It might be that on first run, the game is caching shaders; we've seen internally micropauses improve on future runs, so I hope your future runs are smoother.

After about 1-2 hours of playing I would say I found a couple of bugs, but this picture makes up for everything.

I play a lot, read all the posts here but have never posted but so far have enjoyed what I've played!

My only complaint is the Azuma AWS is a bit too quiet but just saw it's going to be fixed.

The only crash I've experienced was when i finished a service, went to free roam and then tried to delete the train I'd just driven which probably wasn't the brightest idea in the first place.

I'm eligible for early access but I'm going to wait a bit I think.... It's disappointing to hear negative comments about the HUD; problem is that everybody from small indies to megacorps feel duty bound to make changes for changes sake to justify the cost when they release new iterations of their products, even when those changes aren't needed. The HUD didn't need a 'refresh' but we apparently got one anyway., because...?

appears the solution may be a bit of a bug on Series X, it’s fine to change on PC

Personally I think the new HUD is a big improvement, just needs a bit of tweaking:
    1) Has to display a greater distance than it currently does
    2) Needs to include station stops.

You can change everything back to the original HUD. The minihud an added option.

I don't suppose the map is any better is it? I've always thought that was one area ripe for improvement.

Haven't read through the whole thread as I would like another ECML run before bed, but to answer the question I have on the whole enjoyed it very much, a few niggles, but definitely more than glad I bought it.

Not sure it counts, but D&RGW operated steam on the narrow gauge until 1968; they had diesels everywhere else.

Really liking it so far. Played the first timetable on Antelope Line and love the sounds. I switched to the old HUD due to I'm not familiar with the new one. The hepatic feature really adds realism to the game.

The haptic feature is nice for certain things, like track feedback over junctions, but is overwhelming quickly. Way too much haptic feedback when passing the cursor over the controls and notching power. I had to turn that off almost immediately.

For those discussing HUD options, there are many options in the Settings menu - under 'Accessibility'. If you preferred the old HUD, that is an option in the menu.

Have had a run on the ECML but was interrupted by a phone call so have only seen Peterborough to Retford. I didn't find the 800 to be as quiet as others have said although I probably have my volume turned up more. I have only been on one of these in diesel mode so I don't really know how accurate the sounds are but they sound similar to videos I have watched of them. The run sounds seem fine but I don't know how much different the runs sounds on an electrostar are compared to an 800. The AWS does seem a little quiet compared to the other sounds but maybe that is prototypical. The route looks very nicely modelled from what I have seen so far and I like the bride acclusions. It was a bit stuttery but I suspect that is because it is a first run. I quite like the track monitor although I think I prefer the original set up. I do wish the HUD was customisable, it is so much more in your face than TSC. Having the next station or task stuck at the top of the screen is something which has always irritated me, I wish you could move it around. I wonder if we will have a more satisfactory way of doing train despatch in a future edition, having to close the doors myself still grates me.

I haven't tried the other routes yet apart from a quick wander round on foot. The mountains on Voralberg look very good. Had a quick play in the Vectron, which seems very well modelled and sounds interesting.

So happy with it so far.

REALLY hoping to see station stops and/or objective markers placed on the visual HUD at the top right as the barber shop countdown just isn't enough time to stop smoothly when traveling faster than 120+mph

Well, must admit I'm enjoying it so far. Surprised myself by starting out with a full Azuma run on ECML I chose a night service to check out the lighting since the streamers chose not to yesterday.**

    1. I like the " new " HUD, just takes a bit of getting used to.

    2. Much as I dislike " joystick " locos, I found the 801 cab kinda fun, lots of buttons to press etc.

    3. The train is a bit on the quiet side, including the AWS/TPWS warnings and there's not much track noise.

    4. **I was actually pleasantly surprised at the night lighting. It's not bad, especially compared to some recent UK routes. Why was DTG so reticent about showing it on the stream yesterday? They didn't need to be.

    5. I also think the UI is improved a bit, especially the completion report screen.

Overall, a positive experience so far. Now for AVL.

Well had a quick go at the Azuma, Vectron and F125.

The Azuma could be really nice but it absolutely has to get better sounds. Sorry guys but this needs to be sorted out.

Vectron is an electrical beast, as expected. Very good.

F125. Well I'm guessing the real locos are fairly quiet and with only 4 coaches there isn't much demand for power to get and keep moving. Nice though.

Liking the new HUD but as others have stated, to turn off the lollipop the objective distance needs to be shown on the top left, somehow and a display of the actual speed.

