Hi all, I just noticed that the BR 204 (V100) now substitutes on different routes than just it's home route of MSB. This is absolutely great, as we finally get to drive this loco outside of some dockyards, improving the lacking German diesel experience.

I do however have to note that there are also some issues with this, as it also seems to substitute on services that I deem unfitting, like mainline freight on SKA and DRA. The BR 204 is simply to underpowered to get a fully loaded container train over 45 km/h. I don't think this should be removed though, as I think it doesn't show up on AI traffic, so it would be nice to keep it in for people that don't mind going that slow for an entire journey. On other routes, like RSN it does small yard transfers, which I think is a great service type for this loco, and I'd love to see more of that on future routes (or an upgraded and extended Ruhr-Sieg Nord, which could really use the same treatment as SEHS got with TSW3).

Anyways, if you didn't know about this now being a thing, you do now. I only noticed this because of the new feature that allows you to choose a train before you choose a route, which is great IMO.

Enjoy a few screenshots of the V100 on SKA and RSN.

Yea, it's been there since tsw2 earlier this year with no notice whatsoever. Dtg never mentioned it but some people started finding it worked on other routes too

Steam reviews seem to be not so good for this loco. Is it something worth getting when you have an interest in German freight?

It’s ok to drive but for those that like accuracy there are things wrong with the way it’s implemented (with the transmission I think).

I would say it’s a sale only buy. It looks nice as AI. Also opens up the docks area on Main Spessart Bahn and I think it’s still the only loco that goes down there in timetable mode. Could be wrong though, hard to keep up with all the different layers.

Same for G6 - additional sub possibilities (shunting)

All I know is that they modeled the physics and sounds completely wrong. Tsg actually looked over it before Rivet released it and said it was done incorrectly but it was near release so rivet had to just release it because it required remaking it from scratch and it's stayed like that. Half the notches don't even do anything it seems.

It's nice to have different shunters and it's not the most terrible thing out there. Definitely wait for a sale if you really want to.

Yesterday got put in the 204 with a full freight train on Munchen - Augsburg using quickdrive for a 30 minutes option. I appreciate the fact that they enabled subbing in, since this is not a shunter loco, rather a branchline general purpose diesel, but it is not equivalent of a BR155 subbing in. When I would like a short run this is the last thing I need. It can be fun on a short haul with 5-10 wagons on RSN, but not on a highspeed line.

Maybe for the quick drive we could have an enable/disable substitution option, so that it does not inherently offer us uncompletable (not enough power) or excessively long (in this case) runs.

I really enjoy driving the 204, but then I dont know how it should sound etc.

I actually love the challenge of trying to take a full heavy freight behind it on the mainline as well.

Yeah it is surprisingly enjoyable on the main track. I have rediscovered it. The G6 on HBK also does the job \o/

Is PZB working properly in BR 204?
Somehow it looks like it didn't - or maybe it never worked?

Seems to work for me but I don't think you can change from PZB U

My opinion here, it SHOULD substitute on AI traffic as well.
Think about it, if there's a train that's causing a bit of a holdup on the line. It will create great opportunities for PZB action and (much-requested) randomness in the session. The best part is that they don't even need to rewrite the dispatcher logic in order to create random delays ( so less possibility of things going nuts !!! )

If you ask me, the answer is a clear no, unfortunately. My car is a better simulation of a Br 204 than what Rivet released. That’s a bit tongue-in-cheek, but seriously, it’s horrible. If you’re only shunting at around 10-20 km/h, it’s tolerable, but anything faster than that and it’s both immediately and terribly obvious that the simulation is completely wrong and does not resemble a 204 in the slightest. If it’s a simulation you want out of TSW, then the 204 is not for you.

In reality, it's designed for two things which are light freight local and Passenger usually with a Rekowagen seen in this video from Train TV Berlin. Video Audio German language.

To fix its transmission Issue DTG needs to remake the loco as a bundle with 155 232 as a GDR Legends Pack that way it's improved. Option 2 for improvement make it's shunter version the 298

I would love to see these only 18,7 m long Rekowagons in TSW too! A while ago I asked Jasper in the Rivet forum when the BR204 will be LD compatible. Unfortunately, as they are currently busy with a new UK route, there is nothing new to report. Just a few original variants of the DR V100 summarized as a reminder. ;)

    Very nice video!
From 1:50min on you get an idea about the REAL sound of the BR 204 (ex. V100, ex. BR 110-112).
Nothing to do with Rivet´s "idle (aspirated) diesel farts".
How they could NOT explore this sound is beyond me.

