I gave up on importing lidar and height map data because no matter what I follow I can't get my data from Conisbrough to Swinton (South Yorkshire) lidar or heightmap to work, the .hgt files just bring up a flat landscape :( So I decided to create my own landscape but I hit a big problem with it. Every time I select to use a different brush type (changing from default circle brush) my editor crashes. Does anyone else have this problem or know if its a know bug problem?

Haven’t got that far though TBH it’s likely it will all get uninstalled from the development laptop today and I will go back to Trainz or TSC where this kind of stuff is easy and second nature. DRS getting its terrain etc import in the hopefully not too distant future also awaited eagerly.

Spending time fruitlessly in the editor also puts me off playing the main game which I still enjoy very much.

Kudos to those who have built routes with this tool, but if DTG were hoping for a mass influx of community made routes they need to refine it so it’s closer to the tools we use in the other sims.

I think it was the community hoping that, the DTG devs know exactly what kind of hard work it is. I hope those "DTG is just lazy" posters will now realize how wrong they are.

It has certainly given me a new respect for what has been achieved, when I look at routes like DRA or any of the others really my only thought is how did they achieve those results in this confusing mess of an editor.

I don’t want to give up on it but I just fear the further we delve the more frustrations and challenges await. As I said in another thread, the time I spent since Tuesday basically getting nowhere, I could have had track laid and started on scenery in a small route in Trainz or TSC.

It really is a high end tool which needs the kind of focused undistracted attention you simply cannot give doing an hour or two on the dining table replete with “domestic” distractions.

I'd say: Take a break and wait for some official tutorials which should come this months. I'm sure you're smart enough to use the editor more effecient in the future :)

Pretty much what I’m thinking. I don’t normally want to piggyback on others and in the case of MSTS was at the front of those starting to use the route editor.

Bearing in mind this is a beta, hopefully we will see some streamlining and UI changes to make things easier. I’m not expecting Trainz Surveyor level of easy interface and of course we tend to forget real world terrain in Trainz is only possible because of the external Transdem programme. Perhaps some enterprising soul will write some utilities to do similar with the TSW4 editor, set everything up so you can get straight in and lay track on your terraformed and overlaid map. TSC also had the excellent RW Tools created by Mike Simpson which greatly simplified some of the processes that the original Kuju programmers, perpetuated through its passage into DTG hands buried away. Mike of course has now retired from that sort of thing so little hope there.

Well maybe I’ll keep the editor ticking over rather than abandon it altogether…

Keep telling myself that it’s still very early days although I’ve also been frustrated trying to do what should be simple basic things in the editor.
I decided the only way to remain sane is to leave it until the official tutorials begin and then to try and follow every one of them to the letter.

What i'm really hoping to achieve is my small fictional route idea, and have a fully functioning service mode going on it. TSC always made everything much easier, the problem there however, is you can't build a full service mode in that game, so I was never really able to build a 24 hour timetable with my route ideas. I would really love to be able to do the same thing here.

I agree Jack. So much I would like to do but seems futile at the moment and, as I said, starts to impinge on enjoyment of the main game later in the day.

Only simple thing in modern game engines is to close the editor, and not even that is often a pleasure to do :D

Considering that DTG has said this is a heavily customized version of the Unreal editor, I can only imagine what using the real one is like.

No, you must use the TSW tools to create landscapes otherwise it wont be done in our world format.

Yep hang fire for the tutorial. Now that it's been explained to me, I can't see any way you can stumble on the correct method through experimentation at all to be honest.

i'm using 5.3 creating a platform minigame and its a headache but progressing well with it. once you go through some tutorials it makes it a lot easier I started out with this one Unreal Engine 5 C++ Developer: Learn C++ & Make Video Games | Udemy. once i got to the c++ section I got lost and diverted to other stuff on youtube
