Let's get straight to the point here. Steam engines. The Jubilee The 8F The 4F The Flying Scottsman All UK so wheres the other countries steam engines? The roadmap list none coming none in the works none even being planned.(As far as i can see). There are alot of TSW4 DLC in the works but are there any US or German steam to found in any of them?
Surely it is better to start off by getting a solid foundation with steam before doing steam from other countries. It makes total sense to me as it gives them easier access (in theory, or if not cheaper) and they are more likely to have prior knowledge of what they are creating. The steam locos are tests/prototypes at the minute really so as I say until they have got a solidly working setup why complicate the production further?
First thing first, DTG should fine tune their steam physics, British steam engines considered pretty simple compared to let's say, US steam engines. DTG should proof themselves to get the simple things right/correct first. Then after that we can talk about Big Boy or something like that.
I am surprised we haven’t seen something like the Wutachtalbahn in TSW. The foundation exists in TSC and it would be a good place to start with German steam. Or maybe the W-Bahn didn’t sell that well in TSC hence the reluctance to push it out for TSW. In any event I do agree that steam physics in TSW still needs massive work to bring it up to the same level as the basic MSTS and TSC functionality, let alone the more advanced features.
I now wondering if any of DTG 3rd parties might be able to pull off a steam engine, other then just a UK one since DTG still has to figure out how to do it.
Yes. They have had some minor improvements but there is no control or even representation of coal or water levels or reserves. You need to run with dampers at no more than 25% to contain steam generation to something approaching realistic maximum. You can get away with far less cutoff (maybe 15%) than in other sims or IRL. The sounds are off above 25 MPH and sometimes you get a frantic chuffing effect even with the regulator closed. Locomotives frequently slip at high speed which would not occur in reality.
The Century of steam tech demo has better steam simulation on a oil fired steam loco to boot., then DTG has ever done in their supposed 15 or what ever years worth of ":experience". Just wait until that video gets on to you tube in a month so you all can see. its only on the pateron for now. Then I bet Sim Rails steam implementation well be better as well. Railroader steam simulation looks a little weak, but they are focusing on multiplayer ops and running your own short line. At least for release. If you are a steam fan, so much stuff is in the works with other games that you can leave DTG behind. Its been over a a year now, with 2 dlcs and a now second pay wall and steam is still broken. Stop giving this company money.
Sim rail is introducing an German steam engine soon. I have no doubt 3rd partied will make content for sim rail. There is already of a modern us freight route in the works by I think search light simulations.
When a Western Region branch line with a 45xx Prairie emerges or a 1950's iteration of Middlesborough to Whiby I will take some notice.
From what I've seen and heard of SimRail, I doesn't interest me in the slightest. To be honest, I don't have an issue with DTG's steams I just want to drive a train. And that is what I get
I’ve been enjoying the odd dabble in SimRail this week but still find myself back in TSW. I have a feeling their steam loco is not yet ready for prime time. The new EMU likely to be first. Much as I like SimRail their devs are good at promising things but delivery still awaited.
