem.
Apart from that TSW4 has my interest and I've pre ordered.

I'm certainly not the person to have that conversation with (ha!), but I believe Matt spoke quite a lot last night about some of the benefits of these features - can't remember how 'technical' they went though.

When we do previews of content, I'm sure the technical side of things will be discussed. We probably won't go into reams of detail though, as we'd prefer to focus on the benefits players get with the features from an end-user perspective.

That is a superb question. The 64GB limit is there, it's unavoidable, but we think it's very unlikely this will be a problem in the near-to-mid-term future. I have mentioned it to the team though for their visibility.

I do think frankly that going into at least some greater depth on the technical side of things would smooth a lot of ruffled feathers with regard to "Why paid TSW 4 and not free TSW 3.5?" If players get some idea of a lot of work under the core's hood they would I think be more understanding than at present where all that's being emphasized are the gee-whiz things.

Many thanks for the answer. Here's hoping on the next iteration of Playstation (6!?) that Sony get rid of this limit.

Sony can get rid of it anytime they want.

Sure they released an update now so the PS5 can support an 8TB ssd drive up from the 4TB limit.

In theory the PS5 is setup better hardware wise than XSX for massive DLC games like TSW but Sony have put a process design limit in there for reasons known only to them

I will try to help you here. In my opinion, the TSW4 feature that will have the most impact on how the game is played is the Scoring 2.0.

It seems finally we will be able to drive the trains at a normal safe speed like in real life and not trying to adhere to 99.99Km/h when the track speed is 100Km/h just to get the gold medal. Also we can pretty much get 99% of the stopping points by stopping close to the marker, instead of making ridiculous brake adjustments to stop less than 1yd away.

This is what will change how we actually play the game, while everything else are incremental improvements that make the game look better, or give additional options but will not change the driving experience in such a fundamental level.

I was thinking about that too even back when addons manager first came out. Because locos are tied to routes, I am assuming the DLC manager has to load an entire route when it needs locos from that route. So if the amount of layers require it to load 64gb of DLC, have we hit the same wall on the PS5? If bigger routes keep coming and requiring content from other big routes, is the can just being kicked down the road?

I was thinking more about German routes. Some of them include layers from practically ALL the German routes, which adds up fast. Preston-Ormskirk I am not even worried about (its pretty much only loading the older BR Blue routes which were actually relatively small).

I would think though that when they make a new route they at least test on all platforms and would spot an issue if PS5 hit a 64gb when activating layers.

I am not a dev or anything, so my thought may be useless, but I always figured it would be a good idea to include ALL locos and rolling stock in the core game, so they don't count as DLC and can be called upon by any route that wants them. Then the map side of the routes are the DLC. But who knows.

Having loads of content from TSW 3, thsi would be a problem from the start...

Just to clarify - this is specifically when talking about the content on one particular route in a particular session, rather than your entire back-catalogue. It would only be when the content you're 'loading' into the route in a session (core route + layers) exceeds 64MB. We don't envisage that to be an issue with any of the routes within TSW4.

I see, thank you. So even if I redownload every TSW 3-route after release of TSW4, they would be visible and playable?

Just wondering: on the PS5, are we able to transfer progress from TSW3 PS4 version to TSW4 PS5 version?

I got a question about the pc editor, I know it’s for pc obviously but will console players be able to download the maps and locomotives they make, if that’s not the case it would make a good idea to spread diversity and let console players have something to be really excited for

Unfortunately not a launch. The first problem is that you can't upload the modded package to the console, and if you found a way you could potentially upload a malicious package.

You can bet DTG would love to find a way to do it, but no guarantees.

You just use the same Dovetail Live Login details and that's it. All progress information is stored in the cloud Live account within the same eco system.

But then why is PS4 to PS5 progress transfer not possible?

Snowrunner have found a way to do it, so hopefully it can eventually work for TSW. In Snowrunner you can download player created maps and trucks via an in-game mod browser.

