The loco DLCs that came before TSW3 need their home routes to work. This is how those DLCs were designed. It happens that for unknown reasons sometimes these loco DLCs can be used as layers in other routes without owning the home route. DTG knows it happens, and they do not care that you use the loco DLC without buying the home route (they will not go after you for doing it or try to make it stop working on purpose) BUT this is unsupported behavior. So, if you buy one of those loco DLCs without the home route and it doesn't work you are on your own.
Thanks everyone above for the responses. I’ll spend a bit more time on the German route I have and if the Dresden route is good (which most people say it is) I will maybe take a chance on the loco DLC. Thank you all
Drives me crazy sometimes having all routes installed, seeing multiples of the same train and not knowing which version to select Wish the manager would see that you have ALL routes and trains installed and actually remove the old versions of the trains from the list and only have the up-to-date working ones.
It also fills up St Pancras with East Midlands class 43s. Tbh I’m also not sure what the current issues people are having with the route itself are either. I find it plays pretty good. The 158 is great. I haven’t had many issues, no worse than any other TSW route.
Me? None! I got most of the pre-TSW3 DLCs. Should I pay actually a bit more than the entire TSW4 for some kind of buggy unfinished MML featuring HST I already have only to drive it 25 miles on MML and a few layer services? Thanks, but no thanks. LIRR is a grear route IRL, but in-game it is very outdated, yet they charge you for it full price of any other TSW2 DLC. For me, LIRR would have to be massively updated or discounted to almost nothing (if left in current state) in order for me to even consider buying it.
yea I get it. At least on steam you have the upcoming autumn sale starting Nov21st. Xbox on the other hand takes an act of god to get a good sale there.
I agree here but at the same time, I think I am slightly OCD or have FOMO because if I am playing a route and know I am seeing less AI than I could with extra layers, it bothers me. IE when the new Trenton timetable comes out, and if I didn't have LIRR, it would bug me that I don't see the AI trains in Penn even though I can't drive them anyway. Another example is the BR187... even when it was pretty broken, and I didn't want to drive it, I still bought it just so it would add more variety to the AI services on the German routes. Now they've somewhat fixed it so I drive it but for a few months I paid just to have it as AI. Which probably makes DTG some money. Some people will buy routes even just to get the AI layers and complete other routes, not to play the route itself. LIRR is not one I would generally be playing in 2023 because if the timetable/signalling.
Even though i still cannot play Skyhook's MML route on PS4 without it either triggering unwarranted AWS stops, or crashing altogether on approach to Nottingham.. or both.. i will download this route onto tsw4, just so i can have the layers on ECML between Peterborough and Grantham (plus hopefully some Class 158 AI at Grantham, Newark and possibly Doncaster if they are represented too) i kinda wish Class 158 was available without the MML route, as for me on ps4 it's the only route that has been a big dissapointment for me so far. I'm still hoping it will be fixed sometime, if i could drive a HST from Leicester to Nottingham without AWS triggers and a total game crash, i'd be relatively happy with that!
I'll probably buy the Tees-Valley-Line and the Heavy-Freight-Pack for Blackpool - Ormskirk and the Nidddertalbahn for Vorarlberg.
I have a few layers questions about TSW4 layers: Per the DTG gameplay guide: For AVL the AC4400CW from Cane Creek layers- does this bring any freight rolling stock or just the loco? For ECML the Green Class 47 from West Somerset layers- is this just a railtour or can you use the 47 in other ways? For Vorarlberg- the DB BR 182 loco DLC layers- is this just a loco or does it bring any wagons? Is the Luzern-Sursee layer just AI? For NY-Trenton- I have LIRR and Harlem- does that get me the LIRR layers or do i also need the M3 DLC? Don't really want to buy all of these so i'm trying to see what's most substantial. Thanks!! Only a couple hours to go now (or at least to start downloading)- woohoo!
For the MRCE BR 182 layer you still need to have HRR and DB BR 101 installed. You get 4 passenger services where you pull the IC Waggons with the 182
Good questions Harlem won’t do anything for NJT since they don’t overlap anywhere. LIRR + LIRR M3 will give you more AI services crossing that Sunnyside, Queens area and pulling into Penn (but not crossing over to the jersey side) And as far as I know, green class 47 is going to give only railtours but someone can correct me if I’m wrong.
Seems Ai only, see below for all. ECML Normal Timetable PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 will get access to all layers: HST (MML, static and playable) Class 700 (AI and playable) Class 158 (AI and playable) Flying Scotsman (AI and playable) Class 66 (AI and playable) SoS (AI) RHTT (playable and AI) Glossop Line (AI) TVL (AI) NTP (AI) WSR (AI) GWE (AI) SEHS (AI layers) - some will be in Doncaster Works as static AI Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 will get: HST (MML, playable and AI) Flying Scotsman (playable and AI) Class 66 (playable and AI) GWE (playable and AI) NTP (AI) SoS (AI) Glossop Line (AI) RHTT (AI) SEHS (AI) TVL (AI) WSR (AI) Reduced Timetable PC, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will get access to all layers: Flying Scotsman (playable, AI) Class 66 (playable, AI) Xbox One, Xbox Series S and PlayStation 4 will have the same as the above, however, will see a slightly reduced amount of static stock.
"For NY-Trenton- I have LIRR and Harlem- does that get me the LIRR layers or do i also need the M3 DLC?" So this one one Joe mentioned all you need is the LIRR for the M7 AI to activate the LIRR. the M3 DLC all it adds is variety which he mentioned was around 25%. haveng the M3 would not add more AI traffic for the LIRR just variety.
None specifically, because there's no one place you can go and see a list of all the layers/interactions between different DLC's. If you are late to the party (i.e. you miss the build up and day one) it seems mad to me that you can't go somewhere and put in "I have this DLC, what works with it?" With DTG's desire to make money it seems a missed opportunity not to market to new customers with "Hey you own X. Did you know you can add to it by buying Y and Z?" I've said this before but an interactive web page where you can tick DLC you own and see what else can work with it would seem like marketing 101 to me
