Today was all about getting a basic understanding of signals. Thanks for everyone's participation on the forum. There's a lot of great information here already.

Enter Network Edit Mode and select the "Attach linkable objects to the track" tool. It's the 10th one from the top.

In the Content Browser, browse to the DLC that contains the signal you wish to add. Signals are normally stored in the /RailNetwork/Signals folder of a DLC. Once you're in that folder, move on to the next step.

You should see at least one 'signal model' and 'signal view'. The model is the programming behind the signal's behavior. The view is the programming behind the signal's appearance.

Click and drag a signal view blueprint into your route. Upon releasing the left mouse button, the signal's link will appear when you hover over a track section. Clicking again will place the signal link. To change the direction of the signal link, press and hold LEFT SHIFT.

Upon left clicking the signal view, several details about it will appear in the "Details" pane on the right hand side of the editor. The "Default" section of the Details pane allows you to adjust the signal's head and post configuration, among other things. The "Network Signal Component" section has a button called 'Edit Property' that allows you to adjust other configuration settings such as the Routing Table.

When you have your signals placed in their intended positions, the next step is to perform a Track Section Fill. While still in the Network Edit Mode, select the "Manage track sections" tool. It's the 4th one from the bottom.

Click the "Fill" button at the top of the tool's options. The track sections and signal routing tables will now generate.

Go back into the Routing Table of one of your placed signals. When you filled the track sections, all possible routes to the next signal were automatically created in the routing table. You can dig into each route and adjust settings such as track speeds via that path. You can also entirely disable a signal route so the dispatcher cannot use it to path trains.
