If there is a PS Store sale that has a DLC I want in it I’ll usually buy it then. Sometimes there are lots of things that I want in a sale but I limit myself somewhat and other times the sales only have DLC I already own or things I don’t want. I usually end up buying most releases eventually. Occasionally I buy DLC on release if it is something special, or it is a loco DLC or gameplay pack for a route I love.
If it is one that I am particularly interested in, then on release. I will usually pick up a few in a sale, ones that I am curious about but don't have a massive interest in.
I buy all the routes, how soon and at what price depends how much each one peaks my interest, but even though I only know UK rail in real life I've greatly enjoyed the variety offered by the other nations. I'll usually pick up UK routes when they hit 30% off, the rest when they have a bigger discount, although I think it was Glossop that DTG did a 10% launch discount on and being a sucker for an offer I bought that day one and would likely do the same with any add-on that comes with a launch discount. With the 20% discount I'll likely pre-order TSW4 and if so then Blackpool-Preston-Ormskirk will be a day one purchase as the first routes I finished were Tees Valley and Northern Trans-Pennine so really looking forward to some older rolling stock again after probably a few too many single lever EMUs.
For ps5, on release day, on Pc and Xbox whenever there is a sale. So on PC Humble bundle saved me a wedge. I only have 5 routes on xbox due to their crappy sales process. TSW4 preordered for ps5. Both PC and Xbox will remain on TSW3 until there is a decent sale.
usually i save up money and buy either on the summer sale or winter sale (twice a year). you get so much more for your money if you just wait a bit. no point buying at full price
I've been waiting for them to incorporate something akin to Jetwash's lighting overhaul before I buy another DLC, so it's been a while. See my sig for a rough estimate.
Ironically I haven't picked up a SINGLE peace of DLC since the launch of TSW3 I belive or a little bit before that Other then the MML I just wasn't interested in the route choice and couldn't really be bothered with the the loco packs as i only care about RHTT and 37. That being said, I will be breaking that soon and buying the MML and loco packs at some point in the coming days.
It is very much what I want when I want as it is my money that goes into TSW, model railways, the house, shed and my cars so the wife has no say! Ok she does have a say but not as much as me.
Day one for most UK content and the odd German route when they’re on sale once every four years on Xbox….
I buy all the North American routes on day 1. After all, there aren't that many. UK routes I'll buy in a decent sale. The rest have to be deeply discounted. Of course, when routes are bundled, as with TSW4, that regimen goes out the window. ( Electrostar-type routes have to come with a free pork chop before I'll buy them )
UK routes *generally* on day one, although some I'm just not that interested in. Not sure with the ECML, but very tempted to get it just for the Blackpool route. As for other national routes, it's hit and miss. I got a few, but most just don't interest me.
If a dlc gets released I’m interested in, I check it out for issues and upsides (reviews on here and YouTube DTG streams and other peoples route runs mostly) then I pick it up. Class 700 was most recent pickup and I’m looking to do the same for the deluxe TSW4. though I did take a bit of a break recently from purchasing for 2 reasons; 1. I have more dlc than I probably could complete, so purchasing more makes me have less time with my current. 2. bugs on content released mostly around January i think it was.
US routes I usually preorder. UK routes with cats I will also preorder. Everything else I might get on sale.
Wow I'm actually surprised to see all the day one purchasers. Although it makes sense that many would in this forum. I guess day one purchasers is the reason for long day 2 complaint threads
Precisely and also the reason why nothing ever changes. Why would it when there's a loyal army of day 1 buyers?
Just Today I bought the TSW3 Deluxe Edition in the Xbox Sale, 8.99€ for SOS and Cajon is a bargain, otherwise TSW3 was rather meager in terms of Purchases, the only thing I bought for TSW3 was The Dispolok BR182, Bremen-Oldenburg, Mainz-Koblenz, and the Christmas DLC What I might Buy at some Point are the Class700, PeakForest and NewYork-Trenton. For the latter, I want to wait for Community feedback on the improved Timetable.
I very rarely buy new DLC. mainly because i have so much content to get through. My decision on what to play is already hard enough i don't want to make it any harder I did buy two TSW3 routes EDG and BCC, mainly because i wanted to see what routes with the new lighting and other features were like and those routes did interest me but since then nothing. I might pickup MML and the class 700 to add some more depth to SEHS at some point but most the time i'm quite happy to just wait for a sale or bundle.
