Hello dovetail I have a great route idea for train sim world three and that is the hasting line in East Sussex in 1959 to 1967 The route is between Tonbridge and hasting and the locos that run on hasting line are Class 4mt tank engine and tender engine School class Q1 Class 33 Hasting unit West Country class Class 205 Merchant navy class The coaches will be a selection of Mk1 coaches BR green Bullied coaches Maunsell coaches
Only one problem... any new routes will not be available for TSW3, they are only bring developed for TSW4.
This line was built with a restricted loading gauge. The West Country and Merchant Navy were too big for this line. The Schools class could work the line, they were specially designed for it. The N1 and U1 classes were specially modified versions of the N and U classes. I don't think the Q1s ever worked on this line, but I don't know if it was possible or not. A batch of class 33s were specially built for this line, they were slightly narrower than the rest of the class. A special batch of the "Thumper" DEMUs was built for this line, again they were narrower than the rest of the class. The Hastings units could work on this line, but the Hampshire units could not. Some of the tunnels were reduced to single line in 1986 so that standard sized trains could use the route.
This is correct. The specific class 33’s were the 33/2 and the Thumper units were class 201-203 built as 5 car short frame, 5 car long frame and 6 car long frame variants respectively. Some of the power cars (I believe from class 201) were later formed into the Tadpole Class 206 units for the North Downs Line between Reading and Tonbridge.
Excellent Idea overall and why not make this 1986 that way we have the Slim Jim's Tadpoles 4 VEP 4 CIG 4 CEP 4 EPBs working alongside each other.
If I remember correctly, the Hastings Line was originally built to the usual loading gauge. However an issue was found with the construction of the tunnels and extra brick linings were required which resulted in the reduced loading gauge and stock being designed specifically to fit. When the route was electrified the line through the tunnels was singled and regular stock could again be used.