...to save Rivet's honor: they made original sound recordings of a modernized V100 of the Pressnitztalbahn. More precisely it was 204 012-4. Because it has a built-in CAT engine, the sound of course sounds different than the original KVD engine in the video. It's above all the fan noise that can be clearly heard at full load and high engine speeds. Nevertheless, the performance programming was not implemented correctly, as Maik from TSG already mentioned.

You´re right, this should be considered. Still, to my ears it sounds nothing like the original. You can´t even go to Tap 6, from Tap 3 on the sound remains a bit over idle and so it goes. 4,5 and 6 don´t seem to do anything. That´s why I suspect you´ll never reach a stage when all the fans kick in.

I always defend Rivet, but this one I think they screwed up badly. And that´s a pity, because the visual model is actually quite good.

I agree and for the lower right picture there's a DR Baureihe 119 U Boat DR Baureihe 105 the East German V60 363. Basically to fix the 204 DR V100 110-112 363 coupler version DR Baureihe 111 DB BR298 with the original should be the 1990s Elbtalbahn Dresden Schöna Decin 66 km at most Aussig Usti nad Labem in former Czechoslovakia 90 km 55 mi. That way DTG/Rivet Game get the KVD Johannistal version of the 204 on the Elbtalbahn 1990s if made then use it to fix Main Spessart Bahn version which has the wrong physics package and engine sound

I also think that the only way to fix the BR204 completely would be to create a new route in which it is also used. We saw something similar with the BR363, which was integrated into DRA and DCZ and was thus created as a new version. Of course there weren't the same performance issues here, but upgrades were made again and again to other older locomotives too. Nevertheless, I think it's great that it's now included on almost all German routes as a replacement locomotive in route service and shunting. There's also the possibility of a livery pack like we saw it with the Ge4/4. But painting it in Livery Designer would be great and enough.

In the end, only Rivet can make the decision as to whether another revision makes sense. In my opinion yes, because improving a product never hurts. On the contrary, it increases the fan community and everyone enjoys it. ;)

...tried the BR204 again yesterday. What struck me is that when you're idling, the 6 speed steps work fine and you can hear the engine sound loud and powerful, like the original CAT engine in the video. Even the fan makes the unmistakable whistling noise. But if you engage a direction of travel, whether forwards or backwards, the motor is blocked from gear 3 on and the 1500hp power cannot be accessed. This is especially noticeable in DRA when you have a 1500t container train on the hook. This is the achilles heel, this is where the programming error lies. Because this locomotive was Rivets first product for TSW, that's why it should get more love. Letting it get a physics update along with LD compatibility would be killing two birds with one stone.

Hopefully Jasper reads this thread too! ;)

    Hi Sparmi,

I´ll have a go on that one. Really interesting, never tried this...
I seem to remember that Maik Goltz stated in another post something along the lines that "the gearbox logic is messed up and therefore the loco is beyond repair, unless re-designed from scratch". And in his expertise I certainly do believe.
So, doesn´t look too much food for hope to get it fixed.

    Ah, found it:https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/br-204-throttle-working-correctly.41333/#post-324813

Oh wonder, oh wonder... Now these layers are also available on the PS4. How is that possible? Without a patch note? But the NJE on PS4 probably still doesn't work properly. I can't see through here anymore...

It would be interesting as a layer on Niddertal, with n-Wagen. Now, obviously, East German locos weren't running in Hesse in 1992; but the fact is that on the NTB the Bundesbahn V 100, a diesel with similar performance, did haul n-Wagen at rush hour.

You are correct on that however in passenger service DR Baureihe 110-112 DB Baureihe 204 run with a matching Rekowagen basically the East German equivalent to a West German N-wagen. Since you used to take the Berlin Duty train you would have seen them on the sidings at Magdeburg & Potsdam the DR Rekowagen. Which means a retro pack is needed to bring 204 DR Baureihe 110-112 to NID. Although the current version can fit there but looks anachronistic since in this time period 204 uses dark red East German paint.

Hi, is there somebody who would be able to create a mod which would re-enable DB 204 as a general fregiht locomotive for German routes, please?

While possible, it wouldn't be very realistic; the 204 (ex-DR 110 ex- DR V 100) was built as a heavy shunter with local/light freight capacity. You wouldn't often see it on a main line and certainly not pulling a full-length freight.

However, it still runs as AI trains. And it adds nice variability to the services.