If it's any steam route, on my version of the game engine, I buy at launch. Otherwise I'm influenced by discounts of 70%+, so the major summer & Chistmas sales. My preferences being for historic UK DLC, DLC using sophisticated speed control, and highly regarded DLC. 30 Jun, 2023 Train Sim World® 3: Rail Head Treatment Train Add-On Train Sim World® 3: The Holiday Express - Runaway Elf 29 Jun, 2023 Humble bundle : Train Sim World 3 Mega Haul - Train Sim World® 3: Standard Edition - Train Sim World® 3: Cajon Pass: Barstow - San Bernardino Route Add-On Train Sim World® 3: Schnellfahrstrecke Kassel - Würzburg Route Add-On Train Sim World® 3: Southeastern Highspeed: London St Pancras – Ashford Intl & Faversham Route Add-On Train Sim World®: BR Class 20 'Chopper' Loco Train Sim World®: LIRR M3 EMU Train Sim World®: Clinchfield Railroad: Elkhorn - Dante Train Sim World®: Cathcart Circle Line: Glasgow - Newton & Neilston Train Sim World® 3 Historic Journeys Bundle - Train Sim World® 3: Peak Forest Railway: Ambergate - Chinley & Buxton Route Add-On 24 June, 2023 Train Sim World 2: Southeastern High Speed: London St Pancras - Faversham Route Add-On 24 Dec, 2022 Train Sim World 2: Rush Hour - London Commuter Route Add-On 27 Jun, 2022 Train Sim World® 2: LGV Méditerranée: Marseille - Avignon Route Add-On 10 May, 2022 Train Sim World 2: Spirit of Steam: Liverpool Lime Street - Crewe Route Add-On 21 Jan, 2022 Train Sim World 2: Diesel Legends of the Great Western Add-On 22 Dec, 2021 Train Sim World®: East Coastway: Brighton - Eastbourne & Seaford Route Add-On Train Sim World®: Canadian National Oakville Subdivision: Hamilton - Oakville Route Add-On Train Sim World: Hauptstrecke Rhein-Ruhr: Duisburg - Bochum Route Add-On Train Sim World®: DB BR 182 Loco Add-On Train Sim World®: DB BR 155 Loco Add-On Train Sim World®: Tees Valley Line: Darlington – Saltburn-by-the-Sea Route Add-On Train Sim World®: BR Class 31 Loco Add-On Train Sim World®: BR Class 20 'Chopper' Loco Add-On Train Sim World®: BR Class 33 Loco Add-On Train Sim World®: West Somerset Railway Route Add-On Train Sim World®: BR Class 52 'Western' Loco Add-On 8 Jul, 2021 Train Sim World® 2 29 August 2020 Train Sim World®: BR Heavy Freight Pack Loco Add-On 22 January 2020 Train Sim World®
For German and UK routes either Day 1 or within a week or two- depends how engaged in a current route choice I'm in- if that makes any sense. I often save the North American routes for a Steam sale and purchase only if it interests me (I use Run 8 as my goto NA sim). Kind regards, Dave
When I "need" to. Good content I buy on days 1-3. Some DLCs after a patch that fixes the most glaring issues. Some DLCs when they are on sale. And some DLCs not even if they were extremely discounted as they are not my cup of tea.
I only really buy a DLC if something that I really want goes on sale. Only exception is with loco add-ons, which I tend to buy pretty close to release if I have interest in the train.
If it’s something I’m really interested in, Day One if not a preorder. Something I’m a bit more cautious about will wait for initial feedback and possibly a sale or bundle. There’s not that many routes I don’t own at present - Rapid Transit which I bought twice and refunded both times. Linke Rheinstrecke I bought and for some reason refunded which I rather regret so will buy again in the next sale. Edinburgh to Glasgow I didn’t buy as the modern era and slit box view EMU really did not appeal for a route I firmly remember from diesel days.
Usually until there is nothing to buy anymore. Im interested in the full experience with all layers & content etc. But: "running out of time" content end up on my discount purchais list.
I forgot to add, I haven’t bought any TSW3 DLC or even TSW 3 itself (Gamepass). Last DLC was HRR + BR101
I only buy what interests me, I don't really have much interest in anything outside of the UK. This is mostly because I only know the UK signalling system and dont have the time to learn anything else at the moment. Maybe I'll change this one day.
Depends on what the dlc is to be honest, normally I'll wait until there's a sale on and get them cheap and I mostly go to UK dlc since I'm from the UK. I like the European stuff the German routes mainly and the US stuff I can take it or leave it especially when it comes to the freight side of things, I don't really enjoy going 45mph with a mile long train for over 2 hours I 1) don't normally have that much time to spare for 1 service & 2) I'll get bored with it, switching and stunting on the other hand I enjoy doing with the US stuff.
Then you might be interested in the Fact that TSW3 Deluxe Edition is currently on sale. If you still want to use the TSW3 Routes in TSW4. I bought it today for only €8.99.
Never preorder anymore. Stuff I really want. About a week after launch once I’m aware of any issues. Stuff I’m not so bothered about but is in a sale and I think I might enjoy it. I will buy if I think I’ll get some value from it. Certain third parties - I won’t buy their routes anymore due to lack of communication and failure to provide any bug fixes within a reasonable time. Regardless of how much I want them. It’s been a bit of a poor year for me. Niddertalbahn has been the only route in TSW3 that I really felt that I got value from. TSW4 I will probably get soon after launch. I’m on holidays when it comes out, so no point preordering it. The Austrian and UK routes already appeal more than most of TSW3‘s routes. The one exception I might make is Just Trains route. Might get that Day 1. I‘ve really enjoyed their recent TSC stuff so I trust them to deliver decent quality and timely bug fixes.
I don’t care much for riding as a passenger but I will say the ICE 1 restaurant car is pretty epic to chill in whilst flying along at 250.
I own most of it. Tbh when I see people that are only interested in UK or whatever I kind of envy them because they probably save a lot of money… I like German, UK, US… freight, passenger… modern, retro… I avoided steam for a while but now I’m even into those as well. So yeah, I don’t even want to add up the amount I’ve spent on DLC.
As anyone who reads my posts already knows, my primary passion is yard work or any other form of switching/shunting, so if a new route's description mentions that or a new loco is designated as a switcher/shunter I'm likely to buy it immediately. I'm less likely to purchase a route that promises freight runs -- especially long ones, and not likely at all to buy a route that off3ers only passenger activity.
Depends on what the DLC is. Very intresing for me: Pre-order or Day One. That's when I bought Tharandter Rampe, Edinburgh-Glasgow, New-York-Trenton (with Amtrak Acela), Glossop Line, Class 700 and TSW 2/3 core routes. Lesser intresting for me: Waiting for a good discount. For me, that's most cases. Sometimes, I'm buying bundles even if it includes DLC that I already have as it will cost even lesser.
