The transition from TSW2 to TSW3 was a pain in the backside - I lost count of the number of times I had to install, uninstall and then reinstall DLC because TSW2 and TSW3 didn't play nice together, and TSW3 wouldn't recognise installed DLC unless I basically purged the SSD of TSW2 and all the DLC and then reinstalled all the DLC from scratch, all 40+ routes and locos of it or however many it was then. Are the devs confident that we can avoid such nonsense this time round, or will we have to clear TSW3 from the same internal drive/SSD/hard drive that TSW4 is on and then reinstall all the DLC again in order to avoid conflicts? If however you do anticipate potential issues, please could you be transparent about this and share any remedies? Better to at least know in advance and plan for it rather than run into issues when we try to set up TSW4 and then flounder around trying to figure out what to do. I should probably add that I play on XBOX series X. Thanks in advance!
I have never seen any issues like the ones you describe. TSW2 and TSW3 side-by-side on both PC and XSX.
I'm amazed to hear this. I assume you have DLC....? Did you have to install it twice, once for each version of TSW?
The DLC would have to be installed twice. They use different versions of the files, you can't use the same DLC file for both.
Yes, each DLC is installed separately, from the "Manage Game and Add-ons" menu. I have a few DLCs, see below:
I have both TSW2 and 3 installed on my XBox and haven’t had any issues at all, but I do remember some reports that people had problems. Not sure if it makes a difference but TSW2 is on the expansion pack and TSW3 and most of the DLC are on the main drive. I don’t have everything for TSW but I do have most of it. On PC everything is installed on the same drive and I never had any issues.
There can be no mix-and-match, as the DLCs installed are completely separate. Take Cathcart DLC, for example. And this is true for every DLC out there. Under TSW2, you see this: This is the DLC in XBox store: https://www.xbox.com/en-ie/games/st...commuter-glasgow-newton-neilston/9n9kp3dk3f94 Under TSW3, you see this: Different title, slightly different icon (notice the "TSW3 compatible" logo). Different XBox store DLC: https://www.xbox.com/en-ie/games/st...ton-train-sim-world-3-compatible/9p7qwl3mqv5r As far as your XBox is concerned, these are completely different DLCs. The only connection is that owning one gives you ownership of the other. Other than that, completely unrelated.
When TSW4 comes out, there will be a whole new series of DLCs with the "TSW4 compatible" logo, separate store codes, and we will need to re-download everything all over again.
MSFS 2020 take 350 go on my SSD and I don't have the "deluxe" version with +30go. And I didn't made any update since 4 months...
Makes you wonder if it would have been easier to simply update people's games instead of making them download an entire new game and DLC assets from Steam...
I know with KSP RP1 I need to copy the game directory to a new location and rename it to stop steam messing it all up. Is this something that might be an action for those seeking to run two versions?
