Ran an 801 in scenario planner and free roam on antelope valley, and the train accelerates extremely quick, didn’t struggle to get it to 100mph at all. A bit shocking since the claim was you couldn’t get the 801 past 5mph???
Yea. I found that surprising as well. But shh. Don't tell the Dev team. We've basically got a fake class 800 rn!
The 5 mph was most likely a joke or snide remark in some respects it depends which variant you drive as the bigger of the 2 is equipped with more cars therefore more engines at 1 engine per so many cars it’s nice that DTG implemented this engine feature and for me it adds extra immersion in ecml As it’s nice flying at high speed but then diesel engine opportunity for a more sedate paced drive which lends itself to taking in scenery in more chilled fashion
The 5mph reference may have in relation to apart from emergencies it’s used in depots, which often have a 5mph speed restriction.
I can't work out free roam how do I spawn a train on it when I click free roam it just comes up where I want to go and the time
You will spawn in on foot and there will be no trains around you in the free roam mode. Once you spawn in, you press tab (or left d-pad) and then you can spawn a loco in.
On diesel on flat and level track the /2s you are looking at about 60 tops and the /1s 75 to 80. This is not a quick process though.
Something is funky with the sim setup on the 801, merely having the pantograph up (without being in electric mode), will give the diesel mode a huge boost in speed.
What I don't understand is why DTG didn't make the 800 instead of the 801 as they have diesel sounds. They have diesel physics. They have the buttons models. So why not make the 800?
They wanted to make the 800 but Lner couldn't guarantee which train they could provide dtg for their reference trip and when dtg arrived at the depot, an 801 turned up. Yes it is true that the 800's and 801's are very similar but there are some behind the scenes differences that they wouldn't be able to get reference for unless Lner were able to provide an actual 800, that's why dtg made the 801, because it is what they had reference for.
Physics, sounds and buttons is not enough to make a train. You also need photo references and trips to the actual train dtg did not have access to. So only the 801 was available
There are a few (apparently) minor differences, like under carriage equipment, exhausts and the likes that are unique to the 800, that do not appear on the 01, so mainly... that's the reason.
Yea. As bravo six said, it's more for research for the modelling team as there is different undercarriage stuff that needs modeled.
