This sub forum has been renamed General Discussion. That means when looking at the New Posts page (the easiest way to navigate the latest forum activity) it is now impossible to see which topics are TSW and which are TSC as both have General Discussion as the forum name beneath them. It was better when it was named Train Sim World Discussion as there was no ambiguity there. Can we have it renamed back to something that distinguishes it as being a TSW forum in the New Posts page? DTG JD tagging you as the man who can get this done. Cheers.
Here it is! New Updated Forum Structure And to answer something mentioned in the original post, we shouldn't need to doubly clarify that this is "Train Sim World" Discussion, because we are already in the Train Sim World forum, hence the rename to "General Discussion". I hope this helps, the aim is to improve clarity and usage of all our forum spaces
I think stujoy was referring to the notifications of replies and the like Its obvious where you are when actually on the website of course, but notifications only contain the subforum name So previously it would have said "Bob replied to your post blaa blaa in TSW general discussion", but now it will say "Bob replied to your post blaa blaa in General discussion"; I assume there are multiple "General Discussion" subforums eg. in TSC forum Probably
It also changes the page title to just General Discussion, making it more difficult to navigate my tabs in my browser.
Gotta also love having to go through 2 pages to get to live articles, when it used to be one. This just seems like change for the sake of change.
This has made it harder to see which game the threads are for in the New Posts page as only the lowest sub forum name is shown, so all the different games have General Discussion as the forum shown. It needs to be named with TSW in the lowest sub forum so the New Posts page can be used.
I appreciate the immediate feedback on the naming change, if this is something that we believe is best to revert, then we will. The sub-threading of areas for the forums was to help us reduce the total amount of areas of discussion, as with the introduction of the Editor we didn't want to exceed our existing eight categories, so we merged groups of threads to maintain this count. Again, if the feedback is that this isn't the preferred option, we can review what threads we want to have on the forums and update to what we think will be best for the community.
We have opted to go with "TSW General Discussion" based on this feedback - thank you for the rapid feedback and please continue to let us know how the changes feel
I don't like that "Announcements" is now hidden behind a click. Before you could clearly see when there was a new one.
bobbobberdd Visually the headings themselves should be bold if there are new announcements or articles, part of this sub-threading is to help collate this into one area for news from us. I appreciate the feedback on this. We also discussed the merging of both the Article discussion and the Announcements, currently we believe having those spaces separated based on whether users can engage on the threads is more usable.
My point still stands, before I could see if there was a new announcement without doing anything extra.
I agree. I would rely on the emboldened "announcments" to know if a new announcement (like RFTV schedule) was announced, but now the name remains emboldened because I never visit the subforums for each new article. I think this new change may take some getting used to... EDIT: I've just seen that it takes more clicks to get to the tech reports as well. Not sure what to think of this... I thought the PC Editor would've worked well in the Creation Centre. However, I am intrigued by the new Player Feedback section. Not sure why this couldn't be placed in the tech reports section, but I like the idea of having all the issues in one place. Also with the player feedback section in place now, what is the point of the tech reports?
Player feedback appears to be for new content only whereas the tech reports is for new players stumbling across 4 year old bugs for the first time.
I have history with this issue. I think three different Community Managers have had this message from me when they have changed the forum name to General Discussion and I immediately lose all my bearings on the forum. It’s an easy thing to miss if you never use the New Posts feature, an easy thing to spot for me because I use it every time I use the forum, and an easy fix for DTG every time it happens and I suggest they fix it. I have a 100% success rate in this regard. If only everything else was as simple
Not a fan of subforums. I rather have a longer list of ordinary forums. Also, it's not clear to me where exactly the line is between player feedback and general discussion.
Good morning everyone, here's a short update on the changes and reasonings: Announcements Channel From hearing more of your feedback, I will once again separate Announcements and DTL Article Discussion for the clarity of being able to visually see an announcement, as community comments on DTL Article threads would otherwise obscure this. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this everyone Player Feedback vs. General Discussion Our reasoning for having a dedicated Player Feedback forum is so that we can keep the feedback threads in one place, but the comments on these threads will have to be specifically leaving feedback about that certain content and nothing else. Other chatter on those threads will be moderated or removed, as this will allow us to gather feedback much more easily for our dev teams. General Discussion will still exist as it does now to debate new or existing content and generally act as an area to create your own threads, ask questions for either us at Dovetail or the community to help answer or share your thoughts on anything Train Sim World related! Troubleshooting & Guides I believe it is best to keep these forums combined as we have now. It will help assist with players coming into the forums by putting visibility on our guides and support articles before they submit a technical bug report ticket. We want to encourage players to report bugs through our Dovetail Support system, where we can respond more directly and track issues in a more structured manner. The Troubleshooting forums should be used to flag up anything urgent. As we work on this, we'll keep taking your feedback into consideration. Thank you!
DTG Alex One Thing That I Really Dislike About The Forum Config Change Is The Fact That For All Threads It Capitalises Every Word And Changes All Caps Acronyms And Similar To Lower Case After The Initial Capital Like Tsw And Psa, Do You Think It Could Be Changed?