However the icing on the cake and sorry but I have to shout this one... WE FINALLY GOT REVERB AND RUMBLE GOING UNDER AND OVER STRUCTURES!! Three cheers on that one DTG Matt you kept that one nicely up your sleeve. Any chance this can be rolled out to older routes, in time?

Yeah only played one timetable run so far (Peterborough-Newark Northgate) and it was quite good. The scenery is well done though that section overall is pretty dull tbh. Lighting seems to be slightly improved, maybe.

The 801 is a nice easy drive and the sounds weren't as quiet as i feared from the streams. As far as accuracy i'll defer to others.

Looking forward to full release to drive the 158, as i personally find high speed runs to be pretty boring.

Really like the haptic feedback (after tweaking the levels).

You know I thought I heard the sound and pitch change in the tunnels and underpasses, but I guess I didn't quite believe it!!

    +1 hurrah from me then.

No the levels seem just right. Used to the noisy GM's I guess.

Got to say so far seems to be running smoother than TSW3. Proof will be putting troublesome routes like BML in there. I certainly think it's worth it especially if you can still get the discounted price. The only weak point so far, as I say, is the Azuma sound though obviously only dipped my toe in the water, not even looked at the ECML proper (801 was in TC), Vorarlberg or FS.

Enjoying TSW4, graphics looking very nice in 4K ultra running on Jetwash’s high setting engine.ini file.
Sticking with the old HUD + track monitor as most loco speedometers tend to be uncomfortably small for me to read.
ECML better than I anticipated but 801 too quiet in the cab, even for warnings.
    Otherwise very happy so far!

So what can I say. Not because i'm an Ambassador but because currently in my personal life some know and some don't but my world fell apart a few weeks ago. Much to the point where now I am losing my house as well. but I loaded up TSW and decided to do one last stream for the time being. I ran an early morning 66 freight service to Doncaster (about an hour's run) then did the Vectron tutorial and yeah messed that up but passed it lol. Did a Vectron run from Riesa to Dresden, Then had an idea (I was supposed to be finishing at 8pm (haven't had anything to eat since 2pm this afternoon) its now 2153 lol. What if I you can drive the two locos in the bay at Dresden, they don't move. So I spawned at Dresden and went into one of the locos and it did what I wanted it to do. Although I spadded at the end of the platform but hey ho. I then had another stupid idea. I spawned a 323 at Doncaster down through line. Decided to drive it to Newark. 30+ miles later I arrived at Newark and went sod it lets goto Peterborough. So set a path to Nene Carriage shed number 8 road. 42 miles later and a really happy me we arrived at our final destination. Although before I left I saved the game. So I could go back and do another full line run in the 323 back to Doncaster. The only downside to this was the failure to apply the gained AP to my level. Not sure if there is away it will apply them when you leave Free Roam mode.

I have to say Free Roam in Service mode is a GAME CHANGER. Think of all the stuff you can do in any of the other routes you own. Finally running a Coal train into the power station on Ruhr Sieg Nord (and hopefully emptying it) before running it up to the yard and possibly running round and back to Hagen. Running an intermodal from Finnentrop - Hagen then running the same Intermodal service from Hagen to the other destination on Rhein Ruhr Osten in Service mode. The possibilities are endless.

So just wait until Formation designer is released......

For me personally I think this is the best TSW 4 yet. It'd tinged with sadness as this was more than likely my last stream for a few months whilst I concentrate on trying to get a new house etc etc.

Edit didnt know my Hagen from my Aschaffenburgs lol

Been playing Antelope on series x.

Track side it’s looking much better with more details and better distance graphics.

    there’s still issues though.

Im getting frame drops and stuttering that seem to ease if I toggle off volumetric fog.

shadow pop in is still a big issue especially in cars on the highway, shadows only appear when close making the other vehicles that are further away seem flat.

I had shadows crossing the tracks on bridges when cars were going over, so you get these moving black rectangles.

I had the widows open on the train but it seemed very quiet almost like there was no engine but I’m not sure how correct that is for the train.

DTG nailed the ECML. Haven’t played voralberg or us route yet as I am infatuated with the ECML. I haven’t had this sort of infatuation since BML in TSW2

Yes, but on Xbox Series X, you cannot use ctrl F4 to take away the circular HUD in the right-bottom corner anymore, for some reason. It would be really great if this could be looked into.

In TSW3 I would only leave on the upper-left bit of the HUD, containing just the time, scheduled stopping time and distance to the stopping point, but that’s not possible at the moment.

What are my opinions so far?