Will TSW 2 content get TSW 3 or TSW 4 treatment at some point or are you not looking to upgrade older content to include advanced features at all? Thanks

  29. From the faq-

    "
What is considered a legacy Train Sim World game?
Legacy Train Sim World games are those that are no longer being updated. This includes…

    • Train Sim World 2020
    • Train Sim World 2
    • Train Sim World 3"
    Also from faq-

    "
Will Train Sim World 3 continue to receive updates?
There will be a short window after the release of Train Sim World 4 where Train Sim World 3 will receive updates focused on improvements to tutorials, scenarios and the Trenton – New York timetable. After this time, there will be no further updates. "

Thanks, but I mean the content, not the games. I'm pretty sure that when TSW 3 came out, they said that eventually they might try to get the new features applied to all the older content.

Do we know if TSW4 content on release and future content will aldo have TSW2 and TSW3 features as well as the new features?

  31. This might provide some insights for you:

Train Sim World Add-On Guide & Acronyms : Dovetail Support (freshdesk.com)

In short, older (current) content will be as it is now.

Will you finally be adding the blood and custard coaches along the conflat containers in TSW4, what about the much needed fix for GWE HST wipers? Lol

No. There are no plans. It's a manual process for each route and loco which takes a long time

Don't mean to be dense but is TSW running on the same engine as TSW2/TSW3 were?

No, IIRC TSW 2 was 4.23, TSW3 4.26 and for TSW4 they have 4.26 with some features backported from the 4.27 and UE5 branches.

Will 'The Editor' ever make it over to console, or will it be entirely PC based?.

Dtg have aspirations to, but there is no guarantee. Unreal engine is a pc platform and from what I've gathered from other people, the consoles would not be able to use the editor. Plus, it would be easier to make stuff using a keyboard and mouse compared to a console controller. However, distribution of content made by pc users could be downloaded on consoles but that is complicated.

Looking forward to using Formation Designer.

In part 1 of the Roadmap, there was mention of not being able to mismatch braking systems. Does this mean vacuum braked (fitted) and non-vacuumed braked (unfitted) stock will not be compatible?

I'm hoping it will be possible to create part-fitted trains, with the vacuum stock immediately behind the loco and unfitted stock at the back, or create an unfitted train with a mix of vacuum and non-vacuum braked stock.

Adding Elmont-UBS arena would require rebuilding the Main Line. The entire configuration of Queens and Nassau interlockings was altered, a third track between Floral Park and Hicksville was installed and a new interlocking called Park was installed as well. Additionally, almost all of the Main Line stations were rebuilt from scratch, all grade crossings were eliminated and a new type of signal called reduced aspect signals were put in to replace the position lights.

Adding Grand Central would be even more challenging as they would have to completely redo Harold interlocking from scratch, build new assets for GCB tunnels and the station and program another new type of signal only found on the Grand Central Branch.

Adding the M9 would be practically the same experience as the M7, and in reality they are sub-par to the M7s.

The Port Wash branch would be nice, it's a nice branch to operate in real life but again, it's pretty much the same experience operating an EMU commuter service.

What the LIRR really needs is the Oyster Bay branch with the DE/DM30AC's to add the variety of operating diesel commuter service. The Oyster Bay branch is a nice scenic branch and soon to be one of the very few portions of the railroad with automatic wayside signals remaining.

PTC in the U.S. is extremely complex and is not standard between railroads. Additionally, it would need to be integrated with other safety systems such as Automatic Speed Control, which is also very complex.

I'm pretty sure what was meant was that vacuum and air brakes won't work on the same train. Only the type fitted to the loco will have train brakes.

I can't find much information about the new " suspension " feature, but, when driving the Acela train set on BPE yesterday, I experienced quite a lot of vertical and lateral movement in the cab. I'm wondering what this new feature will add to the present physics paradigm.

Basically at junctions, they added like dips and the train will react realistically. That's what they mentioned in the roadmap.

Thanks for that, but I'll check it out when I get it on my machine. Of course it won't affect the Acela. If it works as advertised, it will be a marked improvement over the current, often silent running over crossovers.

You are correct. They are both 4.26. Dtg are using certain things from ue5, but they were still the same ue4 version
