With all the new posts popping up i'm beginning to get lost all the information we need is getting mixed up among all the different posts that everyone is making and its hard to keep up. Because of a traumatic brain injury i had in 2001 i have learning difficulties so gonna wait around till a tutorial pops up. ATM I'm learning unreal engine 5.3 and creating a platform game so its not like unreal is too difficult for me, so i'm going to carry on with that for a while. its been great meeting you all and wish you all the best with your current projects
If I fire up the editor at all tomorrow Dave, it will be to do some basic track laying, that's all. Frankly the last couple of days trying to make sense of this has left my head spinning. Hopefully some of the useful information that has been posted can be collated into one comprehensive thread or even form the start of a wiki. One of the problems I think is there is so much stuff in there that isn't really relevant to the basics of setting up a route, laying a bit of track, plonking down some buildings and maybe painting a few terrain textures. Needs a much better front end on it, something like Trainz Surveyor which I can get great results from barely thinking about it. Think this experience has actually encouraged me to have another crack at the DRS editor, I can get my head around nodes far easier than all this UE glamour. And from a response the author put to a question of mine on the DRS Facebook site, it looks as if the editor is not far off getting real world and SRTM import. Craven Arms to Llanelli with a Class 120 DMU beckons!
Things would be a lot easier if I could add things like texture plugins from unreal marketplace, but then licences and fees come into play and with the software DTG use for this editor already is very pricey without getting bogged down with more, thats my reason for never complaining about the price for DLC's or upgrades. I think what i find frustrating is for just under £250 I could buy a terrain creator and track asset pack from the marketplace and create the route I wanted in UE 5.3. I'm sure some tutorial will come along in the near future, this editor will surely make some youtuber youtube famous if they get a tutorial out there. The DTG team are fantastic and will come up with something and as they have a lot of things to work on along with all the customer support somehow they'll manage just gotta have faith and trust in them.