I have done one scenario on the Antelope Valley Line and the addition of the dramatic music to the scenaio was freaking insane, I was getting hyped up for that alone

The Vorarlberg background setting looks freaking insane as well, absolutely love the way that they captured the Styrian Mountains and the fog rolling off of them as well

As for the ECML, there's a fence down there, you wanna smack a ball over it? First of all, thanks for not letting slip there were scenarios to play with the Flying Scotsman, that was always going to be the first one we did on the channel and secondly, you captured a masterpiece

Now roll on the 26th when I can get the rest of my routes

The 158 and HST have layers and some can be driven. Not sure how many mind.

I'm also looking at the Class 47 that never moves at Huddersfield on NTP for free roam mode. Its going for a trip Tuesday evening.

Antelope Valley really is a lovely route, but I notice the Metrolink train does not sit correctly on the rails, it's sort of sunk in a couple of inches (noticed this on the stream too). A shame as otherwise the train is a work of art. Is this on the fix list?

DenisJura Your problem is caused by Windows Security blocking TSW4 from accessing a protected area (I get this problem every time there's a new version of TSW, until I remember to change settings :)). You need to go into Windows Settings -> Windows Security -> Virus & threat protection -> Protection history, where you should find a recent entry for "Protected folder access blocked". Click on the down arrow next to the entry and you can allow TSW to bypass these controls. Hope this helps!

I've noticed on Antelope Valley there's a lot more traffic on the road. That makes it more realistic. This was during the day time so I'm wonder if late night has less traffic. Can anyone confirm?

    First impressions from my side...

the new menu looks good...besides that I´ve only tried the ECML, because it´s the one, I´m least interested in and I wanted it "out of the way". The scenery looks nice! Class 801 looks fine, but has no speed control like in TS Classic (I think others have mentioned this)... I just kept thinking: "I could fire up TS Classic and drive from Kings Cross to Edinburgh on the ATS merge". So yeah, if you don´t own TS Classic, I get the appeal. But I´ll stick with the full lengh route on TSC rather than driving a little snippet in TSW 4.
I´m looking forward to trying out all the other new stuff. Free Roam, Editor and all that is great for the future, but not really relevant for me until all my older DLC gets ported over in a couple of days. That´s when the real fun starts!
Up until then I will explore the "vanilla content" and included scenarios.

As an old legacy TS Classic player, I get really frustrated about mainly getting routes, we have in TSC. Besides Antelope Line I have everything on the "old game"... I know TSW players can´t relate to this, but I hope we get to see some fresh stuff in the future. I really enjoy the content "exclusive" to TSW like Peak Forest or Niddertalbahn.

You do realize that to get the full ecml in tsc, you had to first buy each individual section of the route and buy a subscription to ats to buy it i believe. It never came as one package. Expecting tsw to have the full package in one go is unrealistic.

Lots of popular routes that people have requested exist in tsc. If dtg only created new routes not in tsc, content would be extremely limited. Tsc has over a decade of content and lots of 3rd parties making routes. There wouldn't be any freight routes. Most uk and German routes wouldn't exist. We also wouldn't get the ecml or the wcml or the nec. We wouldn't get any new York routes. So while you want only the new routes, it severely limits content. Along with not having licenses

Brighton mainline in tsw has a timetable with 4800+ services. Tsc doesn't even have a timetable.

Have only played Antelope Valley, but I'm really enjoying it. I did the blockbuster scenario and just loved it. I will say though, that I saved the game before the final run thinking I would get the timing of events down and then reload to take pictures. But when I reloaded none of the movie assets loaded in. So it was just the train and the markers. Maybe that was just my save file? I don't know. The line and locos look great. Really happy with the purchase so far.

The negative I have is a huge bummer for me. I love taking pics. I was super excited DTG finally put in a real photomode. The only problem I'm having is it makes no sense to me. The sliders are percentages. How can a focal point be a percent? It's measured in distance, like feet or meters. Same can be said about the depth of field slider. At 0% the whole screen is blurry, but at 100% it's not. What does the percentage mean in this case? Trying to take a wide shot, where I wanted to get the background with low poly buildings to be out of focus is impossible for me. Every setting I move feels like it does nothing. So I ended up just giving up. Love that they put photomode in, but it needs A LOT of work, or at least descriptions of the sliders.

First impressions of ECML (only played that so far):
TMS and PIS both very buggy. Next station on the TMS is broken. PIS clocks sub 0 with a space.
The route generally is quite boring and there are some route building errors such as floating catenary.
    801 gangways are a disappointment.
Music is far too loud in scenarios.
801 speedo very hard bordering impossible to read with the glare.
New catenary looks pretty bad IMHO.

You can turn down the music in scenarios by going to audio then music in settings.
