Yeah, but it was Austrian IC with a Taurus (swapping to diesel locos at Lindau, then to a 101 at Ulm or sometimes Stuttgart)
If it was Austrian it would have been an EC. According to the timetable above, both EC 99 (OBB) and IC 118 (DB) run over this line
No, it was classified as IC for some reason (the somewhat circuitous route I think): this is its formation for about the last decade https://www.vagonweb.cz/razeni/vlak.php?zeme=OeBB&kategorie=IC&cislo=118&nazev=Bodensee&rok=2018
Interesting. It may be a contractual arrangement, since "Intercity" is a DB trademark (BR had to pay them to use it). Possibly OBB took over operation of what had once been a DB service.
Are you sure Intercity is a trademark? Cause Switzerland has Intercitys, Austria has them, the Netherlands also I guess?
I think it's due to certain criteria - the criteria to be classed as EC used to be quite high (when these were more dominant in Western Europe), and trains that didn't fit this would be classed as IC regardless of whether they crossed borders. Sometimes it was because they stopped too frequency (the Amsterdam - Berlin trains are classed as IC), or an indirect route, or a lack of catering car (which this does lack, but didn't always). OEBB do use IC for some of their domestic services so it wouldn't be a trademark thing: https://www.vagonweb.cz/razeni/razeni.php?zeme=OeBB&kategorie=IC&rok=2023
Whether it's DB or OEBB rolling stock doesn't determine whether it's EC though. The nature of EC services means you see Austrian stock in Germany, German stock in Austria etc. I think this was a quality thing.
IC is used in Austria for services formed of Locomotive and cars (1st and 2nd class). EC is an international Category.
That's rather confusing, since all long-distance services by the OBB are loco hauled (they don't have an equivalent to the ICE EMUs). That includes the Railjet Expresses and the Nightjets, which are all Taurus + coaches. Historically, at least, the Intercity was launched by DB in 1971 as the domestic equivalent of the international TEE: all first-class, high speed (for the time), high standard of luxury; designed for business travelers as an alternative to short-haul air travel. A businessman could get from Bonn to Munchen in the morning, have his meeting, and be home for dinner. When the TEE passed out of existence in the 1980s, some of its old services were picked up by various RR and dubbed "Eurocity." Of course, the old 1st-class-only rule died long ago.
Railjets aren't loco-haiuled but they are fixed sets that the ICs aren't. They work like units in that they work in multiple. It has replaced much of the IC and EC services, and will eventually replace pretty much all of it. It's their answer to the ICE brand essentially.
I think the big pro of these Railjet sets are that you still can easily swap e.g. the loco. If the ICE4 is not working, you got more of a serious problem than with a loco hauled train (same difference between ICE1 and 4)
This. There are also new Railjets under construction (Ralijet 2, Siemens Viaggio Low floor, also as Nightjet-variant).
Matt metioned SBB RABe 523 will run on the route. Does anyone know what type of service pattern are we looking at and stations it serves
The only fitting line that comes to my mind would be the swiss S7 from Romanshorn in Switzerland to Lindau via Bregenz. As far as I know this line is only extended to Austria on weekends as REX. And it should be operated by Thurbo ( don't know whether they use RABe 523) . According to "SCOTTY" (our journey-planning-app in Austria) the service is operated every two hours with stops only at Lindau and Bregenz. As I still dont' know in which year the route is set, so I also don't know how it is implemented into the game.
That’s the same one I saw also. The route is set at 2019. So maybe back then it ran more often and weekdays
My understanding is a different one. The RJs are loco hauled, as they are coupled to the consist with a standard screwed coupling. This is different to the (eg) ICE2. The power car of this train is per definition a power car and not a locomotive. BTW, as far as I have learned, in Europe loco hauled trains can only be certified to a max speed of 230kmh.
Pure typo! "Railjets aren't loco-haiuled" was meant to say "Railjets are loco-hauled". Quite an important error!
clearly SBB RABe 523 at lindau HBF. Not sure what line it is but Matt mentioned it does several stops
This goes all the way to Dortmund as EC118/119 Bodensee service via Wuppertal-Hagen on RRO. Basically this service must run Hagen-Wuppertal on RRO and Lindau-Feldkirch
Will we need Luzern to Sursee to get the SBB RAB layer or do we reckon they will be included? If the former, guess I’ll be picking up the Rivet route in the next sale!
French TGV 330kmh. It's treated as a push pull config. ICE 1 and 2 are 280kmh, again both push pull config.
It's a route I really enjoy despite being a bit lacking in traffic. It really needs some alternative AI rolling stock or something to populate the various freight yards on the route.
definitely your opinion! It’s a pretty cool route but has some issues like the lighting, the safety systems and especially tha lack of traffic. Otherwise a pretty cool route I have driven up and down
According to roadmap What kind of operations can players expect when driving the locomotive? "This locomotive is primarily used for freight in this form, so you’ll be using it to haul freight on both the Vorarlberg and Dresden routes. However, we have included a wide range of fun formations for Scenario Planner and Free Roam that include using the IC coaches from the BR 101 pack to let you use it in a passenger configuration as well."
Quite disappointed about that Maybe an modder can make it sub into passenger runs on PC just like the 187
In real life, Vectrons, at least the ÖBB ones, are used for freight only. Passenger services with Vectrons can only be seen on international trains with leased locos (ELL for instance).
Yes, but as I have said, they are not defined as loco hauled, hence they can be certified to higher speeds...
It runs via HRR rather than RRO. Hopefully we'll see some Austrian IC coaches with the second addon and it can begin to be layered in. Until then, I reckon this route is a good test case for some of the more advanced features in Scenario planner - let's see how much of a timetable we can make. Selective reskin usage helps too.
Have to agree with MAX1319 that this is the most interesting TSW 4 route - I'm certainly a lot more excited for Voralberg's timetable with quite a few other rolling stock to complement the Talent 1. One thing I was wondering though, if the RABe 523 is potentially a playable service, then surely it would need updating for TSW 4 regarding PZB etc? If you want my opinion regarding Luzern-Sursee, despite being a shorter, one-loco route I actually really enjoy it nonetheless - as such, I'd love to see more standard gauge Swiss content for TSW.
Fernverkehr uses the DB BR247/248 dual mode vectron to pull ICE L trains and SFS rescue trains like KWG SFS Hannover Wurzburg . First is Railvolution.net for DB Fernverkehr DM Vectrons and from Siemens themselves these are for Oberstdorf and Marschbahn Sylt runs.
Vectron also use for RE50 from Frankfurt to Fulda and RB51 from Frankfurt to Wächtersbach (using MRCE Vectron + Dosto) but I m not sure who is the operator,RMV or DB Regio?
