This thread is to see what people would do on what route if multiplayer was a thing in TSW4! Personally I'd love to see someone make a roleplay community for the West Somerset Railway and run proper timetables with heritage trains and coaches!
The trouble with multiplayer is you would probably get some idiot park a train across a signal at Breman causing all the trains coming from Oldenburg to sit and queue outside the station...
Would need a lot of moderation. There would also need to be an option to instantly kick people who are obviously only there to cause trouble (possibly denying them the right to multiplayer), as well as an option to kick inactive people (ie those who will most likely block trains from moving then do nothing). Those three are a MUST if multiplayer is ever introduced.
Or even better is having private session, it’s the case on other games and it works fine. I wonder if DTG will invest on servers, and gives us crossplay feature.
I honestly would not want a public multiplayer. Just let me open up a session to invite my friends. Have one be the signaller, others drive the trains or work as conductors
It could solve the passenger problems. There could be a community dedicated to being a passenger in the greater TSW multiplayer experience.
I think the only way a multiplayer mode would ever work in this game, is if it’s a driver+guard/conductor co-op. Just you and one other person in a private session. One person drivers, the other does tasks similar to the “on guard” scenario. Seems relatively simple to implement. This would also work as a split-screen local multiplayer mode as well, for both consoles and PC. So many games seem to leave out local multiplayer from the pc versions unfortunately.
yup, a vote to kick option would be needed. it’ll be extremely easy for one person to completely ruin an entire timetable.
In my opinion, multiplayer would only work if it was a closed session / invite only. As others have said, there are far too many trolls out there who would ruin it for other players, even if ‘correctly’ moderated.
i think if there was a multiplayer mode on tsw4 it would make the game 10x better and that you would have to follow the signals properly if there was someone ahead of you and that you would have to select your train before leaving the main menu and the fact that tsw4 is almost compatible with multiplayer i think that it would be a great thing to see in the game and that it would give players more of an idea of how to follow signals properly and how to drive safely
They can't just add multiplayer to tsw4. It needs to be built with mp in mind which means having to start from scratch
As others have said before, multiplayer cant just be added. You need to design the game for it from the start. That said, I played Simrail in multiplayer many hours and I only found someone trolling the network once. I reported him using the in-game menu and never saw him again. I think people is way too pessimistic about what would happen if the next TSW had multiplayer.
Perhaps multiplayer could work if it was locally hosted (like GTA) and invite only. I don't see a world in which either: 1. Dovetail pays for server upkeep or 2. Public multiplayer is fun.
Meh, SimRail has more civilised players than TSW, this very forum is proof of that. I wouldn't want to play *any* game with the majority of the users in this forum.
